The Calcutta high court directed Indian pacer Mohammed Shami to pay ₹4 lakh each month to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and daughter.
Court Breaks Down Monthly Maintenance Allocation
A division bench of Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee passed the directive on a petition filed by Hasin Jahan and ordered Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami to pay ₹1.5 lakh to her wife and ₹2.5 lakh to her daughter monthly.
“In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs. 1,50,000/- per month to the petitioner no.1(wife) and Rs. 2,50,000/- to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners…” the court said in its order on July 1.
Mohammed Shami Free to Pay More for Daughter’s Education
The court further added that Shami is also not bound from voluntarily paying educational or other costs in addition to what has been mentioned for her daughter.
Jahan had moved the high court against an order of a district sessions court to Shami in 2023 to pay ₹50,000 to her wife and ₹80,000 to her daughter.
Jahan Sought ₹10 Lakh Total Compensation
She had claimed a compensation of ₹7 lakh per month for herself and ₹3 lakh for her daughter before the court.
Jahan was a model and cheerleader for the Kolkata Knight Riders prior to marriage with Shami in 2014. The couple had their daughter in 2015.
Allegations Against Mohammed Shami Sparked Major Controversy
In 2018, Jahan made allegations of domestic violence, dowry harassment and match-fixing against Shami. Jahan accused the pacer of having received money from a Pakistani lady. Jahan had also accused her husband for stopping payment to her to fund her family’s bills.
The complaint led BCCI to suspend the central contract of the pacer. The board went on to clear Shami from match-fixing charges after an inquiry.
