Leaked Report Reveals Imane Khelif’s Is Male; Harbhajan Reacts

November 5, 2024, 2:53 pm

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif gained significant attention during the Paris 2024 Olympics. She won a gold medal in the women’s 66kg category; however, many questioned her eligibility. As a result, several individuals labeled her as a biological man.

Leaked Medical Report Sparks Debate

Months after the Olympics, a leaked medical report reignited concerns. French journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia obtained the report, which stated that Khelif is biologically male. Specifically, the report indicated that she has internal testicles and XY chromosomes, suggesting a condition known as 5-alpha reductase insufficiency.

Remember the man who won an Olympic gold medal in women’s boxing?

His medical reports show he has XY chromosomes, male testosterone levels, testicles, & a micropenis.

But that never mattered—they believe that words & feelings make you woman, not biology.https://t.co/Ip8KLvEt6S

— Riley Gaines (@Riley_Gaines_) November 4, 2024

Moreover, medical experts from Kremlin-Bicetre Hospital in Paris and Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital in Algiers prepared this report in June 2023. The findings detailed Khelif’s biological traits, noting her internal testicles and absence of a uterus. Furthermore, an MRI reportedly showed the presence of a micropenis, according to Redux.

Reactions and Implications

In response to the report’s release, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh took to social media. He tagged the Olympics and called for them to revoke Khelif’s gold medal. This reaction reflects the growing concern over fairness in women’s sports.

The Olympics wanted you to believe this is a WOMAN.

Imane Khelif was allowed to beat up women and claim a gold medal.

Those that stood up against the injustice were called ‘racist.’

Now, medical reports reveal Imane Khelif is in fact a MALE.

Ban from International Competition

Additionally, in 2023, the International Boxing Association (IBA) took action against Khelif. They banned her from competing in the World Championship Gold Medal fight in New Delhi. This ban highlights the ongoing controversies surrounding gender and eligibility in sports.

Political Ramifications

Moreover, the controversy extended into U.S. politics. Presidential candidate Donald Trump seized on Khelif’s case in an ad campaign. He criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s gender policies and aimed to elevate the issue as a key point in his campaign. By doing so, he attempted to convert a sports controversy into a broader political issue.

Watch: European Fan Asks Neeraj Chopra for His Number

September 17, 2024, 10:02 am

Paris Olympics silver medallist Neeraj Chopra has gained a huge fan following both in India and internationally, as highlighted by a viral video where a European fan asked for his phone number.

In this undated video, Chopra was seen signing autographs for fans when two young women approached him for pictures. He happily posed with them, but as he was about to leave, one of the women made an unexpected request for his phone number. “Can I have your number?” she asked, but Chopra politely declined.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media platform X, has already garnered over half a million views and numerous comments. Though the exact location and timing of the video are unclear, some users speculated that it may have been filmed after the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium. In that event, Chopra narrowly missed first place, finishing second by just 1 centimeter.

Recently, Chopra took to his social media to reflect on his performance this season after securing silver in the tournament. He mentioned that despite his efforts, he fell short of his own expectations.

“As the 2024 season ends, I look back on everything I’ve learned—about improvement, setbacks, mentality, and more. On Monday, I injured myself during practice, and X-rays showed a fracture in the fourth metacarpal of my left hand. It was another painful challenge. However, with my team’s support, I managed to compete in Brussels,” Chopra wrote on X.

“This was my last competition of the year, and I wanted to end my season on the track. While I didn’t achieve my own goals, this year has been full of valuable lessons. I’m determined to come back stronger and fully fit for 2025. Thank you all for your support. 2024 has made me a better athlete and person. See you in 2025. Jai Hind,” he concluded.

Turkey’s Olympic Shooter Yusuf Dikec Seeks Trademark for Viral Effortless Stance

September 3, 2024, 9:45 am

Turkey’s Olympic pistol shooter Yusuf Dikec has applied to trademark his famous laid-back stance from the Paris Games, which gained viral attention globally, according to his coach Erdinc Bilgili. The decision to file with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office came after Dikec learned that others were attempting to trademark his pose without his consent.

“After we were informed of several unauthorized trademark registration attempts, we submitted our application about a week ago,” Bilgili told AFP, confirming that other claims had been rejected.

Dikec’s cool and composed stance sparked a wave of online memes, with many comparing him to James Bond. Even Elon Musk shared a video mimicking the pose. It became popular among athletes after Dikec and teammate Sevval Ilayda Tarhan won Turkey’s first silver medal in the mixed-team 10m air pistol event.

Dikec’s pose has also been copied in various sports, including by Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, who used it to celebrate a goal during a Premier League match. Turkish news outlets reported that items like T-shirts, mugs, and phone cases featuring his likeness have already gone on sale.

Dikec explained that the stance, which involves keeping his hand in his pocket, helps him maintain stability and balance during competition. “There’s nothing more to it,” he told AFP.

The Turkish Patent and Trademark Office has yet to comment on the situation.

Armand Duplantis Sets New World Record

August 26, 2024, 6:17 pm

Armand Duplantis has once again broken the world pole vault record at the Silesia Diamond League. On Sunday, he cleared 6.26 meters on his second try, surpassing his previous record of 6.25 meters set after winning gold at the Paris Olympics 2024. This is the 10th time he has broken the world record in his career. In the competition in Poland, he also cleared 6.26 meters to win, while his competitors cleared 6.00 meters.

