Chandigarh Police has refused permission for Arijit Singh’s concert scheduled for November 4. The denial stems from inadequate parking arrangements at the concert venue, the Exhibition Ground in Sector 34.
Chandigarh Police cited the concert organizers’ lack of planning, highlighting their failure to provide parking plans for the expected turnout of over 5,000 cars. This decision comes even as more than 7,000 tickets have already been sold, ranging from `1,800 for students to premium packages priced at Rs 2 lakh, which include a six-chair seating arrangement near the stage and complimentary wine and liquor.
Police officials pointed out that the organizers had secured the venue without securing adequate parking space. The organizers had proposed a shuttle service but were requested to submit a proposal to Chandigarh Police. Authorities suggested postponing the concert to December since two grounds in Sector 34 were already occupied due to the Dubai Carnival and another exhibition, limiting parking space. It would be impossible to accommodate 5,000 cars without sufficient parking, potentially causing traffic congestion in the city.
Sources revealed that the organizers were also advised to change the venue to Sector 25, but they declined the suggestion. Vijay from Tarish Entertainment Private Limited, the concert’s organizer, assured that they had already identified nearby open spaces for parking and were in the process of securing additional vacant plots with permission from municipal authorities.
Vijay expressed confidence that his team would address all concerns within a few days and the concert would proceed as scheduled at the original venue. The concert had initially been planned for May 27 but was postponed due to heavy rainfall. In May, the police had registered a case of cheating against a firm at the request of the concert organizers, who had complained about fraudulent advertisements related to the event for promoting a restaurant.
