According to the Republic TV-PMARQ exit poll, the Mahayuti alliance could win 137-157 seats, whereas the Maha Vikas Aghadi could get 126-147 seats, and others 2-8 seats.

Mahayuti includes BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP).

The Matrize exit poll projected 150-170 seats for the Mahayuti alliance and 110-130 seats for Maha Vikas Aghadi. It said others could get 8-10 seats.

Today’s Chanakya projected that Mahayuti will win 152-150 seats, MVA 130-138 seats, and others 6-8 seats.

‘Peoples Pulse’ projected Mahayuti scoring a decisive victory by getting 175-195 seats. It said Maha Vikas Aghadi is poised to get 85-112 seats and ‘others’ winning 7-12 seats.

The majority mark in the Maharashtra assembly is 145, and the range of Republic TV-PMARQ prediction suggested that even MVA could cross the mark.

This marks the magazine’s second-ever endorsement in its 179-year history. The magazine criticized Donald Trump’s record on these issues and praised Harris’s commitment to progressive policies.
</excerpt>

Magazine’s Second-Ever Endorsement Highlights Policy Differences

In a significant political move, Scientific American magazine has endorsed Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election. This marks the magazine’s second endorsement in its 179-year history, following its first endorsement in 2020 for Joe Biden.

Support for Science and Policy

The prestigious science publication praised Harris for her commitment to advancing reproductive rights, combating climate change, and improving the healthcare system. The magazine’s editors lauded Harris for her reliance on facts, logic, and a willingness to learn from experience. They emphasized her advocacy for clean energy, climate crisis management, and increased employment opportunities through science-based policies.

Sharp Critique of Donald Trump

Scientific American strongly criticized former President Donald Trump’s record. The magazine highlighted Trump’s “disastrous” tenure, pointing out his attempts to cut Medicare and Medicaid, spread misinformation about abortion, and dismantle environmental policies. In contrast, Harris’s policies aim to expand healthcare access through the Affordable Care Act, support reproductive rights, and continue efforts to reduce environmental damage and promote clean energy.

The magazine also noted that many observers, including some of Trump’s allies, believe Harris performed better in the recent presidential debate. The op-ed criticized Trump’s false claims about abortion policies, describing them as misleading and damaging.

The endorsement comes as a critical moment in the election campaign, showcasing a clear contrast between the two candidates on key issues.

</excerpt>

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy dismissed the National Conference’s manifesto for Jammu and Kashmir, stating that promises such as restoring Article 370 are irrelevant because neither Omar Abdullah nor the Congress will come to power in the region. “Omar Abdullah will neither become Chief Minister nor will his party or Congress come to power,” Reddy asserted, emphasizing that the issue of reinstating Article 370 does not arise under the current political scenario.

The National Conference, led by Vice President Omar Abdullah, launched its manifesto ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections scheduled for September 18. The manifesto outlines 12 key guarantees, including the restoration of Article 370 and 35-A, the redrawing of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act of 2019, and the return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.

The manifesto’s primary promise is the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s political and legal status to pre-August 5, 2019 conditions. It also includes efforts to challenge the Centre’s decision to revoke the region’s statehood and special status through a resolution in the first assembly session.
Additional guarantees in the manifesto cover the release of political prisoners, simplified job and passport verification processes, and addressing grievances related to unjust terminations and harassment on highways. A comprehensive job package for youth is also promised, addressing rising unemployment in the region.

Omar Abdullah highlighted the unemployment issues post-August 5, 2019, and the failures in recruitment processes, promising significant measures to address these problems. The manifesto also includes provisions for free electricity up to 200 units, improved water and electricity services, financial support for women in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), and increased widow pensions.
Abdullah criticized opponents for making unrealistic promises and reiterated that his party’s commitments are aimed at genuinely improving conditions in Jammu and Kashmir.

Despite incumbent President Nicolás Maduro’s claims of victory, Blinken’s statement underscores a significant international challenge to the results announced by Venezuela’s government-controlled electoral council. International Pressure […]
</excerpt>

In a bold assertion, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that there is “overwhelming evidence” indicating that Venezuelan opposition candidate Edmundo González won the recent presidential election. Despite incumbent President Nicolás Maduro’s claims of victory, Blinken’s statement underscores a significant international challenge to the results announced by Venezuela’s government-controlled electoral council.

