</excerpt>

The reforms suggested in the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday for discussion and passage by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, place India ahead of many Western, European, and even Muslim-majority countries in terms of Waqf management, offering a specialized framework designed to reflect contemporary values of accountability and inclusivity.

The new framework, which is being challenged by the opposition parties—understandably driven by their political compulsions—aims to improve the efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity of Waqf management, while also aligning it with modern governance standards.
Significantly, many of the ‘liberal’ Western countries that have criticized India on grounds of ‘plurality’ and ‘secularity’ do not have any specific laws to govern Waqf properties.
Similarly in Asian countries where the Muslim population is substantial, the laws that govern the Waft properties are archaic and serve no beneficial purpose for the community as a whole.
As per the bill, which has been made public, it incorporates 25 recommendations made by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and brings reforms, especially in terms of gender equality, sectarian inclusivity, and government oversight. An analysis of the bill, and a comparison to similar laws governing Waqf in Western and European countries, as well as Malaysia, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, all of which have substantial Muslim populations, weakens the opposition’s claims that the bill is anti-Muslim.
Speaking in the parliament Rijiju, pointed out that the most ‘draconian’ provision in the previous Act was Section 40, under which the Waqf Board could declare any land Waqf property. The said provision has been removed in the new bill which is likely to be passed in both the houses given the majority enjoyed by the government. Another contentious rule, ‘waqf by user’ under which a property is considered as a waqf property because it is being used for a long time for religious or charitable purposes, even without formal documentation, has been abolished.
In Western and European countries, Waqf properties are primarily regulated under the general framework of charity law or trust law, which do not have provisions specifically targeting the unique governance needs of Waqf assets and there are no dedicated Waqf Boards or specific laws for Waqf management.
Instead, Waqf properties are usually treated as part of Islamic charitable organizations or Islamic foundations, governed by general legal structures designed for all charitable activities.
In the United Kingdom ( where Muslim population: 4.4%), Waqf properties are managed under the oversight of the Charity Commission, a body that regulates charitable organizations. There is no specific legislation for Waqf properties; they are simply categorized as charitable assets and managed according to the general framework provided by the Charity Act 2011.

The Charity Commission ensures that these organizations adhere to laws regarding transparency, accountability, and governance, but there is no dedicated body for Waqf properties alone, and the issue of ‘gender equality’ or ‘sectarian representation’, which is mentioned in the Indian law, does not come under the specific purview of charity law.
No separate benefits are given by the charity commission to these bodies on the ground of religion.
Similarly, in the United States (Muslim population: 1.1%), Waqf properties are managed through Islamic charitable organizations, and their management is governed by state-specific trust laws and federal charity regulations, including the IRS tax code which is known for its stringent rules and regulations.
In the U.S., like in the UK, these properties are treated like any other charitable asset, subject to tax-exempt status regulations and general charitable governance. There is no specialized regulatory framework for Waqf, and governance is usually handled at the level of the individual charitable organization.
In France too (Muslim population: 8.8%), Waqf properties are incorporated within the broader scope of Islamic charities, which are regulated by general charity laws that govern all religious and non-profit organizations, and there is no specific framework for Waqf properties.

In Germany (Muslim population: 5.0%) and Canada (Muslim population: 3.2%), the situation is similar, with Islamic charitable organizations managing Waqf properties under the broader charity law framework.
In Germany, charitable foundations or organizations manage Waqf assets, and governance falls under the oversight of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, which ensures compliance with the German Civil Code (Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch, BGB), but there is no specialized body for Waqf management, and there are no specific provisions for gender equality or sectarian representation in the administration of Waqf.
In contrast to these Western and European countries, India’s Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024 is a dedicated piece of legislation that provides specific rules and frameworks for Waqf management.
The Bill empowers the Central Government to create rules regarding Waqf registration, auditing, and accounts, ensuring a high level of transparency and accountability in the handling of Waqf properties.
Additionally, the Indian Waqf Amendment Bill has introduced gender equality provisions. The law mandates the representation of at least two Muslim women on both the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards, a measure aimed at empowering women in the governance of Waqf assets.
Furthermore, the Bill ensures that female inheritance rights to Waqf properties cannot be denied. This contrasts sharply with Western systems, where gender representation is not mandated in the management of Islamic charitable organizations.

Another significant feature of the Indian law is its commitment to sectarian inclusivity. The law mandates that representatives from various Muslim sects—Sunni, Shia, Bohra, Agakhani, and others—be included in the State Waqf Boards, ensuring that all Muslim communities are represented in the decision-making process. This provision is a significant departure from the Western countries, where sectarian representation is not required.
The Indian bill also introduces an appeal process where decisions made by Waqf tribunals can be challenged in the High Court within 90 days. This formal legal recourse ensures that there is judicial oversight of Waqf-related matters, providing a mechanism for addressing grievances.
In contrast, in the West, while charity laws offer legal recourse for disputes, there is no specialized tribunal system for Waqf, and cases related to Waqf are handled under broader trust law or charity law frameworks, which lack the the focus on Islamic endowments.
In Malaysia (Muslim population: 61.3%), the management of Waqf properties is handled by a specialized body called the State Islamic Religious Councils (SIRCs). These councils are empowered by the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) Act 1993 and other state-specific legislation to oversee the management and administration of Waqf assets.
Unlike India’s new law, which mandates gender representation and sectarian inclusivity, Malaysia’s system places a significant emphasis on the State’s role in managing Waqf properties. While the SIRCs play a crucial role in Waqf management, they are not as inclusive in terms of gender or sectarian diversity as the Indian system.
An analysis of the law shows that Malaysia’s approach is more centralized, with the government having significant control over the administration of Waqf properties, and the inclusion of women or minority sects is not a central feature of the governance system.

In Indonesia (Muslim population: 87.2%), the Waqf Board of Indonesia (BWI) is tasked with overseeing Waqf properties. Established under Law No. 41/2004 on Waqf, the BWI is responsible for the registration, monitoring, and supervision of Waqf properties across the country.
While Indonesia has a more centralized system for Waqf management than some other countries, it does not have the same gender-focused provisions as India’s law.
The BWI focuses more on the legal administration and utilization of Waqf assets, often aimed at increasing the economic productivity of Waqf properties, but gender inclusivity and sectarian representation are not specifically emphasized in the law.

