India’s Champions Trophy Matches May Be In Dubai, ICC Considers Hybrid Model

July 14, 2024, 5:13 pm

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering a hybrid model for the 2025 Champions Trophy following reports that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the tournament. India has not toured Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup due to ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two nations.

According to a report, the ICC has begun discussing alternative plans in case the BCCI decides against sending its team to Pakistan. ANI previously reported that the BCCI has requested the cricket governing body to move India’s matches to either Sri Lanka or Dubai.

India’s concerns regarding travel to Pakistan are expected to be addressed at the upcoming ICC annual conference in Colombo, scheduled for July 19 to 22. The report also mentioned that a “contingency budget” is being considered for holding the Champions Trophy matches outside of Pakistan, with Dubai emerging as a likely venue.

One proposal suggests splitting the matches between Karachi and Dubai to ease travel logistics, though Lahore and Rawalpindi remain options as well.

Last year, the BCCI attributed its decision not to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup to a denial of permission from the Indian government. After extensive discussions, the continental tournament was co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

If the hybrid model for the Champions Trophy is approved, there is a possibility that one of the semi-final matches and the final could also be relocated from Pakistan.

The Champions Trophy will be the first global ICC event hosted by Pakistan since the 1996 ODI World Cup, which they co-hosted with India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan Icons Salute Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma ‘This Is How You Retire In Glory’

June 30, 2024, 9:37 pm

Several Pakistani cricketing icons, including Wasim Akram and Javed Miandad, have praised Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for announcing their retirement from T20 internationals following India’s triumph at the T20 World Cup. India secured their second T20 World Cup title with a hard-fought seven-run victory over South Africa in Barbados.

“I have always been a fan of Rohit’s batting… Kohli’s greatness is there for all to see,” said former batsman Zaheer Abbas, quoted by PTI. Miandad echoed similar sentiments, believing that the timing of their retirement was fitting given their contributions to the sport.

Waqar Younis, renowned for his fast bowling, lauded Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for their stellar performances under pressure, which were instrumental in India’s success. He also highlighted Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional bowling, calling him a “pure match winner.”

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif credited India’s consistent success to the synergy between team management, led by Rahul Dravid, and the players. “Dravid deserves a lot of credit… he has given a clear pathway to the Indian team,” Latif remarked.

Shahid Afridi applauded Rohit’s leadership and Kohli’s match-winning abilities, stating that their decision to retire on a high note was commendable.

Mohsin Hasan Khan, former Test batter and coach, praised Rohit and Kohli for setting an exemplary retirement standard, noting their influence on aspiring cricketers. He emphasized India’s depth in T20 talent and Rohit’s unmatched record of five centuries in the format.

With two T20 World Cup titles, Rohit Sharma solidifies his legacy as one of cricket’s greatest, leaving a lasting impact on the game.

IIM-Ahmedabad Student’s Cricket Fever: Student’s Plea To Extend The Deadline

June 29, 2024, 6:05 pm

At the IIM-Ahmedabad, a place known for its smart students and tough studies, even the smartest sometimes get distracted by cricket. Recently, Associate Professor Promila Agarwal faced a funny situation. Her students wanted extra time for an assignment so they could watch India play South Africa in the T20 World Cup final.

The request, as Professor Agarwal shared on social media, came in the form of a carefully crafted email from her PGP students. Opening with the customary academic politeness – “Dear Professor, I hope this email finds you well” – the students wasted no time in getting to the heart of the matter. They boldly petitioned for a two-day extension on a looming assignment, citing the monumental importance of the cricket match to their emotional well-being.

“As you may be aware,” the email pleaded, “the India vs South Africa World Cup final is taking place today, a monumental event that holds significant emotional weight for many of us.” One can almost imagine the earnest expressions and shared glances exchanged among the students as they composed this plea, invoking the spirit of cricket that unites a nation.

As the cricket match unfolded, one can imagine the halls of IIM-Ahmedabad echoing with cheers and good-natured banter, bridging the gap between classrooms and cricket grounds. Perhaps in the end, Professor Agarwal granted a compromise, recognizing that even the most demanding of schedules can make room for a little bit of cricket magic.

