There was an extensive discussion at the residence of the Central Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, with the National President of the Farmers’ Mahapanchayat, Ram Pal Jat. This discussion revolved around the ERCP issue. During this discussion, various arguments were presented by the Farmers’ Mahapanchayat, based on which the project could be declared a national project.
On this matter, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat explained that with the integration of this project along with the Parvati, Kalisindh, and Chambal National Link Project, Rajasthan will receive 2464 MCM of water. This will lead to the rejuvenation of irrigation in the region due to the overflowing of 26 dams, and more than 2 lakh new irrigated areas will be developed. For this project, 90% of the total cost will be provided by the Center under the Prime Minister’s Irrigation Scheme.
On the other hand, there is an appeal from the farmers to declare it a national project and for the government to officially announce it. The Union Minister for Water Resources also mentioned the need to study the book on guaranteeing minimum support prices for purchase after the study was conducted.
