AutoNxt Automation has emerged as a trailblazer in India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape, particularly in the agricultural sector. At the forefront of this transformation is Kaustubh Dhonde, Founder and CEO of AutoNxt, whose vision is redefining how Indian farms operate—quietly, sustainably, and more efficiently. In this exclusive conversation, Dhonde discusses the inspiration behind building India’s first electric tractor, the challenges of transitioning from diesel, and how AutoNxt’s innovations are reshaping farm life across varied terrains and tasks.

Q1: AutoNXT has been a pioneer in India’s EV tractor segment. What inspired the shift from diesel to electric in agriculture, and what challenges did you face while making this transition?

A1:The shift from diesel to electric was inspired by a simple yet powerful observation: agriculture in India is ripe for innovation, and our farmers deserve technology that is both sustainable and cost-effective. Diesel tractors, while robust, come with rising fuel costs, high maintenance, and harmful emissions. We saw electric tractors as a solution that could drastically cut operational costs and improve environmental outcomes.

However, transitioning wasn’t easy. The biggest challenge was building a tractor that could match diesel’s performance without compromising on power, torque, or durability. Battery optimization for long field hours and creating rugged EV drivetrains for rural conditions were major hurdles. Farmer mindset and infrastructure readiness also required strategic education and collaboration. But with rigorous field testing, real-time feedback, and relentless R&D, we’re proud to say we’ve created a product that’s future-ready and farmer-friendly.

Q2: Your tractors are known for significantly reducing noise pollution. How has this feature improved life on cattle-driven farms and impacted animal welfare during daily tasks like fodder cutting and cattle feeding?

A2: Noise pollution is an overlooked but serious issue in rural ecosystems. Traditional diesel tractors produce significant sound, which stresses livestock and disrupts daily farm life. Our electric tractors operate almost silently, creating a calmer environment, especially on cattle-driven farms.

This makes a noticeable difference during tasks like fodder cutting and cattle feeding, where animals are in close proximity to machines. Farmers have told us their cattle appear less agitated and more responsive, which has a direct impact on productivity. It’s a small change with a big ripple effect—healthier animals, smoother farm operations, and less mental fatigue for farmers themselves.

Q3: How do AutoNXT’s electric tractors improve operational efficiency and the working environment in high-intensity settings such as sugar mills and large-scale farms compared to traditional diesel tractors?

A3:In high-intensity environments like sugar mills and commercial farms, uptime and efficiency are non-negotiable. AutoNXT electric tractors deliver instant torque, which translates to quicker response times and better performance, especially during operations like trailer hauling or loader work.

They also require minimal maintenance—no engine oil, fewer moving parts, and less frequent servicing—so there’s less downtime. Operators benefit from lower vibrations and noise, which reduces fatigue over long shifts. Plus, with our smart connectivity features, farm managers can monitor usage patterns and battery health in real-time, allowing for better resource planning and preventive maintenance. In essence, we’re not just improving machines—we’re transforming the entire workflow.

Q4: In many parts of rural India, the impact of machinery noise often goes unnoticed. How do your silent electric tractors contribute to the overall well-being of farmers, workers, and livestock during activities like spraying and transporting sugarcane?

A4: Absolutely. In rural India, people have grown used to the constant hum and clatter of diesel engines. But just because it’s normalized doesn’t mean it’s harmless. Prolonged exposure to loud machinery affects hearing, causes stress, and even interferes with communication between workers.

Our electric tractors are almost silent, which has a profound impact during spraying or sugarcane transport—operations that require concentration and teamwork. With lower decibel levels, farmers can work longer hours without the usual fatigue, coordinate more effectively, and maintain harmony around livestock. It’s not just a matter of comfort—it’s about improving long-term health, safety, and quality of life on the farm.

Q5: With a diverse range of applications—like spraying, fodder cutting, cattle feeding, and transporting goods—how does AutoNXT ensure its electric tractors meet the performance expectations of Indian farmers across varied terrains and workloads?

A5: India’s farms are diverse—not just in crops but in climate, soil, and topography. That’s why we designed AutoNXT tractors to be modular, adaptable, and intelligent. Our drivetrain is engineered to deliver high torque at low speeds, making it ideal for both soft soils and steep gradients. Whether it’s precision spraying in vineyards or hauling produce in sugarcane belts, the tractor adjusts effortlessly.

We also offer a range of battery capacities and attachment compatibilities to suit different farm sizes and use cases. Our embedded software ensures optimal power management and even provides usage insights to help farmers make data-driven decisions. Most importantly, we continuously incorporate feedback from the field into our design. We’re not building for the average farm—we’re building for every farm.