T20 World Cup Final Anticipation: India vs. South Africa Amid Rain Concerns

June 29, 2024, 12:03 pm

As excitement mounts for the T20 World Cup final between India vs South Africa on Saturday, there is a growing concern over persistent rain potentially impacting the highly anticipated match. To mitigate any disruption caused by the weather, the event organizers have prudently scheduled a reserve day to ensure the match reaches its conclusion.

Understanding the Reserve Day

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has outlined clear guidelines on the utilization of the reserve day. If rain hampers the game on Saturday, play will resume on Sunday from the point it was interrupted. The ICC emphasizes that every effort will be made to complete the match on the scheduled day, including any necessary reduction in overs. Only if the minimum required overs to constitute a match cannot be bowled on the scheduled day will the match spill over into the reserve day.

For a match to be considered complete, a minimum of 10 overs must be bowled to the team batting second. Should the match start on Saturday but face interruptions that prevent its completion, it will pick up from where it left off on Sunday. The start time for the reserve day is set for 8:00 PM IST.

Super Over Regulations

In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined through a Super Over. If this also ends in a tie, additional Super Overs will be played until a winner emerges. These can continue indefinitely until a decisive result is achieved.

Weather Forecast

This year’s T20 World Cup has already faced significant weather-related disruptions, casting a shadow over the final showdown in Bridgetown. Here is a detailed look at the weather forecast:

Saturday’s Weather Forecast:

Morning: Cloudy and windy with thunderstorms expected in parts of the area.
- Probability of Precipitation: 44%
- Cloud cover: 98%
- Humidity: 77%
Afternoon: Continued cloudy and breezy conditions with thunderstorms in parts of the area.
- Probability of Precipitation: 46%
- Cloud cover: 99%
- Humidity: 80%

Reserve Day (June 30) Forecast:

Morning: Mostly cloudy and breezy.
- Probability of Precipitation: 25%
Afternoon: Mostly cloudy with occasional rain and thunderstorms; breezy conditions persist.
- Probability of Precipitation: 60%

With both teams eager to break their title droughts, fans are hopeful that the weather will not overshadow what promises to be a thrilling contest. The ICC’s contingency plans, including the reserve day, aim to ensure a fair and conclusive outcome despite the challenges posed by the inclement weather.

Watch: Rahul Dravid Consoles Virat Kohli After Another Early Dismissal

June 28, 2024, 12:12 am

Virat Kohli’s struggles at the T20 World Cup 2024 continued as he was dismissed for a 9-ball 9 in the semi-final against England in Guyana on Thursday. Attempting to attack left-arm pacer Reece Topley, Virat Kohli was bowled, leaving India at 19 for 1 in the third over. This dismissal marked Kohli’s fifth single-digit score in the tournament, bringing his total to just 75 runs in seven innings with an average of 10.71.

A visibly disappointed Kohli was consoled by head coach Rahul Dravid in the dugout, who offered a reassuring pat on the leg.

Earlier in the match, England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to field first against the unbeaten Indian team. The toss was delayed by 80 minutes due to heavy morning rain that left the outfield wet. Rain interrupted play again after eight overs, with India at 65 for two, courtesy of a solid partnership between Rohit Sharma (37*) and Suryakumar Yadav (13*). Besides Kohli, India also lost Rishabh Pant, who fell for just 4 runs.

India’s playing XI included Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah. England’s lineup featured Jos Buttler (captain), Phil Salt, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, and Reece Topley.

T20 WC: Bangladesh Captain Attributes Loss To Struggles In Defeat Against Afghanistan

June 25, 2024, 1:24 pm

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto admitted to poor decision-making during their Super Eights match against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024, leading to an eight-run defeat. Shanto acknowledged the failure of the middle-order batsmen to execute their plan effectively.

“Our plan was to attack in the first six overs, but we made poor decisions, especially in the middle overs, which cost us the game,” Shanto stated after the match. He praised Bangladesh’s bowling performance throughout the tournament but highlighted the batting unit’s shortcomings.

Reflecting on the game, Afghanistan chose to bat after winning the toss, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz contributing significantly with 43 runs. Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain stood out with three wickets in the bowling department.

In the chase, Litton Das was the lone standout performer for Bangladesh, scoring an unbeaten 54 runs. However, Naveen-ul-Haq and Rashid Khan’s four-wicket hauls led Afghanistan to victory.