In Sri Lanka (Muslim population: 9.7%), the Waqf laws are governed under the Waqf Act, No. 51 of 1955, which establishes the Sri Lanka Waqf Board. Similar to Malaysia and Indonesia, Sri Lanka’s system of Waqf governance is largely state-controlled.
The Sri Lankan Waqf system is less inclusive than India’s in terms of gender equality and sectarian representation. The Sri Lanka Waqf Board primarily focuses on the legal registration and management of Waqf properties, without specific mandates for gender representation or inclusivity of Muslim sects in its governance structure.
In terms of government oversight, India’s centralized control over Waqf registration and the audit process is more comprehensive than the systems in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, where state governments typically have greater discretion in managing Waqf properties, without the same level of detailed centralized regulation and oversight seen in the Indian bill.

Apart from being a progressive law that promotes gender inclusion and sectarian diversity, it is also designed to ensure that transparency and accountability are maintained at every level of governance, which is a feature that is not as robust in the Waqf management systems of these countries.

In addition, the threat of future pandemics remains a global concern, and countries are taking proactive steps to strengthen their healthcare systems and improve pandemic preparedness.

One of the major initiatives this year is the push for equitable access to vaccines and treatments, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the disparities in global health, and efforts are being made to ensure that vaccines, medical supplies, and treatments are accessible to all, regardless of geographic location or income level.

The use of artificial intelligence and big data has also played a crucial role in global health initiatives, enabling researchers to track disease outbreaks in real-time and predict potential future threats. By harnessing these technologies, the global health community is better equipped to respond to emerging infectious diseases and prevent future pandemics.

7. Sustainability and Climate Change: A New Health Frontier

As the world faces the growing threat of climate change, its impact on public health is becoming increasingly apparent. Extreme weather events, rising temperatures, and pollution are contributing to a range of health problems, from respiratory diseases to heatstroke and waterborne illnesses. In 2024, addressing the health consequences of climate change has become a key priority for health organizations worldwide.

Efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change on health include promoting clean energy, reducing carbon emissions, and increasing access to clean water and sanitation. In addition, governments are working to build resilient healthcare systems that can withstand the challenges posed by a changing climate. This includes investing in infrastructure to protect vulnerable populations from heatwaves and floods, as well as increasing awareness of the health risks associated with climate change.

A Transformative Year for Global Health

In 2024, the healthcare landscape has been marked by groundbreaking advancements, new technologies, and a renewed focus on inclusivity and sustainability. From Russia’s cancer vaccine and menstruation in space to personalized medicine and climate change health initiatives, this year has proven to be transformative. As we move forward, these innovations have the potential to improve the lives of millions, ensuring that healthcare becomes more accessible, efficient, and effective in addressing both chronic and emerging health challenges.

This bill aims to implement the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, which seeks to synchronize national elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

In addition to the main bill, Meghwal also proposed amendments to the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963, the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. These amendments are intended to align assembly elections in Delhi, Jammu Kashmir, and Puducherry with the proposed simultaneous elections.

Opposition Voices Concerns Over Constitutional Integrity

Congress MP Manish Tewari voiced strong opposition to the bill, arguing that it undermines the Constitution’s basic structure. He stated, “The essential features are federalism and the structure of our democracy. Therefore, the bills moved by the Minister of Law and Justice are an absolute assault on the basic structure of the Constitution.”

Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav echoed Tewari’s sentiments, expressing confusion over the government’s sudden push for the amendment just days after upholding constitutional values. He emphasized the wisdom of the Constitution’s framers and criticized the bill as a threat to its foundational principles.

Cabinet’s Recommendations and Opposition’s Reactions

In September, the Union Cabinet approved recommendations from a High-Level Committee on Simultaneous Elections, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind. The committee proposed implementing simultaneous polls in two phases, with local body elections to follow within 100 days of general elections. It also recommended a common electoral roll for all elections.

However, opposition leaders, including those from Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), have expressed vehement opposition to the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh labeled the bill unconstitutional and a threat to democracy, asserting that it aims to undermine accountability in governance. He further claimed that the bill is part of a broader agenda to replace India’s Constitution.

NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to discuss the bill, emphasizing the need for thorough deliberation. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari criticized the government’s approach, suggesting that an all-party meeting would have been more appropriate for discussing such significant constitutional changes.

Congress MP K Suresh reiterated the party’s strong opposition, stating that the bill threatens India’s democracy and federal structure. He predicted that while NDA allies like TDP and JD(U) may not openly oppose the bill, they are likely against it.

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav also condemned the bill, asserting that it contradicts various sections of the Constitution. Earlier in the day, Tewari submitted a formal notice to oppose the introduction of the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, citing serious concerns regarding constitutionalism and legality.

Although classified as potentially hazardous due to its size, NASA assures there is no risk of impact. The asteroid is being closely monitored by space agencies.
</excerpt>

NASA has issued an alert regarding a potentially hazardous asteroid, named 2024 ON, which is currently hurtling toward Earth at a speed of 25,000 mph. Expected to pass by on September 15, 2025, the asteroid, which is approximately 720 feet in diameter about the size of two cricket pitches or a 60-story skyscraper poses no immediate threat of collision, according to NASA’s latest assessments.

The asteroid’s closest approach will bring it within 0.62 million miles of Earth, or more than 2.5 times the distance between Earth and the moon. While this is considered a “close approach” by astronomical standards, NASA assures the public there is no risk of impact.

NASA monitors near-Earth asteroid activity

Asteroid 2024 ON was first detected by the Near-Earth Object Observations Programme on September 5, 2024. This program, led by G. Borisov, continues to monitor its trajectory closely. The Virtual Telescope Project has also noted the asteroid’s path, stating that another near-Earth object, asteroid 2024 RR3, will have a “close but safe” encounter with Earth on June 7, 2024, coming as close as 360,000 kilometers (about 93% of the lunar distance).

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, is conducting further studies on 2024 ON, utilizing radar and optical telescopes to determine its size, shape, and chemical composition. The Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO) is also actively involved, reiterating that the risk of an apocalyptic collision is minimal.

International collaboration to study asteroid composition

NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) are collaborating to study the compositional makeup of asteroid 2024 ON, gathering data to improve planetary defense strategies and deepen understanding of near-Earth objects. Despite the asteroid’s size and speed, experts emphasize that there is no cause for alarm regarding its upcoming passage.

