The moment, shared widely on social media, showed Rohit embracing Siraj before handing over the commemorative ring, acknowledging the fast bowler’s consistency and firepower on cricket’s grandest T20 stage. Siraj played a crucial role in India’s campaign, delivering with both the new ball and at the death, helping the team reach the latter stages of the tournament.

Key Role of Siraj in India’s World Cup Campaign

Spirited team performances and tactical maturity marked India’s run in the 2024 edition, as Siraj emerged as a vital cog in the bowling attack during the first half of the tournament played in America. Known for his aggression, discipline, and ability to generate swing in tough conditions, the Hyderabad-born speedster picked up key wickets in the powerplay overs and regularly put pressure on opposition batters.

His economy rate and wicket-taking abilities in crunch matches helped India tighten their grip in must-win scenarios. Experts and fans alike credited his efforts as one of the cornerstones of India’s bowling unit in the tournament.

A Gesture of Leadership and Camaraderie by Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma reportedly initiated the ring presentation as part of a growing tradition in the Indian dressing room that recognises individual brilliance to foster camaraderie and motivation. Looking Ahead

With eyes now on future assignments, this symbolic gesture has only strengthened the unity within the squad. For Siraj, the recognition marks another milestone in what has been a meteoric rise in international cricket.

As the Indian team builds towards the next global challenge, moments like these underscore the emotional and cultural richness that continues to define Indian cricket.

This was due to the delayed departure caused by Hurricane Beryl. After receiving a hero’s welcome, Rohit and his team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 10 a.m. Following the breakfast meeting, they will head to Mumbai. In the evening, there will be a road show from Nariman Point in an open bus, culminating in a felicitation event at Wankhede Stadium to celebrate their victory.

Riyan Parag Misplaced Passport And Phones, Before Travelling For Zimbabwe

Assam all-rounder Riyan Parag misplaced his passport and two phones just before joining the Indian cricket squad for their tour of Zimbabwe. The young cricketer, who earned his maiden call-up to the national team, managed to recover all his belongings just in time to catch the Harare-bound flight with his teammates. “I was so excited that I forgot my passport and my phones. But I have them now,” Parag said in a video shared by the BCCI.

The Indian team, led by Shubman Gill, gathered in Mumbai on Monday night before departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Gill, who was part of the T20 World Cup squad as a travelling reserve, joined the team from New York after a brief break. Joining Parag on their maiden call-ups are Abhishek Sharma and Tushar Deshpande. Deshpande described the experience as surreal and a dream come true. “Being part of the national setup is slowly sinking in. It’s a very special feeling,” he said. Sharma echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing his lifelong dream of playing for India. “I didn’t expect my debut to come in Zimbabwe, but it’s a huge honor. The support from my family and teammates has been overwhelming,” Sharma noted.

Meanwhile, travelling reserves Khaleel Ahmed and Rinku Singh remain in Barbados, with no replacements named for the Zimbabwe series. India vs England, T20 World Cup 2024: Will 2024 Semi-final Vindicate 2022 Defeat?

June 24, 2024, 1:53 pm

With England finishing second in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Group 2 after South Africa’s narrow win over West Indies, England is likely to face the unbeaten Indian side, provided India tops Group 1 of Super 8.

India will play Australia tonight, and a victory will secure their top position in the group, likely ending Australia’s tournament run. If India wins, they will face England in the second semi-final at Providence Stadium, Guyana, on June 27 (8:00 PM IST).

India vs. England T20 World Cup 2024 Second Semi-final

This match promises to be a thrilling contest with defending champions England taking on favorites India for a spot in the final, reminiscent of the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final.

England’s 2022 T20 World Cup Semi-final Victory Over India

On November 10, 2022, England faced India at the Adelaide Oval in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. England, led by Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, crushed India by 10 wickets, chasing down a target of 169 in just 16 overs. This defeat prompted India to revise their T20 batting strategy. The upcoming semi-final in Guyana on June 27 offers India a chance at redemption.

South Africa, having topped Group 2, will play the first semi-final, avoiding a clash with India (if they advance) and facing either Australia, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh. England, if India tops their group, will likely meet India in the semi-finals.

The first semi-final in Trinidad on June 26 is a night match (6:00 AM IST), while the second semi-final in Guyana is a day game (8:30 PM IST), making it more suitable for the Indian TV audience. Regardless of their group position, India will play in the second semi-final.

T20 World Cup 2024 Semi-final Fixtures

“The Final on June 29 will have a reserve day on June 30. The semi-finals will each have additional time added to ensure match completion, totaling 250 minutes. For the first semi-final on June 26, 60 minutes will be available at the end of the day’s play, with the remaining 190 minutes scheduled for 2 PM on June 27.