International Pressure Mounts

The announcement of President Maduro’s victory for a third term was met with immediate disputes from the opposition, who claimed that their own vote tally, based on receipts from electronic voting machines, showed a clear victory for González. The opposition’s stance is bolstered by opinion polls conducted prior to the election, which predicted a strong showing for González.

The situation has sparked global concern, with Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia urging Venezuela to release comprehensive election details. The US, European Union, and other G7 countries have also demanded transparency, calling on the Venezuelan government to provide proof of the election results. Meanwhile, Venezuelan allies China, Russia, and Iran have recognized Maduro’s victory.

Calls for Peaceful Transition Amid Protests

The controversy surrounding the election has led to deadly protests in Caracas. Blinken’s intervention is particularly notable given the international community’s skepticism about the fairness of the 2018 election, which led to the recognition of opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim president and subsequent sanctions on Venezuela.

Blinken emphasized the need for a peaceful and respectful transition in line with Venezuelan electoral law and the will of the people. Opposition leader María Corina Machado, who claims to be in hiding, has called for mass demonstrations on Saturday. She asserts that González won by a landslide and has receipts from over 80% of polling stations to support her claim.

Machado has appealed to the international community to act against what she describes as an illegitimate government, pressing for decisive action to address the ongoing electoral crisis in Venezuela.

This result, released after a six-hour delay, dashed opposition hopes of ending 25 years of socialist rule, with rival Edmundo González Urrutia receiving 44.2%.

Italy Casts Doubt on Election Results

Italy’s Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, expressed skepticism regarding the election results in Venezuela and demanded verifiable documents. “I am perplexed,” Tajani wrote on X. “We want the results to be verified with access to documents. The results announcing Maduro’s victory, does it really mirror the will of the people?” The opposition coalition claimed it garnered 70 percent of the vote, rejecting the figures from Maduro’s loyalist electoral authority, which declared him the winner with 51 percent.

Spain Demands Detailed Voting Data

Spain’s Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, called on Venezuela to release broken down and verifiable voting data following the electoral council’s announcement of President Maduro’s victory. Albares emphasized the need for transparency, stating, “What we want is total transparency in the process. And that is why what we are asking for, and what we also expect, is the publication of the results voting table by voting table so that we can verify the results.”

US Voices Serious Concerns

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed serious concerns about the election results, stating, “We’ve seen the announcement just a short while ago by the Venezuela electoral commission. We have serious concerns that the result announced does not reflect the will or the votes of the Venezuelan people.”

Cuba Celebrates Maduro’s Victory

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel celebrated Maduro’s re-election, stating, “Nicolas Maduro, my brother, your victory, which is that of the Bolivarian and Chavista people, has cleanly and unequivocally defeated the pro-imperialist opposition. They also defeated the regional, interventionist and Monroist right. The people spoke and the Revolution won.”

Uruguay Criticizes Election Process

Uruguayan President Luis Lacalle Pou voiced strong criticism of the election process, asserting, “Not that way. It was an open secret. They were going to ‘win’ regardless of the actual results. The process up to election day and counting was clearly flawed. You cannot recognize a triumph if you can’t trust the forms and mechanisms used to achieve it.”

Honduras Sends Revolutionary Greetings

Honduran President Xiomara Castro congratulated Maduro and the people of Venezuela, stating, “Our special congratulations and Democratic, Socialist and Revolutionary greetings to President Nicolas Maduro and the brave people of Venezuela for their unobjectionable triumph, which reaffirms their sovereignty and the historical legacy of the Commander Hugo Chavez.”

Argentina Warns Against Recognizing Fraud

Before the election results were announced, Argentinian President Javier Milei stated, “Argentina will not recognize another fraud and hopes that this time the Armed Forces will defend democracy and popular will.”

EU Calls for Full Transparency

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell urged Venezuela to ensure “full transparency in the electoral process” following the controversial vote. “The people of Venezuela voted on the future of their country peacefully and in large numbers. Their will must be respected. Ensuring full transparency in the electoral process, including detailed counting of votes and access to voting records at polling stations, is vital,” Borrell said in a post on X.

