Hardik Pandya’s Emotional Redemption Fuels Anand Mahindra’s Monday Motivation

July 1, 2024, 4:57 pm

Industrialist Anand Mahindra has found his source of Monday Motivation this week in cricketer Hardik Pandya, who played a pivotal role in India’s victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final held in Barbados on June 29.

Pandya’s remarkable performance came after a challenging season in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he faced significant criticism as the new captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), replacing Rohit Sharma. Despite the backlash, Pandya’s perseverance and resilience shone through during the World Cup final, where he bowled the nerve-wracking last over, sealing India’s historic win.

In a heartfelt post on social media, Mahindra shared a picture of Pandya in tears after the victory, captioning it with an inspiring message: “Take a good look. This is the face of a sportsperson who was being heckled on the field and roasted on social media a very short while ago. His tears came from seeing redemption. Because when that picture was taken, he was a hero again. For having bowled the nerve-wracking last over in the #T20WorldCupFinal and being one of the key players in achieving India’s victory. The moral? Whenever life deals you a blow and knocks you down, you can, and will, rise again. He’s my #MondayMotivation.”

Very emotional, we’ve been working very hard, and something was not clicking. But today we got what the whole nation wanted. More special for me, how my last six months were, I haven’t spoken a word. I knew that if I kept working hard, I could shine and do what I could do. Getting an opportunity like this makes it more special.”

India’s victory in the T20 World Cup makes them only the third team in the history of the format to lift the trophy twice. Mahindra’s tribute to Pandya resonated with social media users, who applauded the cricketer’s journey of redemption and resilience.

In a session of the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla and the House extended their congratulations to Cricket Skipper Rohit Sharma and Team India for their recent triumph. Rohit Sharma led the team to their second T20 World Cup title, marking India’s first ICC title in a decade. This victory places Rohit in a distinguished category.

— ANI (@ANI) July 1, 2024

Rohit Sharma has now become the first captain to lead a team to 50 T20I victories, with the 50th win being the World Cup final against South Africa. Following closely is Pakistan’s Babar Azam, with 48 wins from 85 games. Rohit has achieved 50 wins from 62 matches, including a super over victory against Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I.

Rohit is the second Indian captain to secure a T20 World Cup, following MS Dhoni, who led the team to victory in the inaugural edition. As India’s T20I captain, Rohit took over after the team’s disappointing performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup. In his first T20 World Cup as captain, he led India to the semifinals in Australia, where they were defeated by England. In a rematch in the current T20 World Cup, India defeated England by 68 runs in the semifinal.

Under Rohit’s leadership, India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup without losing a single game, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought. Among Indian captains, MS Dhoni is the second most successful in T20I with 41 wins from 72 matches, while Virat Kohli had 30 wins from 50 outings.

T20 World Cup Final Anticipation: India vs. South Africa Amid Rain Concerns

June 29, 2024, 12:03 pm

As excitement mounts for the T20 World Cup final between India vs South Africa on Saturday, there is a growing concern over persistent rain potentially impacting the highly anticipated match. To mitigate any disruption caused by the weather, the event organizers have prudently scheduled a reserve day to ensure the match reaches its conclusion.

Understanding the Reserve Day

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has outlined clear guidelines on the utilization of the reserve day. If rain hampers the game on Saturday, play will resume on Sunday from the point it was interrupted. The ICC emphasizes that every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day, including any necessary reduction in overs. Only if the minimum required overs to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match spill over into the reserve day.

For a match to be considered complete, a minimum of 10 overs must be bowled to the team batting second. Should the match start on Saturday but face interruptions that prevent its completion, it will pick up from where it left off on Sunday. The start time for the reserve day is set for 8:00 PM IST.

Super Over Regulations

In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined through a Super Over. If this also ends in a tie, additional Super Overs will be played until a winner emerges. These can continue indefinitely until a decisive result is achieved.