Following the defeat, Mitchell Marsh’s Australia also exited the tournament, finishing third in Group 1 of the Super Eights.Bangladesh Skipper Najmul Hossain Identifies Middle Order Errors in Afghanistan Defeat

“Our Journey Starts Now”: Afghanistan’s Match-Winner Naib Reflects On Historic Victory Over Australia

June 23, 2024, 12:49 pm

Afghanistan pacer Gulbadin Naib, who shone with a match-winning performance during their historic victory over Australia, believes that their team’s “journey starts now.” The Afghanistan team and their fans celebrated as they secured their first-ever T20I win against Australia.

The Australian duo of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell seemed poised to take the game away, but Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan placed his trust in Naib to make a crucial breakthrough. Naib delivered by bowling four consecutive overs, taking four wickets, and conceding just 20 runs. He dismissed the hard-hitting trio of Stoinis, Maxwell, and Tim David, effectively turning the game in Afghanistan’s favor.

“We were waiting [for this] for a long time. It’s a great moment not just for me but for my nation and my people. [It is a] big achievement for our cricket. I have no words to say but thanks to the fans for supporting our career and cricket journey. It’s a great teamwork, we worked hard for the last two months and the result is in front of you,” Naib expressed during the post-match presentation.

The victory was particularly sweet for Afghanistan as it avenged the heartache inflicted by Australia in the ODI World Cup the previous year. In that match, Australia was struggling at 91/7, but Maxwell’s unbeaten 200 helped them chase down 292, leaving Afghanistan disappointed. However, seven months later, Afghanistan turned the tables with a spirited all-round performance, leaving Australia stunned.

“Thank god we at last beat Australia. It’s a great achievement for our cricket in Afghanistan. If you look at history of our cricket, it is not much. Last ten years, we achieved a lot of goals. This is a big achievement,” Naib said with a smile.

“We played very good cricket and in the first round we beat New Zealand. Then [to beat] Australia is not easy. They are a world champion team and it is a big achievement for our cricket. We can carry this to the next level. Our journey starts now. We are very lucky to have such a staff and management,” he added.

With renewed hope of securing a spot in the final four, Afghanistan is set to face Bangladesh on Monday at Arnos Vale Stadium.

T20 World Cup 2024: Will PAK Vs. IRE In Florida Face A Fourth Consecutive Washout?

June 16, 2024, 2:37 pm

Pakistan and Ireland are set to clash in a Group A match at the Central Browards Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, on Sunday, June 16. Although the result of this fixture will not affect qualifications, attention remains on the weather conditions in Florida, known as the ‘Sunshine State.’ This venue, the third in the USA leg of the T20 World Cup 2024, was slated to host four group stage matches.

So far, three of these four matches have been completely washed out, with no balls bowled or coins tossed. The city has been dealing with thunderstorms, rain, and flash-flood warnings for several days. In Group D, the match between Nepal and Sri Lanka was abandoned, resulting in the elimination of Wanindu Hasaranga’s team from the tournament. Each Group A team was scheduled to play one match at the Florida stadium.

However, the match between the USA and Ireland was abandoned, which ultimately led to Pakistan’s elimination from the tournament. This marked the first time Pakistan exited the T20 World Cup after just three games. The USA team earned one point, making history by reaching the Super 8 stage in their very first T20 World Cup appearance. Although India’s abandoned match against Canada did not affect qualifications, it raised concerns about the stadium’s preparations for World Cup games. Notably, during India’s match, despite the absence of rain, the outfield was wet and did not dry up. The pitch was covered, but the rest of the ground was exposed, resulting in a soggy outfield.

PAK vs IRE: Weather forecast

As Pakistan prepares to take on Ireland at the same venue, AccuWeather predicts a 25% chance of rain. The match will see 70% cloud cover, resulting in overcast conditions, with temperatures around 32 degrees Celsius. Ultimately, the playability will depend on whether the outfield has dried up.

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Exit: ‘Out for a Duck’ Ex-India Cricketer’s Sharp Taunt

June 15, 2024, 1:16 pm

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer made a witty comment on Pakistan’s exit from the T20 World Cup 2024. He posted on X, “Contrary to popular belief, Pakistan didn’t get knocked out because USA v IRE got rained off. They got knocked out because Pakistan lost to USA 🙂 #USAvIRE #T20WorldCup.”