“If India qualifies for the semi-finals, they will play in the second semi-final scheduled for Guyana on June 27, 2024,” stated the playing conditions.

Sanjay Bhardwaj: India will surely Win World Cup If Gautam Gambhir Becomes Coach

June 23, 2024, 1:52 pm

Sanjay Bhardwaj, the coach of former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir, believes that India has a strong chance of winning the World Cup if Gambhir takes on the role of head coach for the men’s team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently evaluating options for the next head coach as Rahul Dravid’s tenure is nearing its end after the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

In recent weeks, there have been strong speculations linking Gambhir to the head coach position, with many former cricketers endorsing the idea and expressing confidence in Gambhir’s abilities to lead Team India.

“If Gautam Gambhir will be the coach of the team for 3-4 years, India will surely win a World Cup. It will be a very good feeling if my student coaches Team India,” Sanjay told ANI.

India has been performing exceptionally well in the ongoing T20 World Cup, remaining undefeated and on track to reach the final four. Sanjay is optimistic about India’s chances, especially with the team’s improved bowling attack featuring pacers like Jasprit Bumrah.

“We have been performing very well. Earlier, our bowling attack was not good. But now our bowling attack has also become good with pacers like Jasprit Bumrah. I hope that we will win the World Cup after 12 years,” he added.

India had a flawless run in the tournament’s Group A, defeating Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA to advance to the Super 8 stage. Despite their final group game against Canada being abandoned due to weather, India finished at the top of their group with seven points.

In the Super 8 stage, India secured a 47-run victory over Afghanistan in their first game and followed it with a convincing 50-run win against Bangladesh. They are set to face Australia in their final Super 8 match as they aim to maintain their unbeaten streak in the tournament.

T20 WC: “Massive Win for Us,” Says Afghanistan Skipper Rashid After Victory Over Australia

June 23, 2024, 1:13 pm

Following Afghanistan’s 21-run victory over Australia, captain Rashid Khan expressed that the win is significant for their nation and praised the performances of Gulbadin Naib, openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, Mohammed Nabi, and other key players.

Australia was stunned by an inspiring spell from Afghanistan bowlers, led by Gulbadin Naib and Naveen-ul-Haq, securing the 21-run win in the Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup at Arnos Vale Ground.

After the match, Rashid stated during the post-match presentation, “Massive win for us as a team and as a nation. It is a great feeling. It is something we missed in the last two years. Happy with the win and super proud of the guys. It was quite important for us that we went back with the same playing eleven.”

“We are reading the opposition bowling lineup and selecting eleven accordingly. 140 was a good total on this wicket. We did not finish as well as we should have. The opening partnership gave us the best start. On this wicket, anything 130-plus, we were capable of defending it as long as we kept calm and had the belief. That is the beauty of this team, having allrounders and having options.”

“The way Gulbadin bowled today – the experience he has, it came good today. The way Nabi started – the wicket of (David) Warner – was also pleasing to see. It is so important for us back home and around the world. I am sure they are proud and would have enjoyed the game (the fans),” he concluded.

In the match, Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first. A 118-run partnership between Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60 off 49 balls, with four boundaries and four sixes) and Ibrahim Zadran (51 off 48 balls, with six fours) gave Afghanistan a strong start. However, tight bowling from Australia, including a hat-trick by Pat Cummins (3/28) and a fine spell from Adam Zampa (2/28), restricted Afghanistan to 148/6 in their 20 overs.

During Australia’s run chase, they were reduced to 32/3 at one point, thanks to a fine spell by Naveen ul Haq (3/20). All-rounder Glenn Maxwell (59 off 41 balls, with six fours and three sixes) held his ground, but crucial wickets taken by Gulbadin (4/20) pushed Australia on the back foot. Australia was bowled out for 127 runs in 19.2 overs, marking their first-ever loss to Afghanistan in international cricket.

Naib was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his match-winning spell, which included the wickets of Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and Cummins.

With this win and one loss, Afghanistan sits third in Group 1, while Australia is second with the same win-loss ratio. Both teams have two points each. If India wins their final Super Eights game against Australia on Monday and Afghanistan defeats Bangladesh by a large margin, the current 50-over and Test champions could be eliminated from the T20 World Cup.

T 20 World Cup: Jos Buttler Specifies England’s ‘Most Important Player’

June 20, 2024, 1:23 pm

England captain Jos Buttler praised their unsung hero, Adil Rashid, after their dominant 8-wicket victory over co-hosts West Indies in the T20 World Cup Super 8. Despite standout performances from Philip Salt and Jonny Bairstow, Buttler highlighted Rashid’s economic bowling.

While most bowlers had economies over eight, Rashid’s was a remarkable 5.20, conceding only 21 runs in his four overs and dismissing Andre Russell. “He is our most important player. Has so many variations and restricts runs,” Buttler commended in the post-match presentation.

