AB de Villiers Says Virat Kohli Gave Him Silent Treatment for Months—Here’s Why

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers revealed that Virat Kohli did not speak to him for several months, possibly due to a personal blunder. In a recent conversation with Cricket.com, de Villiers hinted that Kohli was upset after he accidentally shared news about Anushka Sharma’s pregnancy during a livestream last year.

At the time, de Villiers confirmed that the couple was expecting their second child, shortly after Kohli took a break from international cricket, opting out of India’s home Test series against England. However, he later admitted the news was incorrect. “I did have a bit of a footfall not too long ago when they were expecting their second child,” he said.

The Silence Breaks After IPL 2025 Triumph

Despite the misstep, de Villiers and Kohli recently reunited following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic first IPL title win earlier this month. The duo embraced after the final victory over Punjab Kings, marking a significant moment for the franchise’s long-time stalwarts.

De Villiers shared, “He’s been in touch with me over the last six months. Thank goodness! I was very relieved when he started talking to me again.”

Kohli Leaned on ABD During Tough Phase

The South African legend also revealed that Kohli sought his advice during a challenging period, coinciding with his retirement from Test cricket. “We all know he went through a bit of a patch and sort of wanted to bounce a few ideas off me,” de Villiers said.

He added that they spoke about how to navigate personal and professional struggles. “There are a lot of things that weigh on you, and so I shared with him from the heart… I’m happy he is still around playing cricket and that decision comes from the heart and I support him 100 per cent with that.”

Their recent camaraderie appears to have restored a cherished friendship that had gone cold, reminding fans of their iconic bond on and off the field.