</excerpt>

It is very evident now that the Congress has decided to fully stand by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Haryana, as the party declared its names, many of them, hours before the last date for nomination ended on Thursday. Out of the 89 out of 90 constituencies, the Congress is contesting in the state where the BJP has been in power for the past 10 years, Hooda’s loyalists were allotted 72 seats, with the 19 going to others. In addition, if the ticket distribution did not lead to a demonstration outside the AICC, as it has happened in the past so far as Haryana is concerned, the credit should go to Ajay Maken, whose strategic and tactful handling of the situation was for all to see. In fact, Ajay had convinced the High Command to release the lists in phases, seven, perhaps, and the last one, where there were contentious seats, only towards the end, so not many got the opportunity to demonstrate at the AICC headquarters. In fact, the disgruntled leaders, also had left for their areas, and many out of them filed their nominations as Independents. The exercise has now commenced to persuade the dissidents to withdraw their names by September 15th, which is the last date of withdrawal and by a coincidence also happens to be Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s birthday. The Congress went about its task methodically and Ajay Maken’s homework on the basis of surveys and the data he collected, was instrumental while taking the final decision. The broad analysis of the Congress list shows that despite fierce infighting till the very end, the Central leadership stood by Hooda.

There are 27 Jats, who have been given the tickets, the same as last time, and other communities have been accommodated, depending on their winnability. The Punjabis, who have a population scattered all over the State, and have a dominant presence in many urban areas have been given six seats, as compared to two last time. This is where Ajay Maken could have played a role, since he is considered even by Rahul Gandhi, as someone, who takes up the Punjabi cause, given that they get ignored in many places, and thus need to have their voices in Legislative Assemblies and Parliament. The difference in ticket distribution this time as compared to 2019 is that there were no quotas which were allotted to various state leaders going by the previous experience, where those who were selected by some of the top functionaries lost the polls. The instructions were to choose from the applicants and only identify those who had winnability on their side. Even though many believe that the Congress has an edge in the State polls, the High Command was not willing to allow any wrong choices to impact the outcome. At the last minutes, at Hooda’s insistence, many experienced leaders got the preference though there were many deserving candidates, who thus got overlooked. For instance, in Bawal (Reserved) which the Congress has not won in 32 years, Dr ML Ranga, was selected though the expectation was that Delhi University lecturer and young aspirant, Dr Teena Karamvir would get the seat. It is obvious that the party may have other plans for the likes of Teena and therefore she got overlooked. In fact, the Congress has fielded 12 women, more than any other party and this could help in the campaign. In deciding the seats, the party has accommodated the sons of Randeep Surjewala, Chaudhury Birendra Singh and some others.

The BJP which was also facing dissensions from those who have been denied tickets is also trying to sort out the differences. The issues across the State concern elementary matters related to job and existence. For instance, the slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, has Jai Pehalwan added to it, in view of Vinesh Phogat contesting the polls and her colleague, Bajrang Punia joining the Congress. The opposition to the Agniveer scheme, the farmer’s agitation and the wrestlers’ protests, shall be factors in the elections. The BJP is aware of this and has asked Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former boss of the Wrestling Federation to not open his mouth and refrain from giving statements that could have an adverse impact on party nominees. Brij Bhushan had stated that it was good that Vinesh Phogat did not win the gold medal at the Olympics, a remark, which was widely condemned, even by many in the BJP.

How could a sports lover speak like this and observe that it was good for the country not to have won the Gold in respect of Vinesh Phogat. In Haryana, it is being seen as pure blasphemy. The break-up of talks between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party too, has been welcomed by many in the Congress. However, what is not understandable is the decision of AAP to field nominees on all the seats. The question is that the party has negligible presence in the State from where Arvind Kejriwal hails, and why would it spend so much money and resources, knowing fully well, that the chances of victory of the nominees were very low. It is also a matter of debate whether the presence of the AAP candidates, most of whom would forfeit their deposits perhaps, would harm the Congress or the BJP. The outcome would determine how the people voted in the end. However, like always, Independents shall emerge victorious on some seats while smaller parties too may win a few in the contest which is largely between the Congress and the BJP.

</excerpt>

The introduction of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 has sparked a nationwide movement within the Muslim community.
It’s crucial that this movement remains authentic and isn’t co-opted by any external forces.
While the increased engagement in the democratic process is encouraging, there is a need for vigilance as some elements with vested interests are influencing the discourse negatively.

The government’s proposal of the Bill has elicited strong reactions, which quite understandably many are attributing to political motivations.
Opposition leaders are actively advocating for the Muslim community, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on the floor of the house has made a statement that the intention of introducing the Bill is in the interest of the Muslim community.

In this backdrop it is important to approach this situation with a degree of trust and open dialogue. The movement advocating for necessary amendments has, for the most part, been constructive.
However, there are attempts to make the Bill as a communal issue, which is counterproductive.

Some concerning posts are emerging on social media, where certain anti-social elements are attempting to instill fear and create panic among the community.
Claims are being made that the Bill would lead to the government taking control of numerous mosques and graveyards.
Calls to oppose the Bill by changing WhatsApp display pictures such as ‘I reject Waqf Bill’ and social media statuses are becoming prevalent.
Such actions may not serve the best interests of the community and could instead foster a negative perception.

The law already exists since 1913/1923 in the British era and it has been codified in 1954, 1995, and 2013. Primarily the system functions under Central Waqf Council, Waqf Boards in respective states and the Waqf Tribunals.

Syed Akhter Mahmood, former IRS who drafted the 2013 amendment bill believes that there are certain provisions in 2024 Bill which should not be there. But there is also a need to improve the already existing provisions such as maintenance of Waqf property websites.
He says there are many recommendations from the 2013 Bill which have not been implemented and if considered by the JPC could make the implementation easy. There is a need for affirmative action and constructive dialogue.

Efforts to downplay the necessity of the Waqf reforms and present them as an attack on Muslims needs proper application of mind.
The debate over the Bill in Parliament highlighted differences between BJP and Opposition members, resulting in a significant discussion on various provisions.

Despite reassurances from Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, dissent persisted.
To address these concerns, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla established a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) led by MP Jagadambika Pal to review the Bill and solicit public input. MP Jagadambika Pal is a seasoned leader who has vast political experience.
This initiative has garnered substantial feedback from the Muslim community, reflecting a largely positive response. Notable leaders, including Najeeb Jung, Lt. Gen Zameeruddin Shah, and Zafar Mahmood, have contributed their views to the Committee, showcasing constructive engagement.