After West Indies struck with quick wickets, Bairstow and Salt’s partnership steadied England. Salt’s aggressive batting, especially his onslaught in Romario Shepherd’s over, tilted the game in England’s favor.

Buttler praised the partnership, noting Bairstow’s maturity and Salt’s explosive batting. He emphasized the team’s execution across all aspects, from bowling to batting, leading to a well-rounded performance.

Looking ahead, England aims to secure a semi-final spot by defeating South Africa at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on Friday.

T20 World Cup : Ishant Sharma Believes Rishabh Pant’s Best Is “Yet To Come”

June 17, 2024, 5:48 pm

India fast bowler Ishant Sharma is optimistic about Rishabh Pant’s potential, believing that the young batter has more to offer despite already showcasing his prowess on challenging pitches like New York’s in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Pant made a remarkable return to international cricket after a serious accident in December 2022, displaying his skills while leading Delhi Capitals in the IPL, where he scored 446 runs in 13 matches at an average of 40.55.

Pant’s consistency continued in the T20 World Cup, notably seen in India’s opener against Ireland where he executed a reverse scoop to clear the fence. With 96 runs at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 124.67 in three matches, Pant’s performance has caught Ishant’s attention. Ishant, who played under Pant’s captaincy in IPL 2024, praised Pant’s abilities on the ‘Caught & Bold’ show on Disney+ Hotstar, stating, “He is a world-class player, and I am sure that his best is yet to come.”

India’s strong start in the T20 World Cup has led to high expectations, with former stars backing them for a semi-final spot and some fans even foreseeing a final appearance. Ishant credits India’s depth and versatility, with different players contributing in each game, providing stability and balance to the team. He emphasized the importance of having all bases covered, especially with the upcoming matches against West Indies where spinners could play a significant role.

India’s first Super 8 game against Afghanistan is eagerly anticipated, especially given the team’s solid performances and diverse strengths showcased so far in the tournament.

Watch: Did Bangladesh Seek Dressing Room Help For DRS Against Nepal In T20 World Cup?

June 17, 2024, 3:08 pm

Do you recall Steve Smith’s ‘brain fade’ moment during a Test against India? It occurred on Day 4 of the 2nd Test in Bengaluru during the 2017 Test series when Smith was trapped leg before wicket by Indian seamer Umesh Yadav.

Steve Smith, then the Australian captain and knowledgeable about the DRS system rules, knew he should only consult the non-striker, Peter Handscomb, for an opinion. However, to everyone’s surprise, he looked to his teammates in the dressing room for advice. This move infuriated the Indian captain, Virat Kohli, and prompted umpire Nigel Llong to send Smith off the field.

A similar incident occurred during the T20 World Cup Group D match between Bangladesh and Nepal at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent. In the 14th over, Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane bowled a delivery that hit Bangladesh’s Tanzim Hasan Sakib on the pads while he attempted a sweep. The ball dipped under the bat and struck his back thigh, leading to an out decision. Sakib began walking off but then opted for a review.

A video now circulating shows Bangladesh’s Jaker Ali, the non-striker, signaling to the dressing room before asking for a review. Additionally, the 15-second review window had expired when the on-field umpire, Ahsan Raza from Pakistan, signaled for the third umpire’s decision. The ball-tracker revealed that the ball had turned enough to miss the off-stump, and Sakib was declared not out.

When Tanzim was out on LBW, Bangladeshi player the non-striker Jaker went to the dressing room to ask for assistance during the DRS call.

How is @ICC able to permit this? Not even the umpire knows about this.even after the allotted time has passed, the third umpire is still used pic.twitter.com/wQXbRzJn5V

— マ ๏Ｌｅ?乛 (@VK50th) June 17, 2024

However, justice was served on the next delivery when Lamichhane bowled Sakib with a wrong-un, exploiting a gap between bat and pad. Despite this, Bangladesh won by 21 runs, securing a spot in the Super Eights.

T20 World Cup: Rahul Dravid’s Heartwarming Gesture To Canada Cricket Team Goes Viral

June 16, 2024, 8:11 pm

The T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Canada was abandoned due to a wet outfield, but an interaction between India’s head coach Rahul Dravid and the Canadian cricket team has gone viral on social media. The match, called off without any play, ended Canada’s journey in the competition while India advanced to the Super 8.

After the match was abandoned, Rahul Dravid visited the Canadian dressing room and was presented with an official team jersey signed by all members. Dravid also gave a motivational speech to the Canadian players.

“Thanks a lot. Want to acknowledge and appreciate the fantastic contribution that you have made to this tournament. I think all of us recognise the struggles and the challenges that you all have to go through to be able to play this sport,” Dravid said in his speech to the Canadian cricket team stars in Florida.

