101 cases registered under Excise Act since 1 October

 Himachal Pradesh elections are around the corner hence the program of luring the voter has started at full pace. This is why the Himachal Pradesh police have registered 101 cases under the Excise Act during the first two weeks of 8 to 14 October. 

The police also seized over 2,368 litres of country liquor, 77 litres English liquor, 264 litres illicit liquor and more than 47 litres of beer across the state, the police said. In view of the forthcoming Assembly elections in the hill state, DGP Sanjay Kundu had issued instructions to superintendents of police (SPs) of all districts to launch a month-long special campaign from October 1 for detection under the Excise Act, Mining Act and the NDPS Act.

Kundu had also directed the apprehending of proclaimed offenders and the execution of non-bailable warrants.

During the campaign, 50 FIRs had been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances(NDPS) Act till Friday in which close to 15 kg charas and over 95-gram opium were seized across the state. The police also recovered more than 15 kg of poppy husk, over 283-gram heroin, and
4,000 poppy plants, the police said.

Of the 50 FIRs, 30 were registered between October 8 and 14.

The police have also registered two cases under the Mining Act. Besides, 267 challans have been imposed for illegal mining, out of which 212 challans have been compounded by the police and a fine of Rs 13,02,120 has been realized from the violators, the police said. The remaining 55 challans were sent to court. Thirty-eight vehicles involved in illegal mining were also seized. The police further said a total of 398 non-bailable warrants had been executed during the first 14 days of the campaign, which includes 49 NBWs of other states.

Twenty-one proclaimed offenders have also been apprehended by the police during this period.