Additionally, videos encouraging community members to participate by submitting their suggestions to the JPC have been widely circulated and have generally fostered a positive democratic engagement. Despite this, misinformation about the Bill continues to proliferate on social media.

There are definitely many points which need the Government’s reconsideration but outright rejection of the bill without even understanding it properly would be highly inappropriate.
The encouraging news is that many Muslims have individually submitted their suggestions via email to the Committee. However, figures like Zakir Naik have used their platforms to incite strong opposition against the Bill, which should be approached with high caution.
It is essential that the engagement with the government remains direct and free from the influence of vested interests.

To get more clarity the fundamental question the Muslim community must address is whether the current Waqf management system is functioning effectively.
Historically, the system has been plagued by corruption and mismanagement, with significant misuse of Waqf properties.

There are more than 50 Waqf properties which have issues of conflict with the Archeological Survey of India. While the management is being handled by the Waqf Boards, the maintenance and protection has been ASI’s responsibility since 1914.
Understandably the priority of the Waqf Boards had been to generate income for social work from the properties by allowing commercial activities, ASI’s mandate has been the restoration and protection of these properties from any further damage.

These conflicts have remained unresolved since decades. While the Waqf initiated commercial interests are important to take care of the needy, we should not also ignore the fact that these monuments and properties also have a heritage value.
There is a need to take a rational view in consultation with the governments or the courts of law wherever the parties have gone into litigation. Pendency of court cases has been another major issue.

Waqf remains the third-largest landowner in India, after Defence and Railways. If managed properly, this resource could have greatly benefited the community.
Past experiences, such as those with the Shah Bano and Ram Janmabhoomi cases, illustrate the pitfalls of being swayed by rhetoric.

As participants in a democracy, it’s crucial to navigate the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 with a clear, rational approach. And iron out the differences.
The movement surrounding it should be directed positively to avoid it becoming another missed opportunity.

Advocate for your rights through civil means, but ensure that the movement is not manipulated by external agendas.

He further criticized Bhupinder Singh Hooda, saying that even when Hooda was the Chief Minister, he did nothing for the farmers and questioned when Hooda provided MSP on more crops than the BJP in Haryana.

In response to a question about the Supreme Court›s impending decision regarding bulldozer operations, he said that the decision of the Honorable Supreme Court will be studied because it is our guiding authority, and further actions will be taken in accordance with their ruling.

In response to Dushyant Chautala›s remark that the Chief Minister is like a cut kite, Vij said that they do not need to answer Chautala. When the BJP releases its list, the Chief Minister›s name will also be included. He advised Chautala to focus on his party as their supporters are fleeing.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi›s statement regarding mob lynching of Muslims under BJP›s rule, Vij said that the peace under Modi›s governance is unmatched, whereas during the Congress era, the entire country and states were engulfed in riots. However, under BJP›s rule, everything is under control.

When asked about Rahul Gandhi›s statement regarding changing the Constitution, Vij said that it was actually Rahul Gandhi›s grandmother who attempted to change the Constitution, not the BJP. She used Article 356 to dissolve state assemblies, whereas Narendra Modi has not done so.When asked about AAP›s claim that they will provide the same facilities in Haryana as they do in Delhi and Punjab, whereas BJP has provided none, Vij said that the people of Delhi threw AAP out from all seven Lok Sabha seats, and similarly, AAP faced a severe setback in Punjab. AAP has lost its credibility and now has nothing left. When asked about the absence of candidate lists from any party for the Haryana Assembly elections, Vij said that nominations haven›t even started yet, but he hopes that all party lists will be released before the nominations.

Red Ganesh Idol: Power and Courage

The color red, associated with Mars (Mangal), symbolizes power, courage, and determination. A red Ganesh idol is selected by those who seek to harness these powerful energies in their lives. This vibrant hue is believed to emanate a strong, warrior-like force, aiding devotees in overcoming significant challenges. However, the intensity of the red Ganesh requires careful and respectful worship, as its potent energy must be channeled with precision. For individuals ready to embrace the dynamic force of Mars, the red Ganesh idol serves as a formidable protector and guide.

Orange Ganesh Idol: Balance and Positivity

Orange, a blend of the vigor of red and the warmth of yellow, represents a balance between energy and calmness. An orange Ganesh idol is ideal for those seeking harmony and progress coupled with peace. The energy of the orange idol is both uplifting and stabilizing, making it a great choice for creating a serene and balanced atmosphere at home. The rituals for worshipping an orange Ganesh are more flexible, allowing for a gentler and effective practice that helps devotees maintain tranquility and stability in their daily lives.

Blue Ganesh Idol: Spiritual Depth

Blue, the color of the vast sky and deep ocean, signifies infinity, wisdom, and spiritual depth. Though less common, a blue Ganesh idol holds profound significance for those on a spiritual journey. The blue idol is said to resonate with energies of extensive spiritual knowledge, guiding devotees through the deeper mysteries of existence. The rituals for the blue Ganesh are often more complex, requiring a higher level of spiritual commitment. Practices may include keeping five Akhand Diyas (unbroken lamps) lit continuously, offering five meal Bhogs daily, and performing the pooja while wearing silk clothing. This idol is suited for those ready to delve into the inner depths of their soul and seek wisdom beyond the material realm, with the blue Ganesh as their spiritual guide.

White Ganesh Idol: Peace and Purity

White, symbolizing purity and peace, represents serenity and clarity. A white or natural-colored Ganesh idol embodies a calming and soothing presence, making it perfect for creating a peaceful environment at home. The energy of the white idol fosters tranquility, allowing for a space where peace can truly thrive. The rituals for the white Ganesh are simple and focus on purity of heart and intention. This idol is ideal for those who wish to cultivate a harmonious and serene space, free from intense energies, and invite the gentle presence of Lord Ganesha into their lives.

Selecting a Ganesh idol is a sacred decision, as each color brings its own unique energy to your spiritual practice. Whether you choose the dynamic strength of red, the balanced positivity of orange, the profound spiritual depth of blue, or the serene purity of white, the color of the idol will shape your worship and the blessings you receive. By understanding the mystical significance of these colors, you can align your spiritual journey with your personal goals and welcome the divine grace of Lord Ganesha into your life in a meaningful way.