Weather Forecast

This year’s T20 World Cup has already faced significant weather-related disruptions, casting a shadow over the final showdown in Bridgetown. Here is a detailed look at the weather forecast:

Saturday’s Weather Forecast:

Morning: Cloudy and windy with thunderstorms expected in parts of the area.
- Probability of Precipitation: 44%
- Cloud cover: 98%
- Humidity: 77%
Afternoon: Continued cloudy and breezy conditions with thunderstorms in parts of the area.
- Probability of Precipitation: 46%
- Cloud cover: 99%
- Humidity: 80%

Reserve Day (June 30) Forecast:

Morning: Mostly cloudy and breezy.
- Probability of Precipitation: 25%
Afternoon: Mostly cloudy with occasional rain and thunderstorms; breezy conditions persist.
- Probability of Precipitation: 60%

With both teams eager to break their title droughts, fans are hopeful that the weather will not overshadow what promises to be a thrilling contest. The ICC’s contingency plans, including the reserve day, aim to ensure a fair and conclusive outcome despite the challenges posed by the inclement weather.

T20 World Cup 2024 Final: Stuart Broad’s Harsh ‘IPL’ Comment on Virat Kohli Sparks Buzz

June 29, 2024, 11:24 am

Virat Kohli has had a challenging run in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup, scoring just 75 runs in seven innings, with two ducks and no half-centuries. Despite this, the former India captain is determined to seize what could be his last chance to win an ICC trophy.

India will face South Africa in the final on Saturday in Barbados. To build anticipation, the ICC posted a tribute to Kohli ahead of the big game. The ICC caption read, “The last jewel remains missing from the crown of the king. Virat Kohli is one step away from #T20WorldCup glory.” This highlighted the anticipation surrounding Kohli’s potential victory.

However, veteran England fast bowler Stuart Broad responded harshly to the ICC’s post. Following India’s win over England in the second semifinal, which avenged their loss in Adelaide in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Broad took a jab at Kohli’s long wait for a major trophy by commenting “IPL?” This comment referred to Kohli’s 17-year trophy drought in the Indian Premier League. Broad later deleted the post.

The Men in Blue are aiming to end their ICC trophy drought since the 2013 Champions Trophy and secure their first T20 World Cup title since the inaugural edition in 2007.

Both South Africa and India have remained unbeaten in the 2024 T20 World Cup, showcasing impressive performances throughout the event. However, no team in the history of the T20 World Cup has ever won the tournament without losing a single match.

The two teams have had contrasting journeys to the final. The Rohit Sharma-led side has dominated all their opponents, including heavyweights like Australia, Pakistan, and England. In contrast, the Proteas have had several close calls, narrowly escaping defeats against Bangladesh and Nepal in the group stage. Their final Super 8 match against co-hosts West Indies saw them nearly exit the tournament while chasing a revised target of 123.

India’s Squad: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, Mohammed Siraj, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

India secured a dominant victory over England in their T20 World Cup semi-final clash in Guyana. The match proved to be one-sided, with Rohit Sharma and his team claiming a commanding 68-run win. They now advance to the final, where they will meet South Africa.

India defended 172 runs against England, bowling them out for 103 in 16.4 overs in a rain-affected match. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav shone with three-wicket hauls each, supported by Jasprit Bumrah’s two wickets. Rohit Sharma’s half-century (57) powered India to 171/7 in 20 overs, while Chris Jordan impressed for England with three wickets.

After an eventful match filled with drama and thrilling action, a viral video captured a significant post-game moment. Indian players gathered to commend the umpire for a well-officiated game. However, amidst this, the umpire unintentionally overlooked Bumrah, who stood nearby. Despite briefly acknowledging him, the umpire proceeded to shake hands with other players, inadvertently snubbing the bowler.

