The process of establishing a new office for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Chandigarh has begun, with the allocation of land for the purpose. Currently, the ED office in northern India is located in Jalandhar. The Jalandhar range covers states including Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and the union territory of Chandigarh. Now, Chandigarh is set to become the central hub for the ED office in northern India. The Chandigarh administration has allotted 1.72 acres of land in Sector 38 West for this purpose.
The allocated land is situated between the Labor Bureau office and Gurudwara Sant Sar Sahib. The construction of the ED office in Chandigarh is estimated to cost Rs 59.13 crores, and it has already received approval. The Chandigarh administration allotted the land in response to the demand from the Enforcement Directorate. The ED office in Chandigarh is expected to have 220 employees.
There are also plans to develop a residential colony in the vicinity for the employees. The ED had written to the Chandigarh administration, stating that while their current office is in Jalandhar, the upcoming office in Chandigarh will be the largest in the northern region. The demand for housing for the working staff has been made, and approximately 14,890 square meters of land will be prepared for flats for the employees.