After his impressive performance, Duplantis told Reuters, “This year I focused on the Olympics, the record just came naturally because I was in good shape. So I am not surprised with the record today, but I am thankful.” He also said, “It almost feels weird and unnatural to get so much love and support from the crowds when I compete. I see that especially in Poland. The energy in this stadium just keeps getting better every year. My first world record also came in Poland, indoors in Torun (in 2020), so I have great memories from here.”

In the Silesia competition, Sam Kendricks from the USA, who won silver at the Paris Olympics, jumped 6.00 meters but couldn’t clear 6.08 meters and finished in second place. Emmanouil Karalis from Greece, who won bronze at the Paris Olympics, came in third.

Duplantis was born in 1999 in Louisiana to an American pole vaulter father and a Swedish long jumper mother. He represents Sweden and won the U-18 title in 2015 when he was just 15. He has continued to excel in his career since then.

Here is the timeline of Duplantis’ 10 world records:

2020 – 6.17m – Torun, Poland
2020 – 6.18m – Glasgow, United Kingdom
2022 – 6.19m – Belgrade, Serbia
2022 – 6.20m – Belgrade, Serbia
2022 – 6.21m – Eugene, USA
2023 – 6.22m – Clermont-Ferrand, France
2023 – 6.23m – Eugene, USA
2024 – 6.24m – Xiamen, China
2024 – 6.25m – Saint-Denis, France
2024 – 6.26m – Chorzow, Poland

Highlights from Paris Olympics 2024

At the Paris Olympics, held at Stade de France, Duplantis thrilled the crowd by clearing 6.25 meters. After setting the record, he ran to his girlfriend in the stands. He remarked, “It’s hard to understand, honestly.” He also said, “If I don’t beat this moment in my career, then I’m pretty OK with that. I don’t think you can get much better than what just happened.”

Following the Olympics, Duplantis took a vacation in Greece. He praised the Paris crowd, saying, “I tried to clear my thoughts as much as I could. The crowd was going crazy. It was so loud in there, it sounded like an American football game. I have a little bit of experience being in a 100,000-capacity stadium, but I was never the centre of attention. [I was] just trying to channel the energy everybody was giving me, and they were giving me a lot of it. It worked out.”

Zhou earned her silver medal in the women’s balance beam event at the Paris Olympics, scoring 14.100 in the final, just 0.766 points behind her qualification score of 14.866. She was narrowly beaten for gold by Italy’s Alice D’Amato. Her charming moment during the medal ceremony, where she playfully bit her medal for the cameras, also went viral, endearing her further to fans worldwide.

The video of Zhou assisting at her parents’ restaurant prompted praise from netizens for her down-to-earth nature and dedication, applauding her for staying grounded despite her Olympic success. Zhou was one of five Chinese gymnasts at the Paris Olympics, along with Luo Huan, Ou Yushan, Qiu Qiyuan, and Zhang Yihan. The Chinese women’s gymnastics team earned two medals: Zhou’s silver in the balance beam and Qiu Qiyuan’s silver in the uneven bars.

Aman Sehrawat’s village faces neglect despite his Olympic Success

August 16, 2024, 3:03 am

In the wake of his triumphant victory at the Olympics, wrestler Aman Sehrawat has brought global acclaim to his native Birhor village in Jhajjar district. However, this newfound spotlight has also exposed the dire state of infrastructure in the village, which continues to suffer from inadequate road connectivity and unreliable electricity.

Sehrawat, who clinched a bronze medal in wrestling Paris Olympics in 57 kg weight category, has become a source of immense pride for his village. Yet, his family and fellow villagers are calling attention to the harsh realities they face daily. During a recent media visit, a video capturing the heartfelt plea of Aman’s aunt went viral, drawing widespread attention to the village’s plight.

In her emotional appeal, Aman’s aunt Shakuntla highlighted the severe lack of basic amenities. “Aman’s victory is a moment of pride for us all. His journey was fraught with difficulties, and despite his success, our village remains in dire need of essential services,” she said. Her comments reflect a broader sentiment among the villagers who are grappling with substandard living conditions.
His aunt’s plea was straightforward: “We are asking the government to address our urgent needs. Our village is plagued by irregular electricity and poor road conditions. For instance, Aman’s younger brother Amit struggles to attend his academy because the roads are impassable during the rains,” she explained.
Aman’s early life was marked by hardship; he lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his extended family in a modest dwelling. The house, situated in the fields, is devoid of proper road access, making basic tasks and transportation a significant challenge.
The Congress party has swiftly seized the opportunity to critique the BJP government’s performance in rural development.

Congress leaders have criticized the current administration for its failure to address the infrastructural deficiencies in rural areas, using Aman Sehrawat’s story to highlight broader issues of neglect.
The local issues in Aman’s residence in Birhor village—lack of reliable electricity, inadequate road infrastructure, and poor transportation—are emblematic of broader challenges facing rural India. Despite its remote location, the village’s spotlight due to Sehrawat’s success has amplified these concerns, compelling a reassessment of the government’s rural development policies.
Meanwhile, Aman was given a promotion by the Northern Railways on Thursday. The 21-year-old wrestler was promoted to the post of officer on special duty (OSD). With this, he became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal.
The video sparks the debate on social media raising a call for immediate government intervention in improving basic amenities for rural areas like Birhor becomes increasingly urgent. The hope is that the attention generated by Aman’s achievements will catalyze much-needed change, ensuring that the infrastructure challenges faced by his village are addressed promptly.

