Sachin Tendulkar Urges BCCI, ECB to Honour Pataudi Legacy With Bold Move

Indian cricket team legend Sachin Tendulkar has communicated with both BCCI and England Cricket Board (ECB) administrators regarding maintaining the Pataudi legacy going in the India England Test series, as per a Cricbuzz report. The two cricket boards agreed to title the India-England Test series scheduled to take place the ‘Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy’ instead of the Pataudi Trophy following ECB’s reported decision to retire it. But the move was terribly opposed and even Tendulkar himself has reportedly intervened to save the Pataudi heritage.

Pataudi Link Likely to Be Retained After Intervention by Sachin Tendulkar

According to the report, following the request, it is likely that a medallion in the name of late MAK Pataudi will be presented to the winning captain. “Yes, there is a confirmed plan to retain the Pataudi link in the England-India series,” an ECB official told Cricbuzz.

Test rubbers earlier between India and England in the UK had been contested for the trophy bearing the name of Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. The ECB wrote to the Pataudi family in March stating they wished to retire the trophy.

Two Icons: Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson

One of the greatest players in the history of the game, Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in Test cricket with 15,921 runs. The 52-year-old played 200 Tests between 1989 and 2013 and has broken countless records in both Test and ODI formats. Revered for his impeccable technique and mental strength, he is widely regarded as the face of modern Indian cricket.

James Anderson, meanwhile, is England’s highest wicket-taker in history as well as the most prolific pace bowler in Test cricket with 704 wickets. Known for his mastery of swing and remarkable longevity, Anderson has redefined fast bowling with his ability to thrive across conditions for over two decades.

Since hanging his boots in international cricket last summer, the 42-year-old has also been serving as England’s bowling consultant and is currently representing Lancashire in county cricket after signing an extension to his contract.

A Shared Legacy on the Field

The two greats shared the playing field for 14 Tests, and Anderson bowled out Tendulkar on nine occasions the maximum by any bowler against the Indian icon.

England are the current and last trophy holders of the Pataudi Trophy, who retained it with a 2-2 tie in a series spread over 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
