Early Days: From U19 World Cup Triumph to International Stardom

Kohli first garnered attention as a promising young player when he led India to victory in the 2008 ICC U19 World Cup. This achievement highlighted his potential, and his growth since then has been an inspiring story of resilience and fitness. Known for his aggressive style and laser-sharp focus, Kohli has transformed into a symbol of the modern Indian cricketing spirit.

A Record-Breaking Test Career

Since his international debut in 2008, Kohli has left an indelible mark on Test cricket. Playing 118 matches, he has scored 9,040 runs at an average of 47.83, with 29 centuries to his name. His peak form came between 2016 and 2019, when he amassed 4,208 runs at an impressive average of 66.79, setting the record for seven double centuries as a captain. Kohli also holds the title of India’s most successful Test captain, leading the team to 40 victories in 68 matches.

Dominance in One Day Internationals (ODIs)

ODI cricket remains Kohli’s best format, where he has scored 13,906 runs in 295 matches at an average of 58.18, with a landmark 50 centuries. Known as the “chasemaster,” Kohli has broken numerous records in ODIs, including being the fastest player to reach every thousand-run milestone from 8,000 to 13,000 runs. His 50th ODI century, achieved in the 2023 World Cup, saw him surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, a memorable moment witnessed by Tendulkar himself.

T20 Success and Milestones

Kohli’s T20 International (T20I) career is equally decorated, with 4,188 runs in 125 matches at an average of 48.69. His performances in the 2024 T20 World Cup were instrumental in India clinching the title, and his tournament records have cemented his status as one of T20 cricket’s highest run-scorers. Kohli is also the only player to win the “Player of the Tournament” title twice in the T20 World Cup, underscoring his impact on the format.

Achieving Success Across All Major ICC Tournaments

Kohli holds a unique achievement as the only cricketer to have won all major ICC tournaments, including the U19 World Cup, the 50-over World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and the ICC World Test Championship mace. His contributions across formats and tournaments reflect his consistency and versatility as a player.

IPL Star and Franchise Records

In franchise cricket, Kohli shines as the highest scorer in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, with 8,004 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). His accomplishments include winning the Orange Cap twice and setting a high bar for scoring in the league, despite never securing an IPL title for RCB.

Kohli’s Legacy: Awards and Global Impact

Virat Kohli’s career is adorned with awards, including ICC Cricketer of the Decade (2011-2020) and multiple ICC Cricketer of the Year titles. He is celebrated for his impact both as a cricketer and a leader, inspiring fans worldwide and elevating the sport with his dedication and passion. As he continues his journey, Kohli’s legacy as a cricket icon only grows, setting new standards for future generations.
