The popular Punjabi actress and daughter of the late Kirti Kisan Union leader Baldev Singh, has joined the Aam Aadmi Party in the presence of the party’s national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday.

The transition from a glittering career in the cinema world into the political realm was officially made public by the AAP’s social media handle. The joining has been viewed politically as of great significance as preparations are started for the elections of the assembly in Punjab in 2027.

Post of Aam Aadmi Party

The Aam Aadmi Party Punjab unit has posted on X, “The daughter of Kirti Kisan Union leader S. Baldev Singh Ji and Punjabi actress Sonia Mann joined the Aam Aadmi Party under the aegis of National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. She is very welcome in the Aam Aadmi Party family.”

Cinema to Politics

Sonia Mann worked in various film industries: Punjabi, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, and Marathi cinema. She debuted in cinema with a Malayalam film, ‘Hide-n-Seek’. In 2014,  she enter in Bollywood with ‘Kahin Hai Mera Pyar’ film. In 2018, she collaborated with the late singer Sidhu Moosewala.

Sonia has worked on films like ‘Motor Mitraan Di’ film and ’25 Kille’. Mann follows through on her father’s political legacy. A well-known farmer leader, Baldev Singh, was killed by Khalistani militants in the 1980s.

By joining AAP, Sonia Mann symbolizes a seismic shift in the political terrain of Punjab, along with that of younger and cultural figures beginning to align with AAP. Sonia Mann joining AAP would further consolidate AAP’s focus on Punjab, especially about the upcoming state elections in 2027.
