Tragedy struck as an engineer and his colleague lost their lives at the under-construction Gobar gas plant on Tapa-Tajoke road, succumbing to gas suffocation. The unfortunate incident occurred during the construction of the Gobar Gas Plant by Tapa resident Tarsem Chand.
Around 12:30 pm, engineer Anil Kumar (42), son of Om Singh, and his partner Mohit Kumar, a resident of Narshan Kalan (Haridwar), were working in a pit approximately 10 feet deep, cutting pipes to facilitate the construction. A ladder was placed in the pit, and unexpectedly, it slipped, causing Anil Kumar to fall into the pit along with the ladder.
In an attempt to rescue Anil Kumar, his companion descended into the pit, but both lost their lives due to gas suffocation. Upon learning about the incident, the plant owner and other employees promptly called for an ambulance from Mini Sahara Club and sought help from nearby individuals. Unfortunately, by the time assistance arrived, both workers had succumbed to gas poisoning.
Upon extracting the bodies and notifying the Tapa police, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Satpal Singh took possession of the bodies, placing them in the mortuary chamber of Barnala.