The preliminary stage of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup, which starts on Wednesday in the West Indies and concludes on Monday with Group C matches in Trinidad and Gros Islet, has already determined the fixtures for the next round, the Super Eight. In this upcoming stage, beginning on Wednesday, June 19, eight teams will compete for the four semi-final spots.

Which teams are in the Super 8 of the 2024 T20 World Cup?

According to the ICC tournament format, the top two teams from each of the four groups in the preliminary round of the World Cup advance to the Super Eight. This year, India (Group A), Australia (Group B), England (Group A), Afghanistan (Group C), West Indies (Group C), South Africa (Group D), and USA (Group A) have qualified for this prestigious stage. The final team will be determined from Group D after Sunday’s matches: Bangladesh vs. Nepal in Kingstown and Sri Lanka vs. the Netherlands in Gros Islet. In Group 2, the two key fixtures to watch are defending champions England, who qualified after Australia’s victory over Scotland on Sunday, facing two-time winners West Indies, followed by the West Indies’ match against South Africa. Weather permitting, India hopes for Virat Kohli to regain form after a series of low scores in New York. Kohli entered the T20 World Cup on the back of a stellar IPL performance, scoring over 700 runs at a strike-rate exceeding 150 for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Looking ahead to the Super Eight in the West Indies, India may opt to include Kuldeep Yadav in their bowling attack. Ravindra Jadeja has struggled to perform with both bat and ball and is at risk of being dropped to accommodate a wrist spinner, necessitating a strong showing from him on Saturday to secure his place.

T20 World Cup: Shoaib Akhtar’s One Line Post Goes Viral After Pakistan’s Exit

June 15, 2024, 3:08 pm

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign concluded on a disappointing note on Friday as the team failed to advance to the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Pakistan’s elimination occurred after the United States of America’s match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain, granting USA the point they needed to progress to the Super 8 in their debut appearance.

Following Pakistan’s unexpected exit, former pacer Shoaib Akhtar expressed his dismay over the outcome. Taking to X, Akhtar posted a succinct comment: “Pakistan’s World Cup journey is over.”

Pakistan's World Cup journey is over.

— Shoaib Akhtar (@shoaib100mph) June 14, 2024

Pakistan had hoped for an Ireland victory over USA before their final group-stage match against Ireland. However, the drawn result meant Pakistan could only achieve four points, while USA finished their group league campaign with five points from four games, advancing along with India from Group A.

Pakistan faced a narrow defeat against India in New York, failing to chase a target of 120, followed by a shocking Super Over loss to USA in their opening match in Dallas. These consecutive losses had already diminished Pakistan’s chances of progressing to the Super 8, relying once again on other match outcomes.

Unfortunately, heavy rain and flooding in Fort Lauderdale in recent days dashed Pakistan’s remaining hopes of advancing in the tournament.

USA made a strong start to the competition with a significant win over Canada, nearly chasing down a target of 200 runs. They then caused a major upset by defeating Pakistan in one of the T20 World Cup’s memorable matches and gave tough competition to formidable contenders India. USA’s rise in the tournament was boosted by their morale-boosting T20I series victory against Bangladesh just before the World Cup.

Notably, the USA team includes eight cricketers of Indian descent, most on temporary H1-B visas, working to revive cricket in the country 180 years after hosting the first-ever international cricket match between USA and Canada at St George’s Cricket Club in New York in 1844, preceding England and Australia’s first Test match by 33 years.

USA’s progression to the next round also secured their spot in the group stage of the 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup.

T20 World Cup: Aapne Choon-Choon Ka Murabba Bana Diya Hai Iss Team Ko, Ramiz Raja On Pakistan’s Disappointing Performance

June 15, 2024, 2:31 pm

The Pakistan cricket fraternity is reeling with disappointment over the team’s premature exit from the T20 World Cup, exacerbated by the manner in which captain Babar Azam and his squad failed to deliver. The shocking loss to debutants USA in their opening match set off Pakistan’s downfall, followed by a missed opportunity against India and a crucial win against Canada to stay in contention.

The frustration is palpable, particularly among former Pakistan players who have openly criticized the team in their own distinctive ways.

Aapne choon-choon ka murabba bana diya hai iss team ko (you have turned this team into a mixture of varied things),” said former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja, criticizing both players as well as the country’s cricket board.

“You brought back old, retired players so that somehow you save your face in the T20 World Cup…(you) let some of the good talent slip away just because this is a World Cup and it requires experience, we have to bring back retired players, even if they have bitched about the captain,” said Ramiz sarcastically, who also had a brief stint as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“Aise thodi team chalti hai. Yeh pehle bhi humne kar ke dekh liya tha (the team doesn’t work that way; we have tried this before),” Ramiz continued. “I think it was the 2003 World Cup. We gathered all the super stars in that team thinking that experience will come handy. But those were ageing stars, and Pakistan couldn’t be saved. We got beaten badly there as well.”

