John Cena On WWE Retirement: ‘I’m Just Not As Enthusiastic’

WWE legend John Cena has confirmed that his wrestling career will officially come to an end in December 2025. Speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Cena confirmed that his ongoing farewell tour is not a gimmick.

“We are already halfway through the farewell tour. It’s been pretty incredible, and I think we are getting now to a point that audiences are understanding that I will be done in December,” he said. “There is no realism with professional wrestling and retirement, but I will absolutely be done by the end of the year.”

‘I’m Just Not As Enthusiastic As I Used To Be,’ Says John Cena

Cena, now 48, admitted that his enthusiasm for the physically demanding sport has faded. “I am 48, and I am just not as enthusiastic as I used to be. The experience has been great because each arena is different. Some audiences like me, some don’t, and some even hate me, but it’s great,” he joked.

In another interview on The Good Morning Show, Cena reflected on how his decision to retire stemmed from concerns. Concerns, especially about health and performance were troubling. “It was just a battle with myself of how long I could ignore those red flags until it just became counterproductive. I still look good, and I feel good, but I think it is time for me to step aside and let the young talent step forward.”

Retirement Is Real This Time

Though wrestling retirements are often temporary, Cena appears firm in his resolve. “You think I’m joking, but I will be done,” he emphasized, adding that now fans finally believe him, the atmosphere during his farewell tour has become “electrifying.”

John Cena will face CM Punk at Night of Champions on June 28 in Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.

The WWE Undisputed Championship match could be one of Cena’s last appearances in the ring. He won the title at WrestleMania 41 and has defended it successfully since.
