Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, reported on Thursday that more than 2.78 lakh electric vehicle have been registered in the nation so far in 2023.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Gadkari stated that Telangana and Lakshadweep’s data is not accessible on the Vahan portal while Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh’s data on EV registration is partially included due to their migration to the portal. The statistics on the portal shows that the number of electric vehicles (EVs) registered in India increased from 3,29,808 in 2021 to 10,20,679 in 2022.
In response to a different inquiry, Gadkari stated that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has planted 344.27 lakh trees as part of the Green Highways Policy between 2016-17 and 2022-23 up to February 2023. In response to a different query, he stated that NHAI plans to build wayside amenities (WSAs) along brownfield national highways and greenfield expressways every 30 to 40 kilometers. According to Gadkari, 156 WSAs have been given out so far.