The US advanced to the Super Eights, eliminating former champions Pakistan. The crucial group match between the USA and Ireland in Lauderhill, Florida, was washed out on Friday. India topped the group with six points, while the USA placed second with five points. This left Pakistan, with only two points, unable to reach the top two, even if they beat Ireland on Sunday.

Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener, is famous for his insightful and humorous social media posts. His latest comment added a touch of humor to the situation, highlighting Pakistan’s unexpected defeat to the USA in T20 World Cup 2024. This witty remark quickly gained attention of cricket fans worldwide.

India vs Canada T20 World Cup: Will Florida Weather Help India Keep Their Unbeaten Streak Alive?

June 15, 2024, 12:29 pm

India has made a strong start in the T20 World Cup, advancing to the ‘Super 8s’ with three consecutive wins in Group A (India, USA, Pakistan, Canada, Ireland). The team, which won the championship in 2007, now faces Canada on Saturday. However, whether they can extend their unbeaten run depends largely on the weather in Florida.

Florida has been dealing with heavy rain and flash floods in recent days. Some areas are under a state of emergency, putting the India vs. Canada T20 World Cup match in doubt. On Friday morning, the wet outfield at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill caused the USA vs. Ireland match to be washed out. This unexpected outcome allowed the USA to advance to the ‘Super 8s’ in their debut tournament, as the 2009 winners, Pakistan, were eliminated.

India has secured their spot in the ‘Super 8s’ by defeating Ireland, USA, and Pakistan, earning six points. The USA, with two wins and one no-result, is also moving forward with five points. With these results, the remaining games in Group A have little impact on the standings. India will top the group, followed by the USA.

Despite the weather forecast, which predicts cloudy skies and possible thunderstorms, the match between India and Canada is scheduled to start at 10:30 AM local time (8:00 PM in India). The forecast for the afternoon shows a slight improvement, but conditions will remain humid with a high chance of rain.

Weather forecasts for Lauderhill, Florida:

June 15 Morning: Mostly cloudy, possible showers or thunderstorms, humid. Cloud cover: 94%, Rain: 3.2mm.

June 15 Afternoon: Mostly cloudy and humid. Cloud cover: 94%.

On Sunday, Pakistan will face Ireland in the last group game at the same venue. This match is now inconsequential, but fans hope for clearer skies to allow the tournament to proceed smoothly. Cricket fans are waiting to see if the weather will get better. India’s winning streak and Canada’s chance to shine depend on it.

T20 World Cup Update: New Zealand Crash Out Of The Tournament After Afghanistan Defeat Papua New Guinea

June 14, 2024, 9:43 am

Afghanistan triumphed over Papua New Guinea by seven wickets in Match 29 of the T20 World Cup 2024, effectively eliminating New Zealand from the tournament.

Opting to bowl first, Afghanistan dominated PNG, restricting them to a mere 95 runs in 19.5 overs. In response, Afghanistan chased down the target effortlessly in just 15.1 overs.

With this victory, Afghanistan advanced to the Super 8 stages of the World Cup, concurrently ousting New Zealand.

The Kane Williamson-led squad had a catastrophic start, losing their opener to Afghanistan by a staggering 84 runs. Subsequent defeats, including a narrow 13-run loss to the West Indies, left them teetering on the brink of elimination.

Currently languishing at the bottom of Group C with a net run rate of -2.425 and being out of the running to win the T20 World Cup, the Kiwis, semi-finalists of the previous edition, now aim to conclude their campaign on a positive note with wins against Uganda and PNG in their remaining fixtures.

Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain And Shakib Lead Victory Over Netherlands, Keeping Super 8 Hopes Alive

June 14, 2024, 2:48 am

Bangladesh’s victory over the Netherlands in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at Arnos Vale Ground, with Rishad Hossain taking three wickets and Shakib Al Hasan scoring an unbeaten 64, has boosted their chances of advancing to the Super 8 stage. The win also resulted in former champions Sri Lanka being the first team eliminated from Group D. Bangladesh’s two-point gain in Group D has solidified their position in second place in the standings. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain played crucial roles in keeping Bangladesh competitive in the tournament.