However, the fact that the paper was leaked on the dark web, which is the hidden part of the internet that is not indexed by regular search engines and circulated on telegrams, also highlights the failure of the present digital system. Many exams worldwide have started using digital systems to mitigate such security incidents, allowing for greater reliability, fairness and inclusion in high-stakes exams. </excerpt>

As the 2024 NEET paper controversy continues to impact students’ lives and jeopardise the future of more than 24 lakh students, it triggered discussions on how technology could potentially mitigate some of the security challenges in these high-stakes exams. Still, the existing digital divide and its unique challenges are also to be considered while discussing any potential shift in policy.

Even though the proposed Digital India Act, 2023 was placed for consultation on 9th March 2023 by then Minister of State for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY), Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar, to replace the Information Technology Act of 2000 (IT Act), the concerns continue to exist. The Act is crucial to ensuring India’s secure, accountable and innovative digital future. However, issues like the NEET and UGC NET paper leaks raise questions regarding the safety of India’s digital architecture and the kind of controls that the government can exercise in such situations. In the past, on the occurrence of any such situations, the steps taken by the government include blocking or throttling of mobile communications, websites, social media and messaging applications that have affected the promotion and protection of the exercise of rights over the internet and have been condemned by international organisations like the UN.

In this context, the Digital India Act, 2023 aims to ensure online safety, trust and accountability, open internet, and regulations of new age technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies. The act will accompany the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, Digital India Act Rules, National Data Governance Policy, and IPC amendments for Cyber Crimes that have taken shape through the new criminal law acts since 1st July this year. This act seeks to ensure the openness, safety, trust, and accountability of the Internet, which is of paramount significance given the background of the paper leaks and violation of the rights of the students to have fair and transparent examinations.

One of the essential aspects the proposed Digital India Act will have to overcome is the Digital Divide. This phenomenon refers to the gap between the haves and the have-nots, that is, the absence of internet accessibility with the larger populace that affects the free flow of information, especially for the students who prepare for such exams. One such category of students is the socially and educationally disadvantaged students who come within the category of the have-nots. Such students have gained access to education in private schools with advanced digital technologies through the quota for them under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. Section 12(1) of the Act directs private schools to reserve 25% of seats for children from economically weaker sections. Children in this quota are admitted at the entry level, and the government bears the cost of the next eight years of their education.

However, implementing the same has been a concern, especially since the pandemic. The reason is high dropouts, especially for children from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, since the parents of these children lost their employment, which forced the children to contribute towards the sustenance of the family. Furthermore, the National Education Policy, 2020 has also ignored factors such as caste, religion, region or ethnicity for children from weaker sections of society and assumed a level playing field.

While India’s has the world’s second fastest-growing mobile market, it is lagging behind when it comes to internet connectivity. Oxfam’s India Inequality Report, 2022 stated that only 31 per cent of the rural population uses the internet compared to 67 per cent of the urban population and access to the internet through any device; urban children fared better in urban India at 44 per cent than in rural areas at 17 per cent, with only 4 per cent of students from SC and ST communities having access to a computer and the internet. The exorbitant costs of EdTech products also contributed to the digital divide.

The aspect of governmental control and reasons like national security and public order often have been cited to control internet access, which has also been recognised internationally by bodies like the International Telecommunication Union under its Constitution through Articles 34 and 35. The fact ignored while implementing such measures is its disproportionate impact on students needing internet access. This is more so in a country like India, which has regional disparities, lower internet penetration, less experienced digital regulatory institutions, unequal per capita income and varying digital skills.

Regarding the frequency of internet shutdowns, India holds the record for one of the highest number of shutdowns in the world. These shutdowns are executed through the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017, under which the competent authorities have direct and express power to direct internet shutdowns. Additionally, the government can impose a shutdown under section 5(2) of the Telegraph Act, which authorises the government to detain telegraphs during a public emergency or in the interest of public safety.

Instead, there is a need for sustained and transformed digital empowerment based on principles of access, adoption and inclusivity that enhance citizen trust, especially for the students who constitute a more significant proportion of the users and make the system user-friendly. From a comparative aspect, the practice followed in the European Union may act as a guiding light. In Europe, the focus has been on content regulation, i.e. the material being displayed to the users over the internet, protection of free speech and the right to privacy. Moreover, Europe has taken a proactive approach regarding concerns related to privacy, such as the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which shifts the responsibility for privacy and security to the service providers.

In the future, the need of the hour is for a holistic and inclusive approach to develop an ecosystem of digital literacy awareness, education and training involving enhanced cooperation and mutual sectoral collaboration with students, teachers, and the larger community to address the challenges of the digital divide due to lack of access and digital illiteracy.

How to Enhance Your Viewing Experience

– Photography: If you have a camera, use a longer exposure to capture the details of the moon’s surface. Smartphone users can adjust the exposure manually for better results.
– Binoculars/Telescope: If you have access to them, binoculars or a telescope can significantly enhance your viewing experience.

The founder of ETOS Design
As a woman entrepreneur, having the power to make your own decisions is essential for success and personal fulfillment and growth. Trusting your instincts and being clear about your goals helps navigate the unique challenges and responsibilities of entrepreneurship.
It’s important to balance confidence with flexibility. Trusting your gut can guide you through tough choices, but being open to feedback and adapting as needed can also be incredibly valuable. Your clarity and decisiveness drive your business forward and serve as a powerful example to others.
“On this Independence Day, I envision a future where women-led development is not just a dream but a reality. It is important to remember that real independence for women is still a work in progress while we celebrate the freedom of our country. The concerning data on crimes committed against women serves as a reminder that not everyone is entitled to safety and respect.”
By Prachi Kaushik
Founder and Director of Vyomini Social Enterprise

“We must reconnect with our Vedic values, which celebrate the strength and wisdom of women, and break free from societal stereotypes and taboos that continue to hold us back. Women’s equality in the workplace is not only desirable but also essential to the advancement of our country. Women’s health and hygiene need to be given priority, particularly in rural areas where these problems are frequently disregarded.
Nari Shakti, or women’s power, deserves full representation in our Parliament, where decisions that shape our future are made. Together, let’s make it possible for every Indian woman to live in freedom, equality, and dignity. Only then can we truly say that we are an independent nation.”
By Paridhi Goel –
The Co-founder of Love Earth

“Independence and freedom, as a woman entrepreneur, mean the power to carve your own path and build something from the ground up on your terms. It’s about breaking barriers, challenging norms, and creating a space where creativity and innovation are unbound. True freedom is when you can lead without compromise, uplift others along the way, and redefine success with passion and purpose.”

