Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma was the lone important batter to avoid net practice on Wednesday prior to the Champions Trophy 2025 game against New Zealand, Times of India said. The Indian team practiced at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Academy after defeating Pakistan. Although all the players warmed up with football and jogging laps, Rohit avoided any rigorous exercise.
Rohit Under Close Observation
The report indicated that Rohit “jogged softly under the supervision of Strength & Conditioning coach Soham Desai” but did not have free movement. He injured his hamstring in the Pakistan match but eased concerns among fans during the post-match presentation, stating, “I am doing fine, and there is no cause for any worry.”
Rohit did not attend any throwdown sessions but did shadow batting while discussing with head coach Gautam Gambhir and other coaching staff.
Virat Kohli Confronts Spinners, Shami Shines in Nets
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, had a prolonged session confronting spinners such as Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja. He also trained with net bowlers for more than half an hour ahead of the key game on Sunday.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami was in top gear, swinging the ball both ways and even hitting Kohli on the pads twice. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh also showed intensity during the practice session.
Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Joins Team
Bowling coach Morne Morkel, who had departed for a personal emergency, joined the team again. He was spotted talking tactics with head coach Gautam Gambhir as the players finished their warm-up exercises.
Shubman Gill, India’s star performer till now in the tournament, was the lone player missing from the practice session.