Pakistan restored Babar Azam as their captain for white-ball cricket after he voluntarily resigned from the position due to a disappointing performance at the ODI World Cup in India last year. Ramiz believed that the team’s leadership should be given the opportunity to “thrive.”

“You have to see who to play, what is the captain’s role. Unless you allow the leadership to flourish in this environment, let them take decision, introduce discipline and merit, and not try to run it (the team) from the sidelines, unless you have the cricket IQ and thinking and take good decisions morally and cricket-wise, until that time it’s almost impossible for this team to get back up on its legs,” Ramiz said.
“You will now find sacrifical lambs to save your place. That’s not how you run cricket.”

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup campaign will wrap up with their final, non-significant match in Group A against Ireland on Sunday.

Saurabh Netravalkar Dismisses Virat Kohli For First Golden Duck In T20 World Cups – Watch

June 12, 2024, 11:21 pm

India-born USA pacer Saurabh Netravalkar created a sensation at the Nassau Stadium in New York by dismissing star batter Virat Kohli for a golden duck during the Group A clash at the T20 World Cup on Wednesday.

The left-arm seamer delivered a superb full-length ball that angled across Kohli, who chased it outside off-stump, resulting in an edge that went straight to wicketkeeper Andries Gous. Netravalkar’s exuberant celebration with his teammates followed Kohli’s unfortunate milestone—his first-ever golden duck in T20 World Cup history. This also marked Kohli’s inaugural duck in the cricketing spectacle and only the second duck of his T20 career.

Virat Kohli’s performance at the cricketing carnival in the Americas has been dismal, scoring 1, 4, and 0 in three matches. After dismissing Kohli on the third ball of the game, USA pacer Saurabh Netravalkar also took the wicket of India captain Rohit Sharma in his second over, putting India in early trouble while chasing 111.

Mumbai-born Netravalkar played a key role in the USA’s surprising victory over former champions Pakistan in the T20 World Cup last week. The 32-year-old bowled a brilliant Super Over to secure his team’s unexpected win. An alumnus of the prestigious Cornell University and a senior techie at Oracle, Netravalkar has balanced academics and cricket remarkably well. He represented India in the 2010 U-19 World Cup, sharing the dressing room with KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, and played in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai.

Earlier in the match, left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh achieved a career-best 4-9, including two wickets in the first over, helping India restrict the USA to 110 for 8. A win in this match would ensure a place in the second round Super Eights for both teams.

T20 WC: Manjrekar Urges Virat To Channel Vintage Form On Tough New York Pitches

June 12, 2024, 12:53 pm

Ahead of India’s ICC T20 World Cup game against the USA, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar advised Virat Kohli to moderate his aggression and adopt a more conservative approach on the challenging pitches in New York.

India will face the USA in their third Group A match at the Nassau County International Stadium on Wednesday. In their previous game, India defeated Pakistan in a low-scoring thriller by six runs. The USA also triumphed over Pakistan in their last game, winning in the Super Over after a tie. Currently, India tops the group with two wins and four points, while the USA is in second place with the same record but a lower net run rate.

Virat, the leading run-scorer in the tournament’s history, has struggled in this edition, scoring only one and four runs against Ireland and Pakistan, respectively, as an opener. Both times, he was dismissed while playing aggressively.

Virat entered the tournament after a stellar IPL season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he scored 741 runs in 15 innings at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69, including a century and five fifties. This season marked his highest strike rate in IPL history, showcasing an aggressive approach, particularly against spinners.

In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar suggested that while Virat’s game evolved in response to criticism about his strike rate, the “old Virat” would be more effective on New York’s difficult pitches.

“The problem with Virat Kohli is that there has been a lot of talk about his strike rate over the last two years, and he completely changed that during this IPL season. His strike rate had reached 150, although others had almost 200, but that is a different topic. He probably must have come to the T20 World Cup with that same mindset, but given the pitches, the old Virat Kohli would have been much better,” said Manjrekar. “So, I feel someone should tell him to bring back that earlier version of himself and then change again when the pitches become flat,” he added.

Squads:
India Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (w), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal

United Sta0tes Squad: Steven Taylor, Monank Patel (w/c), Andries Gous, Aaron Jones, Nitish Kumar, Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, Jasdeep Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan, Nisarg Patel, Shayan Jahangir, Milind Kumar, Shadley van Schalkwyk

T20 World Cup 2024: Pakistan Scores First Victory; Defeats Canada By 7 Wickets

June 12, 2024, 1:42 am

Pakistan secured their first win in the ongoing T20 World Cup with a 7-wicket victory over Canada at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Tuesday. In another low-scoring chase, Pakistan earned two points, keeping their hopes of advancing to the Super 8 alive.

