In response to a complaint about illegal sand mining, a Mining Department officer faced intimidation and interference from the sand mafia while conducting an investigation. The incident occurred in Kilche village.
According to the complaint filed at the Sadar police station, Gursimran Singh Gill, the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Mining Department, received information about unauthorized sand extraction along the banks of the Satluj River in Kilche village. As he proceeded to the location with his team, he intercepted an individual transporting a tractor-trolley loaded with sand. The SDO requested verification of the slip, revealing that the sand was loaded using a JCB machine under the supervision of Sarpanch Kulbir Singh from Akkuwala village.
The SDO stationed Junior Engineer Vikas near the tractor-trolley and proceeded towards Kilche village himself. On reaching the site, Sarpanch Kulbir Singh, along with Sonu and two unidentified individuals engaged in illegal sand extraction, fled upon seeing him. They later returned on a motorcycle, issuing threats to halt the sand extraction. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against Kulbir Singh, Sonu, and their two unknown associates under IPC and the Mining Act, and further legal action is underway.[