Guatemala Seeks Transparent Results

Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo called for transparent and accurate results in Venezuela’s election, stating, “Venezuela deserves transparent, accurate results that adhere to the will of its people. We receive the results announced by the CNE (electoral authority) with many doubts. This is why electoral observation mission reports are essential, and today more than ever, must defend Venezuelans’ votes.”

Peru Condemns Election Irregularities

Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez Olaechea condemned the election irregularities, stating, “I condemn in all extremity the sum of irregularities with the intention of fraud committed by the Venezuelan government. Peru will not accept the violation of the popular will of the Venezuelan people.” Peru immediately recalled its ambassador to Venezuela for consultations in response to the election results.

</excerpt>

Venezuelans will vote on Sunday in what is considered the most significant election in a quarter-century of socialist rule. President Nicolas Maduro is confident of victory despite the opposition’s growing support and concerns over potential voting irregularities.

Maduro’s Confidence Amid Opposition Challenges

President Maduro, whose 2018 re-election is deemed fraudulent by the United States and other nations, claims Venezuela has the world’s most transparent electoral system. He has warned of a “bloodbath” if he loses, while opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, banned from public office, has endorsed Edmundo Gonzalez, a 74-year-old ex-diplomat known for his calm demeanor.

Gonzalez has gained support even from some former ruling party backers. However, the opposition and observers question the fairness of the election, citing decisions by electoral authorities and arrests of opposition staff designed to create obstacles.

Public Sentiment and Economic Woes

Maduro’s supporters, including those at his closing rally in Caracas, praise his continuation of Hugo Chavez’s legacy. However, others, like 30-year-old public employee Alejandro Goldteims, note mixed feelings about Maduro’s performance, blaming problems on his administration.

Venezuela has faced economic collapse, mass migration, and strained diplomatic relations, exacerbated by sanctions from the United States, the European Union, and others. Maduro promises peace and economic growth, aiming to reduce reliance on oil income, but many Venezuelans are frustrated with high inflation and public service cuts.

Opposition’s Campaign and Public Sentiment

Opposition figures like Angel Luna, a city councilor, express fatigue with the 25-year socialist rule, citing worsening conditions. Retiree Carmen Puente, who sells candy to make ends meet, echoes this sentiment, highlighting the struggles of the elderly.

Gonzalez and Machado advocate for significant changes, hoping to inspire migrant returns. They urge citizens to hold “vigils” at polling stations, expecting military support for the vote outcome. Venezuela’s military has traditionally backed Maduro, with Defense Minister General Vladimir Padrino affirming the armed forces’ respect for the election results.

Election Day and Potential Outcomes

As Election Day approached, 22 people were arrested in connection with the electoral process, with 15 still detained. The attorney general denied political persecution, emphasizing a peaceful election.

Public spending has increased slightly during the campaign, with Maduro opening 70 public works projects, mainly renovations of existing infrastructure. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with results expected Sunday night or in the following days.

Venezuelans face a pivotal moment in deciding their nation’s future amid significant political and economic challenges.

Shortly after the release of the exit poll results for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, political strategist Prashant Kishor took a swipe at what he termed “fake journalists and loudmouth politicians.” Kishor urged the public to refrain from engaging in “useless discussions” and “analyses” propagated by these individuals.

The Jan Suraaj Party chief had earlier predicted that the BJP-led NDA could secure around 303 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, a figure comparable to the party’s performance in the 2019 polls.

In an interview with The Print, conducted hours before the release of the exit poll results, Kishor reiterated his assessment of the BJP’s anticipated success. He highlighted the party’s sustained support in western and northern India while anticipating gains in eastern and southern regions. Kishor also suggested a potential rise in the BJP’s seat tally and vote share in states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.

Various exit polls have projected a favourable outcome for the ruling NDA alliance, with predictions ranging from 335 to 401 seats for the BJP-led coalition. If these projections hold, Prime Minister Narendra Modi could secure a third consecutive term in office, matching the record set by Jawaharlal Nehru.

In Bihar’s Aurangabad, the death toll due to heat wave conditions has reached 12, while four people died in Kaimur district, including a worker on election duty, on Thursday and three people have died in Bihar’s Arrah in Bhojpur district after suffering from extreme heatwaves in the region.