Mohammad Rizwan’s run-a-ball 53* guided Pakistan to chase down 107 in 17.3 overs, which boosted their net run rate to 0.19, compared to the USA’s 0.63. Pakistan must win their final game against Ireland, and other results need to favor them to qualify for the Super 8. India and co-hosts USA are the leading contenders to advance from Group A. For Pakistan to qualify, the USA must lose their remaining two games against India and Ireland, and Pakistan must defeat Ireland by a substantial margin to improve their net run rate beyond the USA’s.

While chasing 107, Saim Ayub fell early, contributing just 6(12). Skipper Babar Azam then formed a 63-run partnership, steering the game away from Canada. Babar fell near the finish line, but Rizwan and Usman Khan completed the chase, securing a 7-wicket win for Pakistan.

Earlier, Babar won the toss and chose to field, which proved to be a good decision given the pitch conditions. Canada was led by Aaron Johnson’s 44-ball 52. Despite some luck, Johnson capitalized on his opportunity, maintaining the scoreboard. However, Canada struggled to surpass the 130-run mark due to a lack of support from the other end.

Pakistan’s bowlers performed well in this must-win match for Babar’s team, with their four pacers taking wickets. The brief scores were: USA 106/7 (Aaron Johnson 52; Aaron Johnson 2-13, Haris Rauf 2-26) versus Pakistan 107/3 (Mohammad Rizwan 53*, Babar Azam 33; Dillon Heyliger 2-18).

T20 World Cup: “He was just joking around…”Axar On Key Partnership With Pant in Thriller India Vs Pakistan

June 11, 2024, 1:45 pm

Following India’s six-run triumph over Pakistan in their T20 World Cup clash, all-rounder Axar Patel, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, and pacer Mohammed Siraj shared insights into their strategies that contributed to the win. Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant three-wicket haul and a counter-attacking knock by Pant propelled India to a narrow victory at the packed Nassau County Stadium.

In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), spinner Yuzvendra Chahal featured the trio on his ‘Chahal TV’ show. Chahal asked Axar about his promotion to number four in the batting order. Axar explained that his captain, Rishabh Pant, made the situation easier by keeping things light-hearted.

“There was no chance of planning when I came to know that I was going to go at four. When I went for the batting, it was easy for me. Our captain (Pant, DC captain) was not telling me anything about cricket. He was just joking around. He knew that I would become a little easy. He kept telling me something on every ball. I also talked to him and it became a little easy. It was the same planning and nothing else,” said Axar.

On bowling to Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim, Axar mentioned his strategy to avoid being hit for a six in the mid-wicket region by not giving Wasim any balls in his range. “So I talked to the captain, Rohit bhai, that I would ball in the cut so give me two points. And keep the back sweeper a little inside the cut. If he hits the four on the cut or the cover, then it is okay. Because that is a very difficult shot. If the execution was good, then the over was also good. And then the difference in the run also increased,” he added.

Pant shared his approach while batting in a high-pressure situation, emphasizing a positive mindset. “India-Pakistan is always a match of pressure. When Bapu (Axar) came in, the entire IPL, he practiced the same thing, batting at number three or four. When your mate is with you, you become comfortable. We were talking to each other and we were getting comfortable with each other. We did not think much about the situation,” he said. When asked which of the three catches he took was his favorite, Pant replied, “All the catches were my favorites.”

Siraj, who contributed valuable seven runs at the end, explained his focus on simplicity while bowling. “All the runs made by the tailenders are very crucial at the end of the day. You found out at the end how important the seven runs were to me. So I am very happy with those seven runs and I won the match. It was very good,” he said. “My only plan was to get a low score. I do not try too much. I keep a simple plan and execute it wherever I can. If the batsman takes a good shot from there, then it is a good shot. So, my only plan was to put it in one place,” he added.

In the match, Pakistan won the toss and elected to field. Despite struggling on a difficult surface, Rishabh Pant’s 42 off 31 balls helped India reach 119 in 19 overs. Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah were the top bowlers for Pakistan, each taking three wickets.

During the run-chase, Pakistan adopted a measured approach with Mohammed Rizwan scoring 31 off 44 balls. However, Bumrah’s exceptional bowling and crucial wickets from Hardik Pandya kept the pressure on Pakistan. With 18 runs needed in the final over, Naseem Shah’s efforts fell short as Arshdeep Singh ensured Pakistan lost by six runs.

Bumrah was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his decisive spell. After this thrilling win, India tops Group A with two wins from two games, while Pakistan, having lost both their matches to the USA and India, faces slim chances of advancing to the knockout stage.

