Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Pakistan, stating that its nuclear weapons are un- safe and should be brought under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The remarks came during his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir following Operation Sindoor, India’s largest- ever anti-terror operation. Interacting with troops in Srinagar, Singh said, “The whole world has seen how irresponsibly Pakistan has given nuclear threats to India several times.

Today, from the land of Srinagar, I want to raise this question before the whole world: are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation?” Calling for international intervention, he added, “I believe that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be taken under the supervision of the IAEA.”

The Defence Minister’s comments came days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India would no longer tolerate “nuclear blackmail” and would respond firmly to cross-border terrorism.

Highlighting the scale of India’s military response, Singh described Operation Sindoor as the most decisive action against terrorism in India’s history. “They attacked India’s forehead in Pahalgam, we have inflicted wounds on their chest,” he declared, referencing the recent terror strike that killed several Indian soldiers. He also emphasized that India’s policy on terrorism, as articulated by PM Modi, has undergone a fundamental shift. “Any terrorist attack on Indian soil will now be considered an act of war,” Singh asserted.

Lambasting Pakistan for continuing to provide shelter to terrorist organizations, Singh said, “The only way to cure Pakistan’s wounds is to stop giving shelter to anti-India and terrorist organisations. If terrorism continues, the price Pakistan will pay will keep increasing.