Dr Sahil Raj, a doctor at Kaimur’s Mohania sub-divisional hospital, said that on Thursday, a total of about 40 people had come to the hospital who had been affected by heat stroke.

“Among them, two persons, including polling personnel, had come to me who died due to heat stroke. 30 to 40 people, including police personnel, are undergoing treatment. Many have been sent home after treatment, while others are undergoing treatment,” he said.

Dr. Raj reported that one of his coworkers informed him that Shahnawaz Khan, a teacher by trade, had left for home following his election duties. Khan said that he continued to sleep at home until passing away.
According to Assistant Sub-Inspector Satish Kumar Ravi of the Mohania police station, four bodies of people who passed away from heat stroke have been taken to various locations for postmortems.
Meanwhile, a severe heatwave in the area has claimed the lives of three persons in Bihar’s Arrah in the Bhojpur district.

“Three people have been reported dead. One of them is a home guard who was brought to the hospital but could not be saved. In addition to this, there was a presiding officer in Jagdishpur who was on duty. He was stabilised and then referred, but he died in the hospital. Another person, Rajesh Ram, collapsed,” Bhojpur District Magistrate Mahendra Kumar said.

Speaking about the precautions that have been taken in the district amid the sweltering heat, Kumar said, “The temperature is very high today, and the heat wave is a challenge for us. We have kept the medical team on alert. If any polling personnel or police personnel face any problems, they are being taken to the hospital. Some people have recovered, but these three cases were unfortunate. Police and mobile medical teams are on alert in all hospitals. They will visit police residential areas. In case of complaints, they will be brought to the dedicated heat wave ward at the municipal hospital.”

On conducting elections amid the extreme heatwave conditions in the district, Kumar said, “This is a challenge, but we need to hold elections as well. The polling party that will carry the EVMs has to follow all the dos and don’ts of the heatwave and try their best not to get out in the sun and facilitate the election process.”

In Bihar’s Aurangabad, the death toll due to heat wave conditions has reached 12, with more than 20 patients admitted in different hospitals across the district, officials from the Aurangabad Health Department said.

Bihar is voting in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections, with the final phase scheduled for Saturday, June 1.

Notably, this request for drought mitigation was made in response to the state’s conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections. It calls for immediate relief as well as measures for relief, including a relaxation of the code of behavior that the state had enforced as a result of the polls.

There is a serious water crisis in Marathwada, forcing people to travel in search of drinking water in many of the region’s communities. Even after more than ten days of waiting, the people of Maharashtra are not receiving enough water due to the poor situation in the state.

The government in the letter urged the EC to relax the code of conduct and initiate immediate relief measures, including the provision of drinking water and fodder to citizens and animals in affected regions.

Elections in Maharashtra have been held in the last five phases between 19 April and 20 May 2024. The state, with its 48 Lok Sabha seats, is the second-largest contributor to the lower house of Parliament after Uttar Pradesh known for its political diversity and significant electoral influence, Maharashtra plays a crucial role in shaping national politics.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged as the largest party with 23 seats, followed by the Shiv Sena with 18 seats.

As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to conduct a crucial meeting in Uttar Pradesh on January 30 to assess the state’s preparedness for the upcoming polls. The meeting, scheduled to take place in Lucknow, will involve discussions with key district officers, including the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, Police Commissioner, and Divisional Commissioner from all districts.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, alongside Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel, is expected to lead the discussions during the meeting. Furthermore, the ECI will engage with political parties on January 31, fostering dialogue to address concerns and ensure smooth conduct during the electoral process.

In a recent press conference, the Election Commission emphasized its commitment to reviewing poll preparedness for both Assembly and Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The Commission had previously organized a two-day conference with Chief Electoral Officers from all states and Union Territories, aiming to evaluate the overall readiness for the impending elections.

The full Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, was present at the conference held at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi. This collaborative effort included senior EC HQ officials and Chief Electoral Officers, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to address potential challenges and refine election strategies.

With just six months remaining until the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, political parties are intensifying their campaign efforts to connect with voters. BJP national president JP Nadda, engaged in discussions in Guwahati, highlighted the significance of these preparations. Meanwhile, seat-sharing agreements within political blocs, such as the INDIA partners, continue to be points of contention.