Arshdeep’s three-wicket haul made him India’s top wicket-taker in a single T20 World Cup edition with 15 scalps, followed closely by Bumrah (13 in 2024), RP Singh (12 in 2007), and R Ashwin (11 in 2014). India’s latest victory extends their T20I winning streak to 11* (Dec 2023-Jun 2024), their second-longest streak in the format, after their best of 12 from Nov 2021 to Feb 2022.

India’s victory in this T20 World Cup marked their seventh win, placing them second in most wins in a single edition, just behind South Africa with eight wins in 2024.

Adam Gilchrist And Michael Vaughan Slam ICC For Alleged Favoritism Towards India

June 27, 2024, 5:44 pm

Former Australian skipper Adam Gilchrist and ex-English cricketer Michael Vaughan lambasted ICC (International Cricket Council) for the supposed scheduling 2024 T20 World Cup. Thus, accusing the cricket body of favoritism for India.

In their Club Prairie Fire podcast, both Gilchrist and Vaughan lambasted the ICC for this alleged favoritism.

Quoting Republic, Ex-England captain Michael Vaughan spoke the most saying, ‘It’s their tournament, isn’t it? Literally, it’s their tournament. They get to play whenever they want, they get to know exactly where their semi-finals are, they play every single game in the morning so people can watch them in India on the television. I get that money’s a big play in the world of cricket, and I get that in bilateral series, but you would think that when you get to a World Cup the ICC should be a little bit fairer to everybody.’

Later, Vaughan also added, that even though he understands financial value associated with bilateral series, but ICC tournaments should not be partial and emphasized, that one team shouldn’t dominate the tournament. But in the end, he declared, ‘This tournament is purely set up for India, simple as that.’

Former Australian skipper Adam Gilchrist also supported Vaughan’s view saying, that a lot of Indian fans recognize this bias.

However, Gilchrist admitted, that Team India is a most consistent team barring South Africa. But he said, that fairness and impartiality should be there in the tournament.

Australia’s Captain Mitchell Marsh Talks About Gulbadin Naib’s Controversial Act

June 26, 2024, 3:32 pm

Captain of Australia in T20 World Cup Mitchell Marsh reacts to Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib’s controversial act.

Taking the incident humorously with cricket.com.au, Marsh said, ‘I was almost in tears laughing and at the end of the day it had no bearing on the game. So, we can laugh about it now – but gee it was funny. It was outstanding.’

Overall, Marsh laughed off the incident, but however he admitted, it was tough to watch the team deal with consecutive losses, as it resulted in Australia’s exit from the game.

However, Marsh also appreciated Afghanistan and said, that the teams deserve to be in semifinals.

‘We were all flat (when the final wicket fell). We were desperate to continue on in the tournament. But fair play to Afghanistan – they beat us and they beat Bangladesh and they deserve to be in the semi-finals.’

What Exactly Happened With Gulbadin During Bangladesh Match?

During the ongoing Afghanistan-Bangladesh match, 33-year-old Gulbadin Naib held in hamstring and suddenly dropped on the ground.

This incident happened around the time, when 12th over of Bangladesh was ongoing and coincidentally, Naib got injured seconds before the rain.

For some time, he wasn’t moving in the field. In need of treatment, he was aided by his peer Naveen-ul-Haq. However, the rain briefly interrupted the proceedings.

But eventually the rain stopped, as a result, Bangladesh’s one over was reduced. Thus, revising the target to 114.

Then, Naib after being cured of hamstring came back on the field on 13th over. In the 15th over, Naib took the wicket of Tanzim Hasan. Thus, sealing the match in Afghanistan’s favour.

But it attracted a lot of controversy in social media. But a lot of memes were also made on the incident. Later in press conference Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan spoke about the incident and said,

‘Well, he had some cramps or something. I don’t know what happened to him and I don’t know what’s going on in social media. But that doesn’t matter; it’s just a field injury, and we haven’t lost any overs. The rain came, and we just went off. It’s not something that brought a massive difference in the game. We came back on the field after 5 minutes, and there was no massive difference. For me, it’s just like a small injury, and you just have to take some time.’