Vinesh Phogat Heads Home from Paris Olympics; CAS Verdict Expected Soon

August 13, 2024, 12:47 pm

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat departed the Paris Olympic Games village on Monday after the closing ceremony of the 33rd Summer Games. She is set to return to New Delhi on Tuesday, the same day the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to deliver its long-awaited ruling on her request for a joint silver medal. This appeal follows her disqualification from the Paris Olympics.

A week ago, Vinesh made headlines by defeating the reigning champion and world number one, Yui Susaki, in her Olympic debut, becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final. However, she was disqualified from the women’s 50kg freestyle final the next morning due to being 100 grams over the weight limit during the weigh-in.

Devastated by this turn of events and suffering from dehydration after a grueling attempt to shed three kilograms gained during her bouts, Vinesh lost consciousness and was treated at a polyclinic within the Games village. Following her recovery, she filed an appeal with CAS, seeking to be awarded a joint silver medal alongside Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who replaced her in the final after her disqualification.

India is hopeful for a favorable decision from CAS, but sources have revealed that while Vinesh’s condition has improved, she has yet to speak with anyone. “Vinesh is feeling a little better now and has started eating a bit, but she is not talking to anyone yet. We are all supporting her,” sources told India Today.

Vinesh had remained in Paris for the CAS appeal, which was accepted earlier last week. She participated virtually in the hearing held on Friday, represented by senior counsels Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania. The case was heard by sole Arbitrator Dr. Annabelle Bennett from Australia. Although CAS initially planned to announce the verdict on Saturday, the deadline has been extended to Tuesday at 9:30 pm IST.

‘India’ Takes Center Stage In Paris 2024 Break Dancing: Here’s The Twist

August 12, 2024, 7:53 pm

At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the name “India” made a notable impact in the Breaking (break dancing) arena, despite the country not sending any athletes to compete in the sport. The spotlight on the name came not from a competitor representing India, but rather from a 16-year-old dancer from The Hague, Netherlands, known as India Sardjoe.

In an unexpected twist, India Sardjoe, who performs under the moniker “B-Girl India,” captured attention by winning the first-ever breaking battle at the Olympics. The official Khel India account celebrated the milestone, stating, “India wins the first match in Break dancing History. Yes, you read it right! India Sardjoe, known as ‘B-Girl India’ from the Netherlands, beat refugee team member B-Girl Talash in the first-ever breaking battle at the Olympics.”

India Sardjoe chose to compete under her real name, a rare decision among dancers who often adopt pseudonyms. In an interview with Olympics.com, she explained, “Many people have asked why I don’t use a B-Girl name, but since I was young, it’s always been this way. Nobody gave me a crazy name or started calling me something else. I wouldn’t change it for anything, and forever it will be just India.”

Her choice to stay true to her name highlights her individuality and authenticity both in and out of the competition, setting a distinct example in the world of competitive breaking.

Trump Claims Credit For Securing 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

August 12, 2024, 4:15 pm

Former US President Donald Trump has claimed credit for securing the 2028 Summer Olympics for Los Angeles. In a recent Truth Social post, Trump asserted that as President-Elect, he played a crucial role in winning the bid for the games, despite strong competition from other countries. Trump’s statement revisits the 2017 bidding process, where Los Angeles won the rights to host the 2028 Olympics, while Paris was awarded the 2024 Games. Trump’s involvement was highlighted by his efforts to support Los Angeles’ bid during a time when IOC President Thomas Bach visited him at the White House.

Accusations Against Obama

Trump also accused his predecessor, Barack Obama, of being unsupportive of the bid. Trump alleged that Obama declined to engage with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which he claims impacted Chicago’s unsuccessful bid for the 2016 Games. Trump argued that the IOC requires strong backing from the US President to secure a successful bid, asserting that his own efforts were instrumental in bringing the Olympics to Los Angeles.

Criticism of Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony

In addition to his claims about the 2028 Olympics, Trump criticized the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Speaking to Laura Ingraham on FOX News, Trump described the ceremony as “disgraceful,” referencing a scene involving drag performers and dancers that some compared to Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” Trump promised that if elected president again, he would apply pressure to ensure a more traditional and respectable presentation for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Woman Kisses Tom Cruise During Olympics Closing Ceremony, Sparks Controversy

Tom Cruise stole the show at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony with an unforgettable stunt. The Hollywood star, aged 62, rappelled down from the roof of the Stade de France, thrilling the crowd as he descended into the stadium. Once he landed, Cruise mingled with fans, and one enthusiastic woman kissed him on the cheek while capturing the moment on her phone. This footage has since gone viral.

The incident sparked debate online, with many criticizing the lack of respect for personal space. Social media users questioned the appropriateness of the kiss, with some suggesting that reactions would be different if the genders were reversed.

One user on X expressed concern, saying, “Would hate to see what would happen if the roles were reversed.” Another questioned, “Did she ask for consent?” and pointed out that, “If that was a female celebrity, there’d be uproar.”

Others weighed in, noting the disrespect for personal space, with one comment stating, “If it had been a man with a woman, people would already be looking for all his information to burn him alive.”

