The Food Safety Team, led by Hoshiarpur District Health Officer Dr. Lakhveer Singh, cracked down on unhygienic practices in the fish and meat market of Rahim Yar Khan. During the inspection, it was observed that the vendors were openly selling meat and fish without proper covering, violating hygiene standards. The crackdown comes as a response to numerous complaints from the public and residents of the area.
Notably, the sellers were not adhering to cleanliness norms, with many operating without proper headgear or aprons. Additionally, the sale of unclean and low-quality chicken, which is globally considered unhygienic, was also noted. These sellers, who are contributing to global contamination, are now facing stringent action.
The incident unfolded when Dr. Lakhveer Singh, along with the Food Safety Team, conducted an inspection in response to escalating public complaints. The inspection revealed that the sellers were openly selling meat and fish without proper covering and hygiene measures.
In response to these unhygienic practices, the authorities have issued a notice to the meat and fish vendors, giving them a week to comply with food safety standards. Failure to meet the specified conditions within the given timeframe will result in the sealing of their shops.
Dr. Lakhveer Singh emphasized that, according to the Food Safety Act, the cutting of meat and fish cannot be done openly along roadsides. Instead, it must be carried out within the shops with proper hygiene standards, including the use of glass partitions.
Dr. Lakhveer Singh appealed to the consumers not to buy meat and fish from unregistered and unhygienic vendors. He urged residents to be cautious and check for the necessary licenses when purchasing meat and fish to ensure the safety of their health.