T20 World Cup 2024: Do-or-Die for Pakistan Against Canada

June 11, 2024, 12:39 pm

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Fate Hangs in Balance, now victory over Canada becomes essential for Pakistan to keep their Super 8 Dreams alive. Today’s match, match no. 22, is not going to be just a mere game of cricket, it’s going to be a fortune decider for Pakistan as, if they lose today, their dream of qualifying for super 8 will be crashed. Pakistan has lost both their initial games against USA and India, after being the favorites in both the games. USA beat Pakistan in a thrilling super over, where India beat Pakistan in a low scoring game.

The upset against USA has put Pakistan in situation where even after winning both their matches they will be depended on other teams for their place in super 8. The scenes at the group A are quite interesting with team India being the table toppers followed by USA, Canada, Pakistan and Ireland. India has won both its matches and so has USA. Canada has won one of its matches against Ireland and lost one to USA. Whereas Pakistan and Ireland have lost both their matches.

The gate for super 8 is opened for all 5 teams with India being the favorites after defeating Pakistan. Where USA with their home advantage have put themselves in a good situation after defeating Pakistan and Canada. Pakistan’s fate is now dependent on Ireland and Canada. Pakistan needs to win both their remaining matches with a good margin to maintain their run-rate. The path for super 8 and teams which will be headed to super 8 will be clearer after today’s clash of Pakistan and Canada.

Conditions on which Pakistan team can still qualify.

Nassau county stadium has produced low scoring games. The average first innings score at the venue in the first three games played so far is 103 runs. Will the pitch help the Pakistan’s bowlers or be a nightmare for Babar and army?

India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Match In NY, Weather Forecast Predicts ‘Intermittent Clouds

June 9, 2024, 1:59 pm

The weather forecast for Sunday morning at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York predicts a change from ‘intermittent’ to ‘mostly’ cloudy skies with thunderstorms.

Despite the slight overcast conditions, fans and organizers remain optimistic that the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match, the biggest game of the T20 World Cup, will not be affected by rain.

In this Group A match of the tournament, the two arch-rivals will face each other, with Pakistan needing a victory to recover from their unexpected loss to co-hosts USA in their opening game.

As criticism persists regarding the inconsistent performance of the drop-in pitch at the Nassau stadium, fans are eager for rain not to exacerbate the situation. As per accuweather.com, temperatures are expected to hover in the early 20s. However, the 10:30 am (local time) commencement of the match may encounter cloudy conditions and a possibility of rain and thunderstorms during the first innings.

Given this scenario, the team winning the toss may opt to bowl first, taking into account the challenging pitch conditions and the potential for rain, which could invoke the DLS method.

In the two matches played at the venue thus far, teams batting first have struggled to reach the 100-run mark. Sri Lanka were bowled out for 77 by South Africa, while Ireland were dismissed for 96 by India.

Marcus Stoinis Praises David Warner After Australia’s Victory: “He is class apart”

June 6, 2024, 12:00 pm

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis praised his teammate David Warner after the pair played crucial roles in Australia’s 39-run victory over Oman in the T20 World Cup, thanks to their 102-run partnership. After opting to bat, Oman initially controlled the game, especially when Glenn Maxwell was dismissed for a golden duck. Australia was struggling at 50/3 by the 9th over, but Stoinis and Warner stabilized the innings, leading their team to a competitive score of 164/5. Warner took a cautious approach, while Stoinis aggressively targeted the bowlers to maintain a healthy run rate.

“I’m happy with how I finished, it was very tough. He (Warner) showed his experience at the top of the order every game and he is class apart. He spent time in the middle and didn’t panic, he did what was right for the team. We were going to accelerate regardless and if you get one or two boundaries at the start, you target that over. Nothing outright but that’s part of a game plan,” Stoinis said during the mid-innings break.

This foundation allowed Australia’s bowlers to shine, with Mitchell Starc setting the tone for their defense of 165 runs. Stoinis also excelled with the ball, taking three wickets in his three-over spell. The team began their campaign with a win on a challenging surface that favored spinners and occasionally supported pacers.

Stoinis commented on the pitch, noting, “Nice start, we got the win and boys spent some time in the middle and everyone got to bowl. I was trying to soak up the conditions and keep it simple. A couple kept low and a couple were spinning for the spinners. It seemed like swing wasn’t available, and I was trying to get some bounce with cross-seam deliveries.”

Following their victory, Australia will next face England on Saturday at the Kensington Oval, Barbados.

David Warner Cements His Legacy: Becomes Australia’s All-Time Leading T20 Run Scorer

June 6, 2024, 11:44 am

David Warner etched his name in history books by becoming the highest run-scorer for Australia in the T20 format, surpassing former captain Aaron Finch.

During Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign opener against Oman, Warner didn’t adopt the high-risk, high-reward approach and took his time to settle on the tricky surface.

Warner backed off with a score of 56(51) with six boundaries and a sole maximum. He has 3,155 runs in 104 matches to his name in the shortest format of cricket.