The ceremony, which concluded a thrilling two and a half weeks of Olympic competition, featured a skydiving Tom Cruise and performances from Grammy winner Billie Eilish, among others. In his Ethan Hunt persona, Cruise captivated the audience with his descent to the iconic “Mission Impossible” theme. After mingling with the athletes, he took the Olympic flag from gymnast Simone Biles, attached it to a motorcycle, and revved out of the arena.

Mukesh Ambani Takes Selfies with Fans After Olympics Game

August 12, 2024, 3:17 pm

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, was recently seen strolling the streets of Paris after attending the France vs. USA basketball game at the Paris Olympics. The billionaire was accompanied by his son Akash Ambani and daughter-in-law Shloka Mehta as they left the sports venue.

Ambani was walking with minimal security and happily took selfies with fans who approached him. A video shared by French paparazzi shows him smiling and patiently posing for photos. He was dressed casually in a white sweatshirt and sneakers.

In the footage, Mukesh Ambani was with a small group that included Akash, Shloka, Shloka’s sister Dia Mehta Jatia, and a few friends, along with some staff and security.

The Ambani family is in Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Mukesh and his wife Nita Ambani are staying at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris, where they have been photographed frequently over the past two weeks. Nita Ambani, chairperson of the Reliance Foundation and a member of the International Olympic Committee, played a key role in establishing India House in Paris, where visitors can explore Indian culture, art, and cuisine.

Earlier, the Ambanis were joined by their younger son Anant Ambani and his wife Radhika Merchant, who had recently married in Mumbai. After Paris, the couple traveled to Costa Rica and Panama for their honeymoon. Their daughter Isha Ambani was also seen at the Paris Olympics with her husband Anand Piramal.

Mukesh and Nita Ambani were later joined by their elder son, Akash Ambani, who was also in Paris for the closing ceremonies of the Olympics.

PT Usha Defends IOA Medical Team, Blames Athletes for Weight Management

August 12, 2024, 2:44 pm

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha responded to the criticism aimed at the IOA medical team, particularly Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, by stating that in sports like wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, and judo, it is the athlete’s responsibility to manage their weight.

Usha’s remarks follow the controversy surrounding Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from her gold-medal match in the women’s 50kg freestyle category at the Paris Olympics for being 100 grams overweight during the morning weigh-in. Vinesh, who became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final last Tuesday, was devastated by the disqualification and announced her retirement the next day. The incident led to a blame game in India, with some members of Parliament accusing Dr. Pardiwala and his team of negligence, while former IOA Chief Narendra Batra suggested Vinesh’s diet might have contributed to the disqualification.

In a statement, Usha emphasized, “The responsibility of weight management in sports like wrestling, weightlifting, boxing, and judo lies with the athletes and their coaches, not with the IOA-appointed Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and his team. The criticism directed at the IOA medical team, especially Dr. Pardiwala, is unjustified and deserves condemnation.”

Usha further clarified that most athletes have their own support staff, and the IOA’s medical team, established just a few months before the Paris Games, was intended to assist athletes with recovery and injury management.

“Each Indian athlete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in these sports had their own support teams, which have been working with them for many years,” Usha explained. “The IOA appointed a medical team a few months ago to aid in the recovery and injury management of athletes during and after their competitions. This team was also there to support athletes who didn’t have their own nutritionists and physiotherapists.”

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to announce its final verdict on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for a joint silver medal on August 13.

Olympic Hero Arshad Nadeem Gifted Buffalo By Father-In-Law: The Tradition Behind It

August 12, 2024, 1:37 pm

Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem recently received a unique and meaningful gift from his father-in-law, Muhammad Nawaz—a buffalo. This traditional gift was given in celebration of Nadeem’s remarkable achievement in the javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics, where he made history with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters.

In their rural community, gifting a buffalo is considered a highly valuable and honorable gesture. Nawaz, who lives in a village and is the father of four sons and three daughters, explained that the gift was deeply rooted in their traditions and reflected Nadeem’s strong connection to his rural upbringing. Despite his international success, Nadeem continues to live with his parents and brothers in Khanewal, Punjab, maintaining close ties to his roots.

Nawaz’s daughter, Ayesha, is married to Arshad Nadeem, and the couple has three children—two sons and a daughter. Reflecting on the past, Nawaz recalled how, six years ago, Nadeem was a man of limited means, yet his passion for javelin was unwavering. “Six years ago, when we decided to marry our daughter to Nadeem, he was doing small jobs and running errands but was extremely passionate about his sport,” Nawaz told PTI. “He would constantly practice throwing the javelin at home and in the fields.”

Nawaz expressed immense pride in his son-in-law’s achievements, emphasizing Nadeem’s respectful and humble nature. He also mentioned that two of Nadeem’s children have now started attending the local primary school in the village, while the youngest son is still very young.

This traditional gift from Nadeem’s father-in-law symbolizes the pride and honor felt by his family and village. Muhammad Nawaz’s gesture of gifting a buffalo highlights the deep respect and value embedded in their culture, further illustrating Nadeem’s strong bond with his roots.

Nadeem’s journey from a small village in Punjab to becoming an Olympic champion showcases not only his dedication but also the unwavering support from his community.

Neeraj Chopra’s Rs 50 Lakh Omega Watch Steals the Show at Paris Olympics

August 10, 2024, 10:46 am

India’s renowned javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra, may have missed out on the gold medal at the men’s javelin throw final at the Stade de France, but he secured a silver medal with his best throw of the season at 89.45 meters. This achievement has filled his supporters and the nation with pride.