The allocation of seats for the general elections holds particular importance for the Congress, given its recent setbacks in assembly elections in key states. As the political landscape evolves, the Election Commission’s proactive approach aims to ensure a fair, transparent, and efficiently conducted electoral process for the nation.

The conference, held at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi, will focus on deliberations regarding readiness for the scheduled general elections later this year.

Led by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), the full Commission, including senior EC HQ officials and Chief Electoral Officers, actively participated in the meeting. The Election Commission stated, “A two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers of all States/UTs began in New Delhi this morning. The meeting, being held at IIIDEM, is reviewing preparedness for General Elections 2024. The full Commission, led by the CEC, senior EC HQ officials and CEOs are participating.”

In the 2019 general elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made history by securing a record 303 seats out of 542, while the Congress managed only 52 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the first non-Congress full majority Prime Minister to be re-elected, achieved this with an even stronger majority.

With just six months remaining until the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, political parties have already initiated campaign plans to connect with voters. BJP National President JP Nadda recently arrived in Guwahati to chair crucial party meetings in the state as discussions among the INDIA partners aim to reach a seat-sharing agreement for the forthcoming elections. However, seat-sharing within the INDIA bloc remains a significant point of contention.

The allocation of seats for the general elections holds particular importance for the Congress following their significant defeats in the assembly elections in key states such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.

This marked Nadda’s second visit to Haryana in three days, emphasizing the party’s focused campaign.

Previously, Nadda had orchestrated a grand roadshow in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district, drawing enthusiastic support from a jubilant crowd. Criticizing the Congress government in the state, Nadda asserted that the party had failed to fulfill any promises. He attributed the Congress’s electoral setbacks in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan to the unwavering trust people have in Prime Minister Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also joined the electoral fervor with a massive roadshow in Kerala’s Thrissur, accompanied by BJP state president K Surendran and actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi. Addressing the crowd, Modi launched a series of critiques against the INDIA alliance, accusing them of undermining faith and exploiting temples and festivals for personal gains.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Sachin Pilot expressed confidence in the party’s victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections during the ‘Hain Taiyyar Hum’ rally in Nagpur. </excerpt>

Congress will convene a gathering of the state unit chiefs and legislative party leaders of the party on January 4 in New Delhi.

The meeting will be chaired by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and purpose of this meeting is to deliberate on the arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well as the ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’ that will be undertaken by Rahul Gandhi.

Congress announced last month that former Congress president Rahul Gandhi will undertake Bharat Nyaya Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai from January 14 to March 20. This is Rahul Gandhi’s second Yatra after last year’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.

With the Lok Sabha elections likely to be held in April-May, the opposition parties in India bloc have a tough task of breaking the seat-sharing agreement in their bid to unify the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Some parties in India bloc have urged the Congress to be big-hearted. The seat-sharing talks will determine whether the opposition group can forge unity in forming a united front against the BJP.

</excerpt>

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi engaged in discussions with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday evening, stirring speculations about escalating tensions within the INDIA bloc ahead of the 2024 general elections. Sources reveal that the conversation primarily focused on the aftermath of Wednesday’s INDIA meeting, during which Mallikarjun Kharge was proposed as a potential prime ministerial candidate.

Details of the conversation remain undisclosed, but insiders hint at a clash between Nitish Kumar and INDIA leaders on multiple fronts. One contentious issue was the proposed renaming of the bloc as ‘Bharat,’ a suggestion swiftly rejected by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. Sources also suggest Nitish Kumar expressed displeasure, particularly towards Manoj Jha of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, for translating his speech from Hindi to Tamil, catering to leaders from the DMK.

Tensions further escalated as Nitish Kumar reportedly criticized the Congress for its lackluster performance in the recent November Assembly polls. The Congress faced defeat in key heartland states, including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Seat-sharing disputes with allies, such as the JDU, Trinamool Congress, and Samajwadi Party, added to the rift within the opposition bloc.

During the Delhi meeting, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal proposed Mallikarjun Kharge as a potential convener and even Prime Minister if INDIA successfully defeated the BJP. However, Kharge promptly declined, expressing a preference for focusing on winning the election first.