</excerpt>

Every year on August 15th, as India celebrates its Independence Day, the skies over Delhi come alive with a vibrant display of colorful kites. The tradition of kite flying on Independence Day has become a symbolic representation of the nation’s freedom and unity, with the city’s rooftops turning into a lively battlefield of skill, competition, and joy.
The roots of kite flying in India can be traced back centuries, but it gained particular prominence during the fight for independence. In those days, kites were used as a medium of protest, with freedom fighters sending messages of resistance to the British Raj. Over time, the activity evolved from a form of rebellion to a beloved tradition that brings together people from all walks of life.

In Delhi, the spirit of kite flying is infectious, with people of all ages participating in the festivities. The day begins early, with kite enthusiasts preparing their gear—spools of manjha (kite string), kites of various shapes and sizes, and a competitive spirit to match. Markets like Lal Kuan in Old Delhi become hubs of activity in the days leading up to Independence Day, as people flock to buy their kites and stock up on the best manjha, known for its strength and sharpness.

As the day progresses, rooftops across the city fill with families, friends, and neighbors, all eager to test their skills. The skies above are a canvas painted with kites of every color, each one representing a wish for freedom, hope, and joy. The sight of kites soaring high, battling the wind, and competing for dominance creates an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie. Kite flying is not just a casual pastime; it is a test of dexterity and strategy. Participants engage in friendly duels, attempting to cut the strings of their rivals’ kites—a move met with cheers and shouts of “Kai Po Che!” when successful. The defeated kites flutter to the ground, only to be quickly replaced by new ones, keeping the skies filled with color throughout the day.

The joy of kite flying in Delhi is not limited to the rooftops. Public parks and open spaces also become gathering spots for kite lovers. Families spread out picnics, children chase after fallen kites, and the air is filled with the sounds of laughter, music, and patriotic songs. The spirit of Independence Day is palpable, with the activity serving as a reminder of the freedom the nation fought so hard to achieve.

As evening approaches, the skies gradually clear of kites, but the excitement of the day lingers. The sunset marks the end of a day filled with unity, celebration, and the shared experience of flying kites. For many, it is a time to reflect on the values of freedom and independence, which are symbolically tied to the kites soaring freely in the sky.
Kite flying in Delhi on Independence Day is more than just a tradition—it is a celebration of the spirit of freedom that unites the nation. It serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of the Indian people, who, like the kites, rise high against the winds of adversity, soaring toward a brighter future.

</excerpt>

India that is Bharat.
Bharat that is Bharatvarsh.
Values standing test of time.
Timeless,ageless,infinite layers.
Like the petals of a lotus flower.

India, a young nation created in modern times, has never faced an existential crisis. It was always the hordes of plunderers, fleets of buccaneer merchants, and those enticed by the alluring charm of its truthful, trusting, and liberal philosophy who flocked to this ancient land of wit, wisdom, and wealth.

The air, water, and earth of Bharat welcomed all who came to seek shelter, knowledge, or a living. This was largely due to the large-heartedness and openness of its broad-minded people, coupled with the fire in their limbs and a fiery spirit of valor, tempered with kindness and ethics. However, not all who came seeking refuge or greener pastures were grateful souls. Some destroyed the moral fabric carried through Satyuga, Tretayuga, and Dwaparyuga in this Kaliyuga, creating quislings, traitors, moles, sleeper cells, and other anti-social elements in a plural society. Naturally, this has transformed into a Dharmayudh—a battle for supremacy between evil forces and those committed to upholding righteousness.

On this Independence Day, it is our onerous responsibility and bounden duty to checkmate anti-national forces through effective laws, honest enforcement, and good governance. This is the litmus test of nationalism. Merely waving a flag or standing at attention for the national anthem is not enough to end social ills. If we are to carve a new India, the ethos of oneness and equality must be respected. The first step in this direction is the enactment of a Common Civil Code. Next, existing laws must be adjusted in various ways to improve the quality of life for every citizen. The perennial tussle between the three arms of government in a people’s democracy must end. Cooperation rather than confrontation, coordination instead of one-upmanship, should override individual prejudices and biases, whether based on man-made castes, creeds, religions, ideologies, or groupism. Morality must be instilled in school-going children. Youth power, in and outside of colleges, must be harnessed to create an awakened community of Indians that the rest of the world would look up to—just as the sunflower dazzles when the sun rises in the east.

A sense of direction and purpose has already been given by the Preamble to the Constitution of India. Its avowed goals are justice—political, social, and economic. Better teaching standards in the fields of law, medicine, policing, administration, and industrial management are the need of the hour. India abounds in both talent and human resources. Skills exist and need to be nurtured. More jobs must be generated to end the debilitating social burden of sops, job reservations, and subsidies based on irrational beliefs of perpetual ostracization, discrimination, and allegiance to a certain political ideology. The ennui that has crept into our great country should exit, but it should not turn into euphoria or a false sense of happiness. Real-time benefits for the hard efforts put in by millions of people every day should manifest in higher purchasing power, more scientific thinking in urban development, and higher support for reversing the trend of migration from rural areas to cities and towns that have mushroomed without adequate infrastructure to provide basic amenities like proper sanitation, drainage, water, and electricity. The nexus between tax evaders and a corrupt bureaucracy—including a crippled criminal justice system—must be broken. This is possible through greater public participation in socially useful productive work. Creating awareness in the general public through a positive mass movement (more at the grassroots level and less through social media marketing) will go a long way in instilling a sense of happiness, confidence, and direction in a lost generation. The masses will rise like a huge tidal wave and douse divisive tendencies with the fear of retribution and punishment under the law. All this is both possible and urgently needed to navigate the confusion, chaos, and resentment faced by everyone on multiple fronts.

Bharatvarsh will not be about nomenclature, nor will freedom remain an anachronism. Discontent will subside, and murmurs of approval will replace the cacophony of today’s society. The challenges of the seven-decade itch must be addressed promptly, not necessarily by those in power but by the literati and soldiers of civil society. We have been a great civilization, and our ancient culture reflects the soul of our religion—Hindutva, Universalism, or Humanity. Perverse interpretations of the scriptures, compounded by the arrogance and superiority complex exhibited by some elements in governance, have made contemporary India vulnerable to mass invasive means such as brainwashing through paid media channels and deep fake narratives spun by vested interests.