Chopra, who recently became the brand ambassador for Omega, was seen wearing an Omega Seamaster AquaTerra 150M watch, valued at Rs 50 lakhs. The watch, which he wore during the Paris Olympics 2024 qualifiers, features a titanium case, a telescopic crown, and domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystals. It also has a gray dial with AquaTerra stripes, a Seamaster logo, and is paired with a black strap. With a water-resistant design and a 72-hour power reserve, the watch is priced at Rs 52,13,200 on Omega’s official website.

Neeraj Chopra’s role as Omega’s Sports Brand Ambassador makes him the first Indian track and field athlete to represent the brand. Omega has been the official timekeeper for the Olympics since 1932, marking its 31st tenure this year.

Chopra, known for his impressive collection of watches, competed fiercely against Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won the gold medal with a throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record. Chopra’s silver medal came after a series of four consecutive fouls, but his final throw remained a strong performance in the competition.

PM Modi dials Neeraj Chopra following Paris Olympics silver win

August 9, 2024, 4:48 pm

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Olympic and World Championships gold medalist Neeraj Chopra following his silver medal win at the ongoing Paris Olympics and congratulated him for his second successive medal at the marquee event.

PM Modi also enquired about Neeraj’s injury and lauded the sportsman spirit showed by his mother Saroj, who congratulated Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem for getting the gold and setting an Olympic record.

The Prime Minister said during the phone call, “You made the country proud again. Even late at night at 1 AM, people were watching you in action, looking at you with hope.”
He lauded Neeraj for managing to deliver consistent performances despite his recent fitness issues.

Neeraj said that he could not push himself fully because of his injuries and the competition was tough. “I am still happy to get a medal for my country in these circumstances. There are ups and downs in sport,” he added.

hopra fell short of retaining his gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the ongoing marquee event securing silver with a best throw of 89.45 meters.

Nadeem won gold with a throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record and surpassing Denmark’s Andreas Thorkildsen’s mark from Beijing 2008. Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters.

Earlier, Chopra had achieved a throw of 89.34 meters in the Group B qualification round, his second-best all-time throw. Despite a competitive rivalry with Nadeem, where Chopra led 9-0 in their head-to-head matchups, Nadeem’s throw of 90.18 meters at the 2022 Commonwealth Games exceeded Chopra’s top effort.

Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured the bronze with an 88.54 meters throw.
Following the failure to defend his gold medal, Neeraj expressed dissatisfaction with his performance and revealed that the last two to three years were not good for him in terms of fitness.

Neeraj-Arshad Bond Resembles India-Pakistan Sporting Ties

August 9, 2024, 12:44 pm

In an unforgettable showdown at the Olympic Games in Paris, millions across two nations divided by a fraught border stayed up well past midnight, riveted by a javelin duel for the ages. The men’s javelin gold medal switched hands—and countries—with Pakistan’s unassuming Arshad Nadeem seizing the ultimate prize from India’s celebrated champion, Neeraj Chopra. Nadeem’s victory, marked by a series of powerful throws and a new Games record, was a testament to his skill and determination. Though Chopra was bested, he remained unbeaten in spirit.

As the two great rivals embraced moments after Nadeem’s final 91-meter throw, the sight was moving. They may represent nations with contrasting ideologies and frequent political clashes, but on that field, they were united by a deep bond of competitive spirit and mutual respect. The camaraderie between Nadeem and Chopra was evident, transcending mere professional respect. Their parallel careers have fostered a profound friendship, which, while surprising to some, is a natural extension of the shared experiences in high-stakes sports.

A common misconception about intense sports rivalries is that competitors must harbor some animosity. However, as seen in the iconic tennis rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, respect and friendship can flourish even among the fiercest competitors. Federer views Nadal as the younger brother he never had, while Nadal considers Federer a great friend, role model, and inspiration.

This transcending of geographical boundaries is also exemplified by the successful tennis partnership of Rohan Bopanna from India and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi from Pakistan. Dubbed the “Indo-Pak Express,” they were one of the most formidable doubles teams on the professional circuit, reaching the US Open final in 2010. Their success was rooted not only in their on-court synergy but also in their off-court friendship.

Cricket, too, has many tales of cross-border friendships, despite the infrequent encounters between Indian and Pakistani players in recent years. Babar Azam, for instance, looks up to Virat Kohli and takes every opportunity to learn from him, although the limited interactions make it challenging to build deep relationships.

Those familiar with India-Pakistan cricket history recall a time when, despite political tensions, the sport served as a bridge for peace and diplomacy. Javed Miandad, for example, was a notorious irritant on the field but a bundle of fun off it, often leaving Indian players in stitches with his antics.

The legendary Virender Sehwag was beloved by Pakistani players for his fearless approach to batting. During his iconic 309 in Multan in 2004, he famously bantered with Shoaib Akhtar, leading to laughter all around, even from Akhtar himself.

Acts of generosity across the border also abound. In 1989, when Mohammad Azharuddin was struggling with form, the great Zaheer Abbas offered him a small tip that revitalized his career. Decades later, Azhar returned the favor by advising Younis Khan, helping him overcome a lean patch in England with a double-century.

And who can forget the friendship between Ravi Shastri and Wasim Akram? They may have headlined the “Shaz & Waz” show on television, but their bond goes far deeper than the screen. As close as brothers, they personify the idea that friendship knows no borders.

