Delhi prepares for Kanwar Yatra

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is rigorously preparing for the much-awaited Kanwar Yatra. Authorities across the capital are taking all necessary steps to ensure that the religious procession is conducted smoothly and efficiently. Delhi’s Home Minister, Ashish Sood, recently chaired a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat to assess the preparations underway for the event.

The Minister instructed that all government departments must work in seamless inter-departmental coordination and remain fully alert and ready to ensure that Kanwar Yatra is conducted peacefully, securely, and in an organized manner. Sood announced that Kanwar organisers will receive full administrative support through a single-window system at District Magistrates’ offices to simplify the approval process.

He assured that the safety and comfort of the lakhs of devotees would be a top priority, with all departments instructed to ensure smooth passage, proper sanitation, drinking water availability, electricity supply, and effective traffic management. He also directed the power department to promptly resolve any electricity-related issues, particularly during the monsoon season. Civic agencies were asked to establish rest points equipped with clean toilets, drinking water, lighting, and uninterrupted power along the Yatra route and at camp locations.

Sood further stated that the Delhi Police has been directed to deploy adequate numbers of both male and female personnel along the Yatra routes and at camp sites to maintain public order and manage traffic effectively. Sensitive areas along the pilgrimage route will be reinforced with permanent barricades to guide pilgrims and prevent unauthorised detours or intrusions into restricted zones.

The Minister instructed police to monitor sound systems in camps near residential areas, ensuring that devotional music adheres to permitted hours to avoid disturbing locals. Officers will be directed to politely urge pilgrims to keep noise levels low during nighttime hours. Coordination with police forces from neighbouring states was also recommended to enhance overall safety.

Additionally, Delhi Fire Services were directed to deploy small fire tenders near camp locations for a quick emergency response. Sood reiterated the Delhi government’s strong commitment to ensuring that Kanwar pilgrims can perform their religious observances with full respect and spiritual devotion. At the same time, he stressed the importance of minimising inconvenience to the general public and maintaining the city’s regular operations.

He noted that this is the first major religious event taking place under the current administration, with thousands of devotees expected to arrive from across the country. He assured that the government is dedicated to providing all necessary services and infrastructure to guarantee a safe and comfortable journey for the pilgrims. Sood concluded by emphasising that all departments must work in close coordination and remain fully prepared to ensure a peaceful and well-organised Kanwar Yatra.
