New Delhi: One of the most anticipated announcements in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the schedule for the election of the party’s National President, expected to be revealed this month. The BJP is gearing up for significant leadership changes, with elections at both the state and national levels set to shape the party’s future direction.

Sources indicate that the election process may begin around the time of the Hindu New Year, with the entire process set to conclude by mid-April. The candidate for the position of president will also be announced soon. Additionally, the election of state presidents in several states is picking up momentum. The process is expected to be completed in more than half of the states after Holi. In key states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, discussions are already underway to build consensus on the selection of new state presidents. This phase of elections is crucial as it sets the stage for leadership changes and organizational strengthening within the BJP at both the national and state levels. Overall

The BJP’s decision on the new state president for Uttar Pradesh is expected to surprise many. After Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Delhi last week, where he met with several top party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it appears that a consensus has been reached on the new state president. This time, the party may choose a Brahmin leader rather than Bhupendra Chaudhary. Although there were discussions about selecting a Dalit leader due to the opposition’s focus on backward caste politics in the upcoming general elections, the BJP seems to be leaning towards an upper caste leader in Uttar Pradesh, considering the current political environment. Leaders such as Harish Dwivedi and MP Dinesh Sharma are among the names being considered.

Similarly, in Uttarakhand, the party is likely to pick a state president from the upper caste, with a strong possibility that the leader will be from the Garhwal division. Names like Vinod Chamoli, Aditya Kothari, and Brijbhushan Gairola are being discussed as potential replacements for the current state president, Ajay Bhatt.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP is considering Narottam Mishra as a candidate for state president to replace BD Sharma. Given the current caste dynamics in the state, the party is likely to choose a Brahmin leader, making Mishra a strong contender for the role.

Once the state presidents are chosen in these three states, the election process will be nearly completed in more than half of the states. This will position the party to hold the national president’s election soon after Holi, as by that time, elections will have been completed in more than 20 states. According to the party’s constitution, the election of the national president can only take place after at least 18 states have held their elections, so the BJP will be ready to announce the national president’s election program later this month.

The party is expected to announce the candidate for the national president position by consensus. It is speculated that the name of the new national president will be revealed during the upcoming Navratri festival, which starts on March 30. The Hindu New Year will also begin around this time, and the national president’s election could be completed by mid-April. The new president could be announced at the BJP’s National Council meeting scheduled for April 18.

Several prominent leaders are in the race for the national president position, including Bhupendra Yadav, Dharmendra Yadav, CR Patil, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Manohar Lal Khattar, G Kishan Reddy, and B Srinivasan. Bhupendra Yadav is considered a potential candidate who could garner consensus between the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and Prime Minister Modi. His selection could also help balance caste equations in key states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