Gold Medalist Arshad Nadeem’s Village Crowdfunded for His Javelin Purchase

August 9, 2024, 11:42 am

Pakistani singer Ali Zafar has offered a cash prize of one million rupees to Arshad Nadeem, the javelin thrower who clinched the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This gesture highlights the financial challenges Nadeem faced throughout his journey to becoming an Olympic champion.

Nadeem’s father, Muhammad Ashraf, shared the struggles his son endured, revealing how villagers and relatives would pool their resources to help Nadeem travel for training and competitions. “People have no idea how Arshad got to this place today,” he said. The family, hailing from Khanewal in Pakistan’s Punjab province, faced significant hardships, with Nadeem even lacking the funds to buy a javelin at one point.

On Thursday, Nadeem made history with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters at the Paris Olympics, turning the tables on India’s Neeraj Chopra, who had won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Despite his immense talent, Nadeem’s path to Olympic glory was filled with obstacles, including injuries, inadequate training facilities, and limited financial support.

Nadeem comes from a humble background as the son of a construction worker. His family often struggled to meet basic needs, yet his community’s unwavering support helped him pursue his dreams. The villagers’ contributions covered essential expenses like travel, accommodation, equipment, and coaching fees, allowing Nadeem to compete in various cities.

His father attributes Nadeem’s success to the faith and generosity of the villagers, who supported his ambitions in a country where cricket dominates the sports scene. Many on the internet have noted that Nadeem’s achievement at the Paris Olympics came despite the lack of support from Pakistan, rather than because of it.

Nadeem’s talent was evident from a young age, but his journey to the top was far from easy. After winning gold at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, becoming the first Pakistani athlete to do so in 60 years, Nadeem’s career gained momentum. Last year, he also won a silver medal at the World Championship.

Interestingly, Nadeem received help from his rival, Neeraj Chopra, who supported his request for a javelin replacement earlier this year. Before the javelin throw event at the Olympics, Ashraf had expressed hope, saying, “If he wins a medal, it will be a triumph for everyone in our village and our country.”

When Nadeem achieved his historic feat, his village of Khanewal erupted in celebration. Nadeem has now become the only Asian javelin thrower to surpass the 90-meter mark three times, solidifying his place in history.

Bollywood Applauds Neeraj Chopra’s Silver Medal Triumph at Paris Olympics

August 9, 2024, 11:05 am

India is filled with pride as Neeraj Chopra secured a silver medal in the men’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics. Social media platforms, from Instagram to X, were flooded with congratulatory messages for his achievement at the prestigious event. Bollywood celebrities also expressed their admiration.

Actor Vicky Kaushal praised Chopra’s performance, saying, “Season best performance. You always make us proud, brother Neeraj Chopra.” R Madhavan not only congratulated Chopra but also praised Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won gold, noting that “the sport won today.” Rakul Preet Singh also celebrated Neeraj’s achievement, writing, “Woohoo! Neeraj, you have done it again! Congratulations on securing your second Olympic medal! India beams with pride.”

Chopra’s best throw of 89.45 meters came on his second attempt, but four consecutive fouls hindered his chances for gold. Despite his strong qualification round performance, he couldn’t surpass his season-best in the final.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem set a new Olympic record with a 92.97-meter throw, winning gold. After the match, Neeraj acknowledged the tough competition, stating, “Today was Arshad’s day. I gave my best, but some things need to be addressed and worked on.” He also expressed optimism about India’s future Olympic prospects. So far, the Indian team has won five medals at the Paris Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra Hints At Surgery For Chronic Injury After Winning Silver At Paris Olympics

August 9, 2024, 9:00 am

The win of the silver at the Paris Olympics added to his earlier gold, Neeraj Chopra found himself in introspective mood rather than celebratory. Beyond the historic gold-silver double, Chopra faces more immediate concerns.

Chopra has been plighted by an old groin problem which has plagued his performance in this meet and made him unable to pull off throws that the likes of gold medallist Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who created an Olympic record with a 92.97m throw, are capable of.

Chopra admitted that it is about time that he got the problem sorted out seriously now, and he would discuss with doctors to see whether any surgical solution is possible. “I will talk to my team and take a decision accordingly,” Chopra said after the final. He, however, felt confident as he had hurled the javelin to 89.94m—his personal best—and still felt that there was much left in him.

It is due to this groin problem that Chopra has had to sit out a few events this year and pulled out even from the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He revealed how management of this injury often shifts his focus away from technique work and onto the management of pain. “Doctors told me to go for surgery last year. I’m stretching myself till now. There have been treatments since, but we will have to take a big decision,” Chopra noted.

He was happy that this had happened to Nadeem, who has been facing injuries himself and had made a comeback this season. Chopra feels that in their game, managing injuries is pretty important, and he admired the resilience of Nadeem.

He does not stray far from the point: “Medals are a different thing. But jo ek distance hai mere andar. after the 2018 Asian Games, when I threw 88m, I feel there is a better throw left in me. Kaafi kuch hai andaar. Karenge bilkul.”

‘I Felt Really, Really Sad’: Neeraj Chopra Reacts To Vinesh Phogat’s Disqualification

August 9, 2024, 7:41 am

On Wednesday morning, while at the breakfast table in the Athletes’ Village, Neeraj Chopra learned about Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification, which occurred just a day before his final event. Vinesh Phogat, who had secured a confirmed medal for India in the 50kg women’s division, was disqualified after being found to be around 100 grams over the weight limit, placing her last after she had fought for a gold medal.