The Netherlands put up a fight, but Bangladesh ultimately proved too strong. The match hung in the balance when the Netherlands required 56 runs off 36 balls with 7 wickets in hand. However, their momentum shifted after the dismissal of Sybrand Engelbrecht for 33, who had been batting well.

Rishad Hossain maintained his composure despite some setbacks and took three crucial wickets, including that of Engelbrecht. Mustafizur Rahman delivered an exceptional performance with the ball, conceding just 12 runs in his spell and claiming one wicket.

In pursuit of a target of 160, the Netherlands struggled during the Powerplay and lost both openers early with few runs on the board. Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht then steadied the innings, but Singh departed just as he was becoming threatening.

Captain Scott Edwards took charge and supported Engelbrecht, who was scoring boundaries effectively. The Netherlands positioned themselves well, but suffered a setback with the loss of two wickets in a single over, which set them back once again. Edwards’ dismissal proved to be decisive, as the Netherlands could not recover from the subsequent batting collapse.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan’s unbeaten 64 off 46 deliveries propelled Bangladesh to a competitive total of 159/5. Contributions also came from Tanzid Hasan (35), Mahmudullah (25), and Jaker Ali (14) after Bangladesh chose to bat first.

The Dutch team relied heavily on pace, with off-spinner Aryan Dutt (2/17 in 4 overs) and medium-pacer Paul van Meekeren (2/15 in 4 overs) emerging as their most effective bowlers.

Dutt posed challenges during the Powerplay, dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das, the latter falling to an outstanding catch by Sybrand Engelbrecht.

The match briefly paused for a helmet inspection after Tanzid Hasan had a bouncer lodge in his grill. Hasan quickly touched the ball to the ground to prevent any potential controversy regarding a catch claim upon its removal.

A dynamic partnership between Tanzid Hasan (35 off 26) and Shakib Al Hasan propelled Bangladesh to a competitive total. Paul van Meekeren’s catch in the deep slowed Bangladesh’s scoring rate, dismissing Tanzid Hasan, while Tim Pringle removed the well-set Towhid Hridoy. Spin proved effective for the Dutch on a challenging surface.

Shakib Al Hasan’s outstanding unbeaten 64* off 46 deliveries was pivotal in Bangladesh reaching a respectable score of 159/5.

Brief score: Bangladesh 159/5 (Shakib Al Hasan 64*, Tanzid Hasan 35; Aryan Dutt 2-17) vs Netherlands 134/8 (Sybrand Engelbrecht 33, Vikramjit Singh 26; Rishad Hossain 3-33).

T20 World Cup Update: West Indies Defeat New Zealand, Enter Super 8

June 13, 2024, 10:10 am

West Indies (149/9) beat New Zealand (136/9) by 13 runs to enter the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage.

In match 26 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, West Indies faced off against New Zealand. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Despite being in deep trouble at 30/5, Sherfane Rutherford’s brilliant half-century sparked a remarkable comeback for the Windies. His performance helped the Windies recover and post a total of 149/9 against New Zealand’s formidable pace trio—Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Southee—on Thursday.

In the second innings, the Windies, with the help of great performances by their bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie were successful in restricting the Kiwis to a total of 136/9 leading to the victory of the Windies over the Kiwis by 13 runs.

Watch: Arshdeep Singh’s Iconic ‘No Need To Look At The Umpire’ Moment In T20 World Cup

June 12, 2024, 9:51 pm

In T20 World Cup clash against the USA in New York, India’s pacer Arshdeep Singh showcased his brilliance by making history with a stunning first-ball wicket.

Arshdeep Singh trapped opener Shayan Jahangir right in front with a peach of a delivery, displaying impeccable skill and confidence. Not bothering to appeal, Arshdeep knew he had Jahangir out as he celebrated with his hands up, becoming the first Indian bowler to achieve this feat in a T20 World Cup game.

He further solidified his performance by claiming a second wicket in the same over, dismissing Andries Gous. With both teams eyeing a spot in the Super 8s, India, led by captain Rohit Sharma, chose to bowl first after winning the toss.

Despite changes in the USA lineup, India remained unchanged from their victorious match against Pakistan. As the game unfolds, cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate more exciting moments on the field.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup: Yuvraj Singh And Shahid Afridi’s Epic Exchange During India-Pak Clash

June 11, 2024, 7:04 pm

The cricket world witnessed a delightful spectacle during the recent India vs. Pakistan match at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup hosted by the US and the Caribbean islands, where cricket legends Yuvraj Singh and Shahid Afridi engaged in an entertaining conversation that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the game.

