The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on March 1, 2025, to elect a new joint secretary. The post fell vacant after Devjit Saikia was promoted to board secretary.

Moreover, Jay Shah was elevated as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1, 2024.

BCCI Issues SGM Notice

As per the regulations of BCCI, the board has issued a formal notice to all state cricket associations. The notice listed out the agenda for the upcoming meeting. The SGM would solely be focused on the election and induction of the new joint secretary.

“Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting (hereinafter referred to as SGM) of the BCCI, which will be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI,” the apex board said in a statement.

Prospective Candidates

Here are a few of the well-known personalities whose names are floating around in connection with this role. The first prominent name that emerged is Avishek Dalmiya, the former President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (East Zone).

The second name for the role is Rohan Jaitley, the President of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (North Zone), followed by Sanjay Naik from the Mumbai Cricket Association (West Zone).

No Election for the Post

Like the recently appointed secretary and treasurer of the BCCI, no election will be held for the post of joint secretary. The appointment will be made based on consensus among the board members. In addition to this, BCCI has been following rules related to giving a notice of 21 days before calling the SGM.

This would be the board’s second SGM in less than two months. On January 12, Devjit Saikia was elected as secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as treasurer, both unopposed. The newly elected joint secretary of BCCI will work on general administrative affairs alongside other board members. Ensuring a seamless flow of proceedings within the BCCI.