Neeraj Chopra, who earned India’s best performance so far at the Paris Games with his silver medal, expressed his deep sorrow for Vinesh Phogat, although he had not yet spoken to her.

Vinesh had defeated Japan’s Yui Susaki in her opening match on Tuesday morning, just before Chopra took the field for his qualification at Stade de France. When Neeraj heard about Vinesh’s victory, he was thrilled, but his joy turned to despair the following day.

“Whatever she has done here, woh ek misaal hai. To beat Yui Susaki is in itself such a big thing. And after that, whatever she has been through, I don’t understand the rules of wrestling that well. But, she was on her way confidently to gold. But then, this (disqualification) happened. I felt really, really sad,” Neeraj Chopra said.

Neeraj, a two-time Olympic medallist, highlighted the inspiration in Vinesh Phogat’s journey to her third Olympics, especially considering the physical challenges she faced throughout her career.

“Jo Vineshji ki journey rahi hai, everyone knows how tough it has been. In 2016 (Rio Olympics), to overcome such a dangerous injury, and then in 2020 to have more injuries. She has been through so many personal setbacks,” Neeraj Chopra said.

He further added, “And for her to come back from that, recover from it, get herself to this position and be mentally strong from all that…it was going so well. Phir pata nahi, bhagwan ko kuch aur hi manzoor tha (maybe God wished something else for her). But we know that whatever she has done, it is great.”

Neeraj Chopra Aims to Repeat Historic Gold Medal Achievement at Paris Olympics

August 8, 2024, 2:20 pm

Star India javelin thrower and World Championships gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be aiming to repeat his Tokyo 2020 heroics to retain his title at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Thursday.

Chopra registered a huge throw of 89.34 metres in Group B of the men’s javelin throw qualification round at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday and made his way into the finals.
The final will be played on Thursday at 11:55 pm IST. He successfully breached the qualification mark of 84.00 m.

However, the competition would be fierce as the final will feature the likes of Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, the 2020 silver medalist, Julian Weber of Germany, the 2022 European Champion and the two-time world champion, Anderson Peters from Grenada.

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who is also one of Neeraj’s closest rivals, joined the Indian star for the men’s javelin final with his season-best throw of 86.59 m. Arshad and Neeraj have developed a healthy rivalry over the years, with Neeraj dominating the head-to-head record 9-0. However, Arshad’s best effort of 90.18 m in the 2022 Commonwealth Games is ahead of Neeraj’s top effort.

Chopra’s first attempt during the qualification was his all-time second-best throw at a men’s javelin event, with his top throw coming at Stockholm Diamond League 2022 with a distance of 89.94 m. It was also the 26-year-old’s best throw in any qualification round. Now, the Indian will be aiming to touch the much-talked-about distance of 90.00 m during the final and retain his gold.

After his throw at the qualification, Chopra laid out the differences between playing at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and in Paris this year and also said that defending his title serves as a motivation to him.

Speaking on JioCinema, Neeraj said on Tuesday that he threw the javelin in the sunshine at Tokyo, but it is much cooler and less humid at Paris.

“In Tokyo, we threw in the sunshine and here it’s a bit cooler and the humidity is much lesser. Tokyo was much warmer and more humid than Paris. The big difference is that there are crowds here,” said Neeraj.

On the challenge of defending his title, Neeraj stated: “Being defending champion is motivation and I need to be prepared. The mind should be focused on doing the job at hand.”

Talking about his throw during the qualification round, Neeraj said that though his throw was good, the final remains the “real deal”.

“Final will be a cracker, the Tokyo final mark has already been surpassed by qualification. We were a little relaxed today. The burden and pressure will be much more in the final,” he added.

Chopra also discussed his injury concerns and said: “I have had a few issues with my groin & that is why I did not take part in a lot of competitions. It is important to stay fit and reach the final.”

Ahead of the final clash, Neeraj’s mother Saroj said to ANI, “The preparations are going very well. He has worked very hard. We are hoping for gold. We are all happy.”

His father Satish Kumar also said, “We are all very excited. Neeraj will give his best to live up to the expectations. Everyone in the village is happy and waiting for his match…”

Chopra won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw competition at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2024 athletics meet in Turku, Finland, earlier in June.

The Indian registered a throw of modest 85.97 m, in his third attempt to clinch the top podium. Neeraj Chopra, the reigning world and Olympic champion, was competing in his third event of the year.

On the road to defend his crown at the Paris 2024 Olympics later this year, Neeraj started his season with a second-place finish at the Doha Diamond League on May 10 with an 88.36m throw.

He then logged a modest 82.27 m to bag the gold medal at the Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar five days later. It was his first competition in India since becoming an Olympic champion.

Neeraj was also scheduled to compete at the Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meet in Czechia during late May but did not participate as a precautionary measure after a muscle tweak during a training session. (ANI)

Vinesh Phogat’s Retirement Announcement

Phogat had advanced to the gold medal match by defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi-finals on Tuesday night, and she was set to face Sarah Ann Hildebrandt from the United States. However, on Wednesday, she was disqualified after being found 100 grams overweight during the mandatory weigh-in.

