Indian-origin rapper Genesis Yasmine Mohanraj, better known as Tommy Genesis, has come under fire for her latest music video True Blue, which has gone viral for the wrong reasons. The Canadian rapper is depicted in the video as painted blue, dressed in gold bling, and sporting a red bindi—clearly taking cues from a Hindu goddess. She also invokes a Christian cross in ways that have caused offense among both Hindu and Christian communities.
In one of the most hotly contested scenes, Tommy Genesis licks the cross and holds it close to her derrière, an act many viewers criticized as sacrilegious. The imagery immediately offended, with pundits charging she disrespected religious convictions in order to drum up publicity. The virtual backlash has been strong, with many labeling her actions as ‘blasphemy’ and a ‘cheap ploy’ to incite and viralize.

Blasphemy (sic).” Another watcher commented, “Her new song openly mocks both Hindu and Christian faiths. This is not creativity this is pure disrespect (sic).”
This is Genesis Yasmine Mohanraj.
Yasmine is a Canadian citizen of Malayalam, Tamil and Swedish descent.
Her Indian descent makes it very likely that her makeup is deliberately done to hurt Hindu sentiments.