Life is a blessing. It must not be wasted away. One must not lead life as driftwood or a vagabond. Respect flows upwards, and love flows downwards. This is the essence of Indian philosophy. Everything else is a distortion or deviation from the truth, aimed at destroying awareness, conscience, and good judgment. Personal values form the core of integrity and the ability to bring about integration among alienated sections and marginalized communities of the country. Each one of us can become a beacon of hope and light to those lost in the darkness of ignorance or the abyss of despair, frustration, and regret. So, may every Indian rise, awaken, and awaken the lions who are lost in the slumber of lambs. A new India must no longer remain a euphemism. It can be made in no time. The will of the Constitution of India in its sublime form must be respected.

There must no longer be illiterate leaders, semi-literate administrators, or corrupt judges presiding over the fate and lives of one hundred fifty billion Indians. Yes, I would reckon all people of Indian origin as well as foreigners who look up to our civilizational presence are to be catered to by our live-and-let-live manifesto for mankind. We never wage war, but if any evil power attempts to drag us into one, rest assured our brilliant armed forces will end the war with a brave victory. India has been a Vishwaguru ever since the advent of river-valley civilizations.

Jai Hind!

</excerpt>

The Haj Association of India has expressed strong support for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, describing it as a “significant initiative” by the government.

A Aboobucker, chairman of the Haj Association of India, praised the bill, stating that it would be beneficial for women’s empowerment and provide assistance to the poor. “We welcome this amendment as the Waqf Act is quite old and needs updates in line with the current scenario. The government of India has taken a big initiative, and we fully support it,” Aboobucker said. He also criticized the opposition to the bill, asserting that some organizations and political parties are resisting necessary reforms.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, proposes to rename the Waqf Act, 1995, as the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act, 1995. It seeks to address issues related to the powers of State Waqf Boards, registration and survey of waqf properties, and the removal of encroachments. Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who introduced the bill, emphasized that it does not interfere with the freedom of any religious body but aims to grant rights to those who have historically been deprived.

However, the bill faced strong opposition in the Lok Sabha. Congress MP KC Venugopal called it an “attack on the federal system,” while NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule urged the government to either withdraw the bill or send it to a standing committee for further consideration. RSP MP NK Premachandran warned that the law could be struck down if subjected to judicial scrutiny, and DMK MP Kanimozhi argued that the bill violates Article 30, which protects the rights of minorities to administer their institutions.

Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi also voiced their opposition, with Owaisi claiming that the bill breaches the principles of Articles 14, 15, and 25 of the Constitution.

Despite the opposition, the bill has found support from other quarters. Earlier this week, the All India Sufi Sajjadanshin Council (AISSC) also welcomed the proposed amendments, with Chairman Syed Naseruddin Chishty urging all parties to cooperate with the government in passing the bill. </excerpt>

Mercury retrograde is a popular topic in astrology, often associated with communication mishaps, travel delays, and general confusion. In 2024, Mercury will enter retrograde three times, each period offering unique opportunities for reflection and reevaluation. Here’s a closer look at what to expect during Mercury retrograde in 2024 and how to navigate these phases.

When Does Mercury Retrograde Occur in 2024?

In 2024, Mercury will go retrograde during the following periods:

January 1 to January 25: The first retrograde of the year begins right at the start, impacting the beginning of the year. This phase starts in Capricorn and moves back into Sagittarius.

May 6 to May 30: The second retrograde begins in Taurus and moves back into Aries. This period often influences practical and financial matters.

September 4 to September 24: The third retrograde takes place in Virgo and ends in Leo. This phase can affect communication and work-related issues.

What Does Mercury Retrograde Mean?

Mercury retrograde occurs when the planet Mercury appears to move backward in its orbit from our perspective on Earth. This optical illusion happens three to four times a year and is known for its association with disruptions in communication, technology, and travel. In astrology, it’s a time traditionally advised for reflection rather than initiating new projects.

How to Navigate Mercury Retrograde

Double-Check Communications: Be meticulous with emails, contracts, and other forms of communication. Misunderstandings and errors are common during this time.

Backup Your Data: Since technology can be unreliable, it’s wise to back up important files and ensure all your gadgets are functioning properly.

Reevaluate and Reflect: Use this period to revisit old projects or ideas. Mercury retrograde is an excellent time for introspection and making necessary adjustments.

Be Patient with Delays: Travel plans and daily routines might face interruptions. Embrace flexibility and patience.

Avoid Major Decisions: While it’s a good time for reflection, avoid making significant decisions or commitments if possible. Wait until Mercury goes direct to proceed with new ventures.

The Impact on Different Signs

The influence of Mercury retrograde can vary depending on your astrological sign. For instance, Earth signs like Taurus and Virgo might experience disruptions in practical matters, while Fire signs such as Aries and Leo might face challenges in communication and self-expression.

Understanding and preparing for Mercury retrograde can help mitigate its potential challenges. By staying flexible and focused, you can use this time effectively for introspection and growth. Remember, while Mercury retrograde can bring its share of complications, it also offers a valuable opportunity to reassess and realign with your goals.

</excerpt>

Imagine a world where creating captivating videos is as easy as snapping your fingers. An intelligent assistant handles tedious tasks like editing, color correction, and scene composition, leaving you free to focus on storytelling. This is the reality of AI-powered video production. AI has transformed visual content production and consumption, from live sports events to social media clips. Video editing is undergoing a groundbreaking shift, propelled by AI advancements, balancing AI assistance and human ingenuity. In 2024, AI has become the central component of video production, replacing labor-intensive manual editing with unparalleled efficiency and creative potential. As we move into 2024, several key trends are set to revolutionize the industry.

AI-Powered Automation
AI-powered automation has transformed video editing by handling mundane tasks. Advanced auto-editing tools allow AI to trim, splice, and arrange clips based on styles or preferences, extending to color correction, audio enhancement, and motion tracking. Tools like Adobe Premiere Pro’s AI automate color matching, reducing manual adjustments. AI also aids with facial recognition and transition suggestions, making editing intuitive for beginners. By reducing manual workload, AI-powered tools allow editors to focus more on creativity and storytelling.

The Power of Storytelling with VR and AR
One exciting development in 2024 is the integration of AI with virtual and augmented reality technologies. Imagine creating fully immersive, interactive video experiences that adapt to the viewer’s actions and preferences in real-time. AI-powered VR and AR will likely revolutionize storytelling and audience engagement, blurring the lines between the virtual and the real. For example, a sports documentary could use AI to adjust the narrative based on the viewer’s interests, providing bespoke content that changes dynamically. This trend will make video editing more interactive and personalized, allowing creators to produce highly engaging and customized experiences for their audiences.