While Nitish Kumar has publicly dismissed talks of prime ministerial ambitions, private speculations suggest otherwise. The recent developments, including Kharge’s nomination, have introduced uncertainties and potential discord within the INDIA bloc, founded to unite opposition forces against the BJP’s electoral machinery. The fallout from this episode raises questions about the alliance’s unity and strategic coherence as the 2024 elections draw near.

The meeting comes on the heels of a tumultuous parliamentary session, marked by the suspension of 92 MPs on Tuesday, followed by an additional 49 MPs from the Lok Sabha on the subsequent day. Initially scheduled for December 6, the INDIA bloc meeting was rescheduled to the third week of December, adding to the significance of the discussions.

This gathering marks the first meeting of the INDIA bloc following the announcement of election results in five states. Notably, Congress emerged victorious in Telangana, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured wins in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh.

The Parliament premises witnessed heightened tensions as opposition MPs staged protests against the mass suspensions, raising concerns about the impact on democratic norms.

Among the prominent figures suspended on Tuesday were Supriya Sule (NCP), Farooq Abdullah (JKNC), Danish Ali (Ex-BSP), Manish Tewari (Congress), Karti Chidambaram (Congress), Shashi Tharoor (Congress), Sudip Bandhopadhyay (TMC), Sushil Kumar Rinku (AAP), and Dimple Yadav (Samajwadi Party).

</excerpt>

After sweeping victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, the BJP is preparing for a possible generational shift in chief ministership, according to party sources. In light of the 2024 general elections, the party is considering appointing new faces to key CM positions in these heartland states.

Despite the presence of experienced former Chief Ministers like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Vasundhara Raje, and Raman Singh, BJP sources highlighted the possibility of ushering in a newer leadership generation.

Following the poll triumphs, the BJP’s top brass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and party chief JP Nadda, engaged in a marathon four-and-a-half-hour deliberation at the Prime Minister’s residence. This meeting pondered the frontrunners for the CM positions in these states.

Earlier consultations with the BJP’s state in-charges by Shah and Nadda gathered information on potential candidates. The central leadership is likely to appoint observers to oversee the election of leaders by newly elected MLAs in these states.

For the Madhya Pradesh CM role, contenders include incumbent Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union ministers Prahlad Patel, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Narendra Singh Tomar, and senior leader Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Meanwhile, in Rajasthan, the array of potential candidates includes former CM Vasundhara Raje, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Ram Meghwal, state president C. P. Joshi, and other prominent leaders.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh is one of the candidates, along with State BJP President Arun Kumar Sao, opposition leader Dharamlal Kaushik, and former IAS officer O P Chaudhary. Nonetheless, the BJP’s penchant for surprise selections keeps the final decision shrouded in mystery.

</excerpt>

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to hand over around 71,000 appointment letters next week. The event is scheduled for 13 April, and appointment letters will be distributed at 45 locations across all states except Karnataka, where the Model Code of Conduct is in force.

According to information, a major number of appointment letters will be from the railroads 50,000, posts 6,000, the Department of Financial Services, and the Ministry of Defence. It is being said that most of the new recruitment in the railways will be for Group-C services, and these include gangmen and pointsmen. Appointment letters will also be handed over to the new commercial clerks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has so far presided over the job fairs, which are part of the government’s announcement to provide 10 lakh jobs before the next Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Recently, the Ministry of Railways informed the Lok Sabha that there are 3.15 lakh vacancies, and most of them are in Group-C services. In a written reply to a question, it also informed the lower house that it has set a target to complete the recruitment of around 38,000 people for Group C services by the end of March 2023.

</excerpt>

As the Bhartiya Janata Party celebrates its 44th Foundation Day, PM Modi while addressing the celebration said that the party is committed to taking tough steps to remove corruption, nepotism and law and order challenges. He also slammed people with a “baadshahi” mindset for insulting the poor and backwards after the party stormed to power after the 2014 elections.

PM Modi addressed the party workers and cautioned against their complacency as he said that it is being already said that the party is undefeatable in the 2024 elections.

“Despite being the world’s biggest political party, we don’t have to be complacent. People have already started saying that no one can defeat the BJP in 2024. This is true but as BJP workers we have to win the heart of every citizen of the country,” he said.

Accusing the Congress and other political parties of being linked to nepotism, dynasty, casteism, and regionalism, Modi attacked them for carrying the culture of the main opposition party. He claimed that the BJP symbolises a new way of thinking that embraces everyone.

