Indian javelin champion Neeraj Chopra kicked off his 2025 season with a strong win at the Paris Diamond League, held at Charlety Stadium on 21 June. The two-time Olympic gold medallist secured first place in the men’s javelin event with a throw of 88.16 metres, which he achieved on his very first attempt.

A Powerful Start That Set the Pace

Chopra dominated the competition from the beginning. His massive opening throw put him in the lead early on, and no one could surpass it for the rest of the event. Julian Weber from Germany came close, managing a best of 87.88 metres, but he fell short of overtaking Chopra in any of his six throws. Meanwhile, Brazil’s Luiz da Silva impressed everyone by taking third place with a personal best of 86.62 metres.

First Major Win of the Season

This Paris win was Chopra’s first big triumph of 2025. Earlier in May, he had finished second at the Doha Diamond League, where Weber took the win in a dramatic final round with a long throw. That event was memorable as both Chopra and Weber crossed the 90-metre mark for the first time in their careers.

Upcoming Competitions for Chopra

Neeraj Chopra is scheduled to compete again at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czechia on 24 June. After that, he will return to India to participate in the first-ever Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on 5 July.