The camaraderie and banter between these two icons offered fans a glimpse into the lighter side of cricket’s fiercest rivalry. As two legends of the game, watched from the stands, the tension was palpable. The historic rivalry promised a gripping contest and the teams did not disappoint.

Pakistan appeared to be in firm control of the match-up until the end of the 13th over. With the scoreboard reading 73 for 2 in 12.1 overs, and a mere 47 runs needed from 47 balls, victory seemed well within their grasp. Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Rizwan looked set to guide Pakistan home, but the sport’s unpredictable nature soon came.

The turning point arrived with Hardik Pandya’s crucial dismissal of Fakhar Zaman. This wicket, taken on the very next ball after the score reached 73 for 3, signaled the beginning of a dramatic shift in momentum. Despite Pakistan’s apparent dominance and the well-set Rizwan, the match was far from over. Enter Jasprit Bumrah, the ace Indian pacer, who bowled a game-changing 15th over. Bumrah’s dismissal of Rizwan for 31 sparked a collapse that Pakistan could not recover from. The Pakistani batting line-up faltered under pressure, with wickets tumbling and runs drying up. What seemed an easy chase turned into a formidable task, culminating in Pakistan finishing at 113 for 7, six runs short of India’s total.

The thrilling finish was met with a mix of elation and heartbreak, emotions captured perfectly in a video shared on social media by Afridi’s team. In the footage, Afridi is seen playfully chiding Yuvraj for celebrating too early. “Lala, why are you sad? What happened?” Yuvraj is seen asking Afridi. The Pakistani legend, with a hint of frustration, responded, “My being sad is right or wrong? Was this a match we (Pakistan) should have lost?” Their presence not only added to the spectacle but also underscored the unifying power of sport, bringing together fans and players from diverse backgrounds in shared excitement and passion.

As the T20 World Cup progresses, the memorable India-Pakistan clash in New York will undoubtedly remain a highlight, showcasing the drama, skill, and unpredictability that make cricket one of the most beloved sports worldwide. With Yuvraj Singh and Shahid Afridi as ambassadors, the tournament promises to continue delivering unforgettable moments, celebrating the rich legacy and thrilling future of T20 cricket.

Shivam Dube: A Safe Bet That May Cost India World Cup

June 10, 2024, 3:10 pm

In the low-scoring encounter between India and Pakistan, India emerged victorious after Bumrah’s brilliance and Pant’s heroics. However, concerns about Shivam Dube increase as he fails yet again. He scored 3 runs off 9 balls and was dismissed by Naseem Shah when India was in need of an important partnership. India’s innings collapsed from 89/3 to 119/10 with an over still remaining, where 2 players scored ducks and 6 players scored in single digits.

Shivam Dube, the left-handed spin basher, seems to be the only concern in the Indian squad right now. The all-rounder has failed to deliver since the Indian squad was announced on 30th April, 2024. He has 2 ducks in 7 innings with a batting average of 9. He has not bowled yet in any of the World Cup matches, except for the practice match against Bangladesh.

The selection of Shivam Dube is compared to that of Vijay Shankar for the ODI World Cup 2019, when he was selected over Ambati Rayudu as he provided a three-dimensional display. Similarly, Shivam Dube offers both batting and bowling options. However, he was selected over Rinku Singh, whose stats clearly show better performance on the international stage.

The strategy of providing more cushion in both batting and bowling by adding more all-rounders to the squad, instead of proper batsmen or bowlers, has not worked for India in the past and seems to be failing again. Though India emerged victorious in both matches, the concern about finishing the game remains real.

T20 World Cup 2024: Flags Of 20 Countries, Including India, Made From Plastic Waste Steal The Show

June 9, 2024, 6:31 pm

Flags of 20 countries, including India’s national flag, have been created using plastic waste for the ICC T-20 Men’s World Cup. These flags were produced by Praveen Overseas, a company based in Surat. The owner, Praveen Gupta, stated that they have crafted flags for all 20 participating countries in the T20 World Cup. He also mentioned that these flags are the largest in the world, measuring 35 meters by 20 meters.