The prime minister claimed that these parties have been going through an existential crisis and have resorted to making accusations and conspiracies against the ruling party without mentioning the multiple accusations made by these parties against his government. They are angry and hateful, he said.

”Today, they have become so desperate that they have openly started saying ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’ (your grave will be dug),” he said, asserting the support of the poor, tribals, backwards, Dalits and women among others will continue to protect ‘lotus’ and help it bloom.

PM Modi drew parallels with Lord Hanuman as his birth anniversary is being observed on Thursday. He asserted that the party believes in the idea of selfless service.

He said, ”The BJP has taken birth from the womb of democracy, and has been nourished and nurtured with the nectar of democracy.”

N Chandrababu Naidu, the president of the Telugu Desam Party and a former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, has declared that if his party is not elected to power in the 2024 elections, he will step down. At a roadshow in this district late on Wednesday night, Naidu recalled his promise to hold off on entering the Assembly until the TDP regained power. He spoke in an emotional tone.

“If I have to go (back) to the Assembly, if I have to stay in politics and if justice is to be done to Andhra Pradesh…unless you ensure our victory in the next election…that could well be my last election,” Naidu said. “Will you bless me? Do you trust me,” he asked the people, who responded rapturously.

The 175-member AP Assembly is made up of 23 MLAs for the TDP.

The Leader of Opposition had pledged on November 19, 2021 to enter the Andhra Pradesh Assembly once more only after regaining power. He did this after alleging that the ruling YSR Congress had insulted his wife on the floor of the House. At the roadshow, Naidu reminded attendees of his vow, saying that if he were not re-elected, the following elections would be his last.

“I will only set things right and put the state back on the track of progress and hand over the future to others,” he added. This should become a point of debate in each household. “My fight is for the future of children, future of the state. It’s not a tall talk. I had done it before and there is a model (to prove it),” the TDP chief noted. “Think about it. Weigh the pros and cons. If what I am saying is right, cooperate with me,” he urged the people. Naidu observed that he was “physically very fit.”

“Some people are mocking at my age. I and (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi are of the same age. (Biden) became American President at the age of 79,” the 72-year old TDP leader said.

“I will develop (the state) and create wealth. That will increase the revenue and with that we will implement the welfare schemes. In fact, we will do better but, unlike (Chief Minister) Jagan Mohan Reddy, we will not borrow heavily for that,” the former Chief Minister said.

He emphasised how the governing system had forced the nation into a debt trap by making arbitrary borrowing decisions. Naidu continued, “They even mortgaged the state’s assets to raise loans significantly.”

A number of Union ministers are expected to visit Tamil Nadu before the end of the year, according to local party leaders who are aware of the developments. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is attempting to establish a presence in the state.
The Vernacular media also quoted BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai telling reporters last Monday that the 76 union ministers will come to the state.

“Our alliance with the AIADMK is good. There is no problem. But there is nothing wrong in us being ambitious for our party’s growth,” said a BJP state minister, not wishing to be named. “We are certainly more visible now than we have been before.”
Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Smriti Irani visited Chennai and Coimbatore, respectively, earlier this month to monitor the advancement of programmes supported by the Center in Tamil Nadu.

Last Sunday at a bus stop in Chennai, Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Textile, opened stalls for union government programmes. He accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam administration of corruption and irregularities during his two-day visit.
You all also have to grow. Not just one family,” he said.

“We have to take our schemes to the people,” said a BJP leader.

“The aim is to turn our beneficiaries into our voters. There is no doubt that the AIADMK leads the alliance, but by the next assembly election, BJP will want to come on its own in Tamil Nadu.”
With chief minister and president of the DMK M K Stalin taking a hard stand against the imposition of Hindi, the state BJP has recently been forced to go on the defensive. After Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Hindi should be the unifying language, he issued a warning. Stalin has written two letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi opposing the claim that the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language, which is reportedly chaired by Shah, recommended that Hindi be used instead of English as the primary language of instruction in all central educational institutions. On Monday, the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly moved a motion against it.
BJP chief Annamalai said that no committee made any recommendation as alleged by the DMK, and in such a hypothetical situation they would oppose it.