He surpassed Finch’s tally of 3,120, which he racked up in 103 matches at an average of 34.28 and a strike rate of 142.53.

The experienced opener took time to open up to the ball and effectively negated Oman’s threat.

He advanced down the pitch, swung his bat freely, and dispatched the ball soaring into the stands, acknowledging his 27th T20I fifty with a raised bat. His innings concluded when he mistimed a shot, falling victim to Oman’s right-arm pacer Kaleemullah, caught at long-off. This fifty propelled him past the former West Indies powerhouse Chris Gayle, elevating his tally to 111 fifties in T20 cricket, surpassing Gayle’s 110. Virat Kohli, the stalwart Indian batsman, follows closely behind with 105 fifties to his credit.

During his time at the crease, Warner formed a formidable 102-run partnership with Marcus Stoinis, enabling Australia to post a competitive total of 164/5. Stoinis, once again displaying his prowess with the bat, remained unbeaten on 67 from just 36 deliveries, featuring two fours and a remarkable six sixes. His impactful innings proved pivotal in Australia’s resurgence after a shaky start, lifting them from 50/3 in the 9th over.

Following his performance, Stoinis joined the elite club of Australian cricketers to surpass 1000 runs in T20 Internationals, becoming the eighth player to achieve this milestone. With 1,007 runs from 60 matches, he boasts an impressive average of 31.46 and a striking strike rate of 147.22.

T20 WC 2024: “I won’t Be Bowling Early”, Australia Skipper Mitchell Marsh

June 2, 2024, 2:01 pm

Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh said he won’t be bowling early in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Earlier, Marsh suffered a hamstring injury during the first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he was taking part for the Delhi Capitals (DC). Following that he has not played any games in the T20 tournament.

The Australia all-rounder hoped that in the next 10-12 days he will be available fully for the Aussies.

“Yeah, I won’t be bowling early on in the tournament. And I always joke as captain – I hope I won’t bowl late in the tournament either. But yeah, I’ll progress that slowly over the next 10-12 days and hopefully be available for them at the back end of the tournament,” Marsh was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying.
The skipper further added that it takes a lot of time for the players to reach the West Indies from Australia for which it will be a bit challenging for them.
“We have still got [Mitchell] Starc and Maxi [Glenn Maxwell] to arrive this morning, or lunchtime. But after that we are all here. I think for the guys to get a couple of days at home is really important for us as a group and for them personally. Obviously, it takes a few days to get here from Australia so that adds a few challenges but they’ll be ready to go come the 5th,” he added.

As captain of the Australian team, Marsh’s first ICC tournament will be the T20 World Cup 2024.
Prior to their Group B matches against England, Namibia, and Scotland, Australia will play their opening match of the T20 World Cup against Oman in Barbados on June 5.
Australia announced their team earlier in May for the T20 World Cup.

Australia’s squad: Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh (captain), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa, and Mitchell Starc.
Matt Short and Jake Fraser-McGurk are the traveling reserves.

Meet Aaron Jones: USA Batter Who Smashed 10 Sixes With A Strike-Rate Of 235 Against Canada

June 2, 2024, 12:19 pm

The USA made a stunning entrance at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, chasing down a target of 195 with 14 deliveries to spare against Canada in Texas on Saturday. Aaron Jones played a pivotal role in their dominant chase, delivering a spectacular innings to kickstart the T20 showpiece.

Jones smashed a career-best 94 not out off just 40 deliveries, hitting four fours and 10 sixes. The 29-year-old backed up his pre-tournament statement about the team’s approach, emphasizing a desire to play “fearless cricket, positive cricket, smart cricket” and to “leave everything out there on the park.”

His 10 sixes equalled the record for most sixes by a batter in a T20 World Cup innings, matching West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who hit 11 sixes against England during the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Who Is Aaron Jones?

Aaron Jones has a background in professional cricket, having played in Barbados and being a childhood friend of England’s Jofra Archer, a 2019 ODI World Cup winner. Born on October 19, 1994, Jones made his first-class debut in 2017, scoring 342 runs in seven matches.

After playing domestic cricket in the Caribbean, Jones qualified to represent the USA at the international level, becoming a key player for the team. Reports conflict regarding his place of birth, with some claiming Queens (New York) and others Barbados.

Jones achieved his first List A century at the World Cricket League Division Two, a competition that helped the USA gain ODI status in 2019.

In 43 ODIs, Jones has scored 1454 runs at an average of 36.35 and a strike rate of 70.78, including a century and 10 half-centuries. He made his T20I debut in March 2019, scoring 478 runs in 27 matches at a strike rate of 116.87, with two half-centuries.

Jones is also a part-time leg-spinner, having taken six wickets in his T20I career so far.