T20 World Cup: Pak Cricketer Asks Umpire To Keep Their ‘Eyes Open’, Accuses Arshdeep Of Tampering

June 26, 2024, 2:39 pm

Former Pakistan cricket captains Inzamam-ul-Haq and Saleem Malik have raised allegations against Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh and criticized match officials for alleged favoritism following India’s T20 World Cup Super 9 match against Australia. Inzamam suggested that India may have tampered with the ball during the match to aid Arshdeep in achieving reverse swing, a phenomenon typically seen with older balls.

“In the 15th over, we observed reverse swing, which is unusual with a new ball. This indicates that the ball was likely tampered with around the 12th or 13th over,” Inzamam stated during a discussion on 24 News.

Malik echoed these sentiments, expressing dissatisfaction with what he perceives as preferential treatment by umpires towards certain teams. “There is a perception that umpires turn a blind eye to some teams, and India seems to benefit from this. I remember being fined for reporting a similar incident in a match against Pakistan,” Malik remarked.

Inzamam further criticized the hypothetical treatment of Pakistani players in a similar situation, implying that the response would have been more severe. “If Pakistan were in this position, there would be widespread discussion. The fact that Arshdeep’s deliveries exhibited reverse swing suggests manipulation of the ball,” he added.

Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh has been instrumental for India in the ongoing tournament, leading the team’s wicket-taking charts with impressive performances. Following his standout figures of 3 for 37 against Australia, Arshdeep credited teammate Jasprit Bumrah for creating pressure on opposing batsmen, which he believes contributed to his success.

“I owe a lot to Jassi bhai (Jasprit Bumrah) for his consistent pressure on batters. He concedes very few runs, which forces batsmen to take risks against me. My goal is to bowl my best deliveries, which often results in wickets,” Arshdeep remarked post-match.

With 15 wickets in six matches, Arshdeep Singh currently ranks second in the tournament’s leading wicket-takers list, trailing Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi by just one wicket.

Watch: Ex Pakistani Cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq Accuses India Of Ball-Tampering, Some serious….

June 26, 2024, 1:31 pm

Ex-Pakistani cricketer and former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has recently accused Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh of consistently tampering with the ball in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup.

As per Inzamam, Indian pacers manipulated the ball to ensure, that ball reverse swings.

According to him, this has been extremely beneficial for Team India. During a show in Pakistan news channel 24 News HD, both Inzamam and former Pakistan skipper, Saleem Malik, recently talked about Arshdeep’s reverse swinging deliveries in India’s super 8 clash against Australia.

Both of them claimed, it was early for the Indian pacer to reverse swing the ball. Speaking at 24 News HD, he said,

‘Arshdeep Singh, when he was bowling the 15th over, the ball was reversing. is it too early (for reverse swing) with the new ball? This means the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or the 13th over. Umpires should keep their eyes open (to spot) these things…If it was Pakistani bowlers (reverse swinging the ball) this would have been a big issue. We know reverse swing very well and if Arshdeep can come in the 15th over and start reversing the ball, it means some serious work had been done before.’

Later while backing Inzamam’s statement, malik alleged partiality, saying that for teams like India, eyes are shut.

‘Inzy, I always say this, eyes are kept shut when it comes to some teams, and India is one of those teams. I remember in Zimbabwe, when Wasim (Akram) was bowling, he made it wet, and we all were surprised at it; as in how come one side was wet, and when I went and complained I was fined quite heavily.’

The Afghanistan national team secured a historic berth in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 after a thrilling victory over Bangladesh on Tuesday. Led by captain Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s journey to the semi-finals marks their first-ever qualification at this stage in any International Cricket Council (ICC) event.

Speaking on the achievement, Rashid Khan expressed overwhelming emotions, describing the semi-final berth as a dream come true for the team. “It’s all about the way we have started the tournament. The belief came while we beat New Zealand. It’s unbelievable,” Rashid remarked.