Real-Time Collaboration and Cloud Editing
In the latter half of 2024, cloud computing is set to revolutionize video production, making real-time collaboration more accessible. AI-enhanced cloud platforms offer seamless syncing of edits and intelligent asset management, crucial for global projects. Cloud computing provides cost efficiency with scalable, pay-as-you-go models and expands creative possibilities with advanced tools, AI frameworks, and machine learning algorithms. Platforms like Magnifi will enable collaboration with translators and real-time commentators, enhancing global teamwork and providing multiple language coverage. For example, during international sports events, cloud-based solutions facilitate real-time collaboration, ensuring content is accessible to a diverse global audience, and making video production more inclusive, dynamic, and versatile.

HDR Video Editing Trends
Color grading, crucial for enhancing video footage, has gained new significance with the rise of High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology. HDR offers a broader color spectrum and increased contrast for more realistic visuals. AI and machine learning enhance color grading and real-time rendering, making advanced tools and HDR support vital in video editing workflows. As HDR technology becomes more prevalent, its importance will grow, enabling creators to deliver visually captivating and engaging content.

Mobile Video Editing and Cross-Platform Workflows
The rise of mobile content creation and social media has led to a surge in demand for powerful, user-friendly mobile video editing solutions. Video editing software providers are responding with mobile apps that offer robust editing capabilities while maintaining an intuitive user experience. These apps seamlessly integrate with desktop software, allowing creators to start projects on mobile devices and continue on computers, enhancing productivity and enabling on-the-go editing. Most video editors will exemplify the trend, offering an easy-to-use interface for creating videos from photos and clips on Android and iOS. Mobile video editing will become increasingly sophisticated, as mobile devices advance, narrowing the gap between desktop and mobile editing experiences.

360-Degree Video Editing and Enhanced Mobile Capabilities
AI is driving the growth in immersive video content demand. The advancement of AI-driven tools is making it easier to edit and stitch 360-degree videos, allowing viewers to explore them from different perspectives. Additionally, enhanced mobile capabilities mean high-quality video editing is no longer confined to desktop computers. AI-powered mobile apps enable creators to edit videos on the go, maintaining professional standards without the need for high-end equipment.

Conclusion
AI-powered tools and machine learning technologies are enhancing efficiency and creativity, while cloud-based collaboration fosters seamless teamwork in virtual production. As these innovations evolve, they will undoubtedly revolutionize the industry, offering new possibilities and setting higher standards for video editing. By staying informed about these trends and embracing the latest developments, creators can unlock new levels of creativity and efficiency in their work.

As the nation steps into the New Year 2024, Mayawati, a prominent political figure, extends heartfelt New Year wishes to Indian brothers and sisters across the country and around the world. In her series of tweets, she envisions a year of prosperity, peace, security, and success for all, emphasizing the importance of self-respect.

Mayawati’s tweets underscore a call for a government committed to ‘Guaranteed Employment’ and the genuine pursuit of patriotism and civic duty. She raises concerns about the prevalent political landscape, where, in her view, governmental assurances are often mired in the politics of narrow nationalism, resulting in a significant portion of the population experiencing poverty, backwardness, and deprivation.

Highlighting the economic aspect, Mayawati questions the feasibility of development when a significant number of individuals lack the financial means for day-to-day expenses. She draws attention to the challenges faced by the unemployed and questions the possibility of a ‘Developed India’ without addressing the issue of unemployment.

Furthermore, Mayawati critiques the prolonged impact of both Congress and BJP-led governments, describing them as divisive, arrogant, and exclusionary. She urges the need for a government dedicated to the welfare of the masses, particularly the marginalized communities. As the parliamentary election year approaches, she passionately appeals to the people to support and establish a government that prioritizes public welfare and inclusivity.

Mayawati’s New Year messages blend political insight with a call for social change, setting the stage for discussions on inclusive governance and socio-economic justice in the upcoming political landscape.

</excerpt>

With another new year about to begin, as usual there is hope of something new happening – new opportunities, developments, and new ways of doing things. It is with this expectation of newness that we wish each other a happy new year and look forward to the next twelve months. However, other than a change of date, what is really new in a new year? The people and circumstances are mostly the same; in some ways the challenges only increase.

We tend to see human history as a steady progression towards greater knowledge and a better life. In material terms, human development is said to have brought us from the Stone Age to the Space Age. Advancements in science and technology over the past hundred years alone have transformed our lives, bringing greater comfort, amenities, and ease of doing various tasks.

But at the same time, we have suffered a spiritual decline, as denoted by the characterisation of history as a transition from the Golden Age, or Satyug, to the Iron Age, or Kaliyug. The Golden Age was a period of unalloyed purity, peace, and happiness. The defining qualities of the Iron Age, in contrast, are falsehood, conflict, and sorrow. The present condition of the world is definitely akin to Kaliyug and far from that of Satyug. We remember that earlier period of joy, and worship those who lived at that time as deities.

These deities, who lived thousands of years ago, are venerated to this day because of their sterling qualities. The period when they lived, sometimes referred to as ‘Ram Rajya’, is regarded as an ideal rule or kingdom defined by righteous governance, equality and justice, peace and harmony, prosperity and welfare.

It is a telling comment on the present state of mankind that ‘Ram Rajya’, which was once a reality, is now an aspirational goal, periodically invoked in speeches but tacitly accepted as impossible to achieve.
The root cause of this decline is our spiritual downfall, gradually brought about by repeated compromises with our original qualities of purity, peace, and truth, and succumbing to vices such as greed, selfishness, ego, and anger. The current state of the world is a creation and reflection of the souls living in it.

For the new year to be truly new, the newness will have to begin in the soul. When our thoughts and actions begin to be guided by the soul’s innate virtues, and not by vices, our experiences, relationships, and our entire life will change.

The first step towards this newness is to recognise the fact that we are souls, not bodies. We are children of the Supreme Soul, endowed with His qualities. When we accept this reality and live with this awareness, it will transform the way we see ourselves and others. The resulting spiritual upliftment and bonding with other souls will lay the foundation of an enlightened society.

Without this spiritual rejuvenation, we will persist with our old ways in the new year, and continue to suffer the consequences. The new year will be truly a happy one when we develop a new awareness of the self, our relationship with God, and our spiritual kinship with the entire human family.