Earlier that day, Phogat announced her retirement from international wrestling, citing a lack of strength to continue. In an emotional message on social media, she wrote: “Mother wrestling won against me, I lost… Your dreams and my courage are shattered. I don’t have any more strength now. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024. I will forever be indebted to all of you. Please forgive me.

The Incident

On August 3, Ammirati’s Olympic hopes were dashed when an unforeseen issue occurred during his pole vault attempt. As he launched himself into the air, his penis struck the crossbar, causing it to fall and ultimately resulting in his elimination from the competition. The incident led to a flurry of social media activity, with many users highlighting the awkward and unexpected nature of the event.

Ammirati’s Response

In a now-deleted TikTok video, Anthony Ammirati humorously addressed his newfound fame. The clip showed him dining alone with a dejected expression, and he made a sarcastic comment about his sudden internet fame overshadowing his athletic achievements. The French caption read, “POV: You make more buzz for your package than for your performances.” Despite the humor, Ammirati later chose not to continue with the light-hearted approach, opting to focus on his performance and training.

Public Reaction

Social media users quickly reacted to the video, with comments ranging from jokes about Ammirati’s misfortune to playful remarks about his unorthodox fame. One user commented, “If you’re going to be famous for losing a pole vault, this is the way to do it.” Another quipped, “His pole certainly vaulted.” Many noted the contrast between his viral moment and the Olympic medal he did not win.

Ammirati’s Disappointment

Reflecting on his Olympic performance, Ammirati expressed his frustration over the missed opportunity. He noted, “I’m a bit gutted because I didn’t miss anything on the third attempt at 5.70 meters. What I did miss was a bit of jumping in training to fine-tune the settings.”

As Ammirati navigates the aftermath of his viral moment, his story serves as a reminder of how unexpected events can capture global attention, sometimes overshadowing even the most impressive athletic feats.

Vinesh Phogat Announces Retirement Following Paris Olympics Disqualification

August 8, 2024, 8:03 am

Vinesh Phogat has announced her retirement from wrestling following her disqualification in the 50 kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics.

She shared her decision in an emotional post on X on Thursday morning.
“Maa kushti (wrestling) won against me, I lost. Forgive me, your dream and my courage have been broken. I don’t have any more strength now. Goodbye Wrestling 2001-2024. I will always be indebted to you all for forgiveness,” Phogat said in her post.

अलविदा कुश्ती 2001-2024 ?

— Vinesh Phogat (@Phogat_Vinesh) August 7, 2024

Phogat had advanced to the gold medal bout by defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi-finals on Tuesday night.

She was set to compete against the United States’ Sarah Ann Hildebrandt for the gold medal but was disqualified on Wednesday for breaching the weight limit.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha expressed her shock and disappointment over Phogat’s disqualification. She confirmed that while Phogat is physically and medically fine, she is disappointed. Usha noted that the support staff is actively working to help Phogat manage her weight.

“After hearing the news that Vinesh Phogat is disqualified, I am shocked and disappointed. I had come here to meet Vinesh; she is physically and medically okay. Mentally, she is disappointed. Our support staff is with her, trying their best to help her reduce weight,” PT Usha said.

Earlier, Dinshaw Pardiwala, Chief Medical Officer of the Indian Olympic contingent, revealed that Phogat exceeded the weight limit by 2.7 kg after her semi-final bout. He added that efforts were made to reduce her weight by restricting her food and water intake.
Phogat also appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) following her disqualification on Wednesday.

According to an IOA source, Phogat has requested the CAS to award her the silver medal. The verdict is expected on Thursday morning.

“Vinesh Phogat has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against her disqualification, asking for the silver medal. CAS will give its verdict tomorrow morning,” the source had told ANI. (ANI)

Vinesh Phogat Appeals Olympic Disqualification; Verdict Expected Today

August 8, 2024, 1:38 am

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) against her disqualification from the women’s 50kg wrestling final at the Paris Olympics 2024. The appeal comes after Vinesh was barred from competing in the final due to a weight discrepancy of just 100 grams.

Details of the Disqualification

Phogat, who had won her semi-final bout with a 5-0 margin, was poised to make history as the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic final. However, on the morning of the final, she weighed 50.1kg, slightly over the allowed weight limit of 50kg. Despite efforts to shed the excess weight, including intense training and sauna sessions, Vinesh was unable to meet the required weight and was consequently disqualified.

CAS Appeal and Potential Outcome

Vinesh has requested that she be awarded the silver medal if CAS rules in her favor. The CAS is expected to deliver its final verdict by the morning of August 8. Should the court rule in favor of Vinesh, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will have to award her a joint silver medal.

What is CAS?

The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) is an independent institution established in 1984 to resolve sports-related disputes through arbitration or mediation. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, CAS has courts in New York City and Sydney, with temporary courts set up for major events like the Olympics. It operates independently of sports organizations and provides a specialized forum for resolving legal disputes in sports.

Background on Phogat’s Disqualification

The disqualification of Vinesh Phogat has sparked a focus on weight-cutting practices in combat sports. India’s Chief Medical Officer, Dinshaw Pardiwala, noted that Phogat made significant efforts to meet the weight requirement, including a rigorous training regime and adjustments to her clothing. Despite these efforts, she remained slightly over the weight limit, resulting in her disqualification from the final.

As the world waits for the CAS decision, Vinesh Phogat’s appeal highlights the intense pressures and challenges faced by athletes at the highest levels of competition.