Reflecting on their journey and preparation, Rashid acknowledged the team’s resilience and strategic clarity. “We thought 130-135 was a good total on this wicket,” he explained, recognizing their batting performance against Bangladesh. Despite a slight shortfall in runs, Rashid praised the team’s bowling strategy, which ultimately secured their victory.

“We knew they would come hard at us to chase that in 12 overs to get into the semifinal. That’s where we could take advantage,” Rashid elaborated on their bowling tactics. “If we bowled into the stumps, we had a better chance to getting them out.”

The Afghan team’s remarkable success in the T20 World Cup 2024 has garnered widespread acclaim and jubilation back home. “Back home, everyone is so happy for this big achievement,” Rashid conveyed the sentiments from Afghanistan.

As Afghanistan gears up to face South Africa in the semi-finals, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await another thrilling match in this historic T20 World Cup campaign.

2024 T20 World Cup: ‘Proud of Afghanistan’; Indians Applaud Rashid Khan’s Team’s Historic Win

June 25, 2024, 2:02 pm

The 2024 T20 World Cup has delivered yet another shocker. In an unexpected twist, Australia, the 2021 champions, have been ousted following Afghanistan’s historic victory over Bangladesh in the final Super Eight match in Kingstown on Tuesday. Afghanistan, despite posting a modest 115/5, defied expectations with a spirited bowling performance to clinch a dramatic eight-run win via the DLS method, eliminating Australia from the tournament.

Bangladesh lost wickets regularly, but Litton Das kept their hopes alive with a gritty 41-ball fifty. The match was interrupted by rain four times, leading to the DLS method’s involvement. Bangladesh’s target was revised to 114 runs in 19 overs, and with Litton anchoring the chase, they seemed on course.

However, with nine runs needed off nine balls, Afghanistan’s Naveen-Ul-Haq delivered a game-changing over. He bowled Taskin Ahmed and trapped Mustafizur Rahman LBW for a first-ball duck, sealing Afghanistan’s first-ever T20 World Cup semifinal spot and ending Australia’s campaign.

Indian cricket fans rejoiced at Afghanistan’s success, celebrating the team’s long-awaited recognition on the global stage. Social media was flooded with memes and heartfelt messages for Rashid Khan and his teammates, as Indians shared in the pride of Afghanistan’s remarkable achievement.

T20 World Cup: PCB Criticizes Team’s Behavior

June 25, 2024, 9:19 am

In the aftermath of Pakistan’s disappointing T20 World Cup performance in the USA, significant changes are anticipated within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The team failed to advance beyond the league stage, prompting PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to consider drastic measures to address the indiscipline and lackluster performance that plagued the squad.

A reliable source within the PCB revealed that Naqvi is particularly dismayed with the actions of certain senior officials, whom he holds responsible for the current state of affairs. “You can expect the PCB to lose senior management level officials and also enforce some strict policies for the players in future,” the source stated.

Central to the controversy is the decision to allow players to bring their families along for the tournament. This move has drawn significant criticism, with players reportedly bringing not just their wives and children, but also their parents and siblings, who all stayed in the team hotel. The PCB chairman’s discontent has been further fueled by revelations that some senior officials—described by the source as more fans than professionals—approved these arrangements, thereby undermining team discipline.

As part of a broader clean-up operation, the PCB is likely to introduce a stringent code of conduct for players, including a policy decision to prohibit players from having their families accompany them to major events such as ICC tournaments. This move aims to restore focus and discipline within the team, which Naqvi sees as crucial for future success.

The PCB chief has also demanded a comprehensive performance assessment report from all senior management officials. His dissatisfaction extends beyond the World Cup debacle to include the slow progress in preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy, which Pakistan is set to host early next year.

In light of these developments, the PCB is on the brink of a significant restructuring, with expectations of high-level dismissals and the imposition of stricter regulations to prevent a recurrence of the issues that contributed to Pakistan’s lackluster World Cup campaign.