The 2024 T20 World Cup is being hosted by the US and the West Indies. The next match in the tournament is between India and Pakistan at the Nassau International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. The flags made in Surat have many unique features. The Coca-Cola Company placed an order to create flags of different countries on June 6th.

The flag manufacturing company highlighted that the uniqueness of these flags lies in their construction, which uses polyester fabric and recycled yarn. The yarn, made from recycled garbage and plastic bottles, sets these flags apart. This initiative showcases India’s commitment to sustainability. The recycled yarn was provided by Ganesh Group to the Surat-based company.

For the T20 World Cup in the West Indies, a total of 20 flags were made in Surat. Each flag required 500 meters of cloth and took 24 hours to create, employing 600 workers in total. The manufacturing process adhered to the specific design rules of each country’s flag. Weighing around 150 kg each, the total weight of all the flags is 3500 kg, with about 54 people needed to lift one flag.

India T20 WC squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

Pakistan T20 WC squad: Babar Azam (c), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan.

T20 World Cup: Who Will Come Out On Top In Today’s IND Vs. PAK?

June 9, 2024, 1:30 pm

After the surprising events in Dallas on June 6, where the USA achieved a remarkable Super Over victory against a struggling Pakistan side, cricket fans may still be reeling from the upset. Now, Babar Azam’s team faces another formidable challenge against their arch-rivals, India. However, India holds the upper hand in their head-to-head encounters, having won five out of seven games.

Meanwhile, India, led by Rohit Sharma, enters the upcoming contest fresh off a comfortable eight-wicket victory against Ireland. The return to form of skipper Rohit, who scored 52 off 37 balls, and Hardik Pandya, who took 3 wickets for 27 runs, ahead of this highly anticipated match is a source of satisfaction for the team.

India’s bowling unit appears more assured, with players like Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Pandya delivering promising performances in their tournament opener. The resurgence of Rishabh Pant at No.3 has allowed Virat Kohli to open alongside Rohit.

Kohli, renowned for his batting prowess in T20 World Cup matches against Pakistan, boasts an impressive record of 308 runs in five matches against them, at a strike rate of 132.8. Should he find his rhythm on Sunday, it could spell trouble for Pakistan.

India’s batting lineup now features four left-handers – Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel – whose form in the lower middle order will be crucial for India’s success.

In contrast, Pakistan has displayed inconsistent performances in recent T20I matches, compounded by a series loss against England. Their traditional style of cricket requires a modern update to compete effectively.

Pakistan’s batting, led by captain Babar Azam, has been inconsistent, highlighting the need for assertive intent from their top-order batsmen in ICC tournaments.

The team’s selection choices have been uncertain, with the recall of Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim from retirement and the addition of Usman Khan to the squad. Despite these changes, the struggling form of Azam Khan poses further challenges for the Pakistan team.

Moreover, the appointment of South African veteran Gary Kirsten as their T20 coach adds an element of uncertainty, given his previous success with India in the ODI World Cup.

For Pakistan to succeed against India at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday, a cohesive team effort will be essential.

How are the pitches at Nassau County?

In the three matches played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium thus far, only one batsman has managed to reach a half-century, with Rohit Sharma scoring 52 against Ireland.

The playing conditions in New York have been far from ordinary, characterized by excessive seam movement and bounce, leading to difficulties for batsmen and instances of players being struck by the ball. These challenging conditions prompted India to opt for a lineup featuring three genuine pacers and two spin-bowling all-rounders in Jadeja and Axar, instead of including Kuldeep Yadav.

“Looking at the pitch and conditions, we are open to make changes and do what is required at that point, but today was a four-seamer pitch and we still managed to get two spinners, who are all-rounders. It gives us balance heading into the game. It [Pakistan game] is going to be a kind of game where all of us need to contribute,” Rohit said after India defeated Ireland on June 5.

In terms of preparations, India is gearing up for challenging batting conditions ahead of their match against Pakistan on Sunday. However, this situation could potentially work in favor of Pakistani pacers, who have previously proven adept at disrupting India’s batting lineup.

With the pitches at Nassau County facilitating low-scoring matches, the pivotal battle is expected to primarily unfold between the batsmen of both teams. Taking this into consideration, India appears to be the clear favorites for the highly anticipated Super Sunday contest in New York.
