Reflecting on the serene experience, he told reporters that the boat he rode in was named Peace of Heaven. “The peace I experience when I come to Dal Lake takes me back to my school days,” Goyal shared. He added, “I haven't forgotten my childhood memories. God has given a heaven to the country.”

Locals Praised for Standing Against Terrorism

Tourism in Kashmir had slowed down after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 23, where 26 people were killed. However, Goyal praised the people of Kashmir for their role in Operation Sindoor, saying, “We are indebted to the people of Kashmir for the way they supported Operation Sindoor and stood firm against terrorism.”

He expressed hope that terrorism would be rooted out just like Naxalism, stating, “Like we have decided to end Naxalism by 2026, I am confident that together we will eradicate terrorism from its roots.”

Amarnath Yatra Brings Economic Hope

Goyal believes the Amarnath Yatra will help revive tourism and support the local economy. He explained, “Now, the Amarnath Yatra has also started, and tourists have also come to Gulmarg.” He also pointed out the rising trend of homestays and said, “Today, homestay will start in thousands of houses, their income will increase, and Kashmir’s economy will also grow.”

Government to Address Local Issues

While in Srinagar, Goyal met with multiple delegations and assured them of government support. “Today, I met many delegations,” he said. Goyal stressed that both the state and central governments were working together to strengthen trade and industry. He added, “The Modi government brought a ₹28,000 crore scheme earlier, and we’ll continue to support local development.”

Support for Handicrafts and GST Cut

Goyal discussed reducing GST on handicrafts to help boost the local industry. “We have discussed with you people about handicrafts here,” he said. He asked for a proposal and promised, “I will try to reduce the GST to 5 percent so that the production of handicrafts here can increase.”

He also confirmed plans for a new facility, saying, “There has been a discussion about opening an assembly centre. We will open that too.”

The government slashes toll rates by up to 50% on highways with large structures, making road travel cheaper and smarter.

The Indian government has decided to reduce toll charges significantly on national highways that include large structures. This change aims to ease travel costs for commuters and promote more highway use.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) officially notified the new rule on July 2, 2025. It has updated the National Highways Fee Rules (2008) to introduce a better method for calculating tolls.

What Has Changed?

Earlier, motorists had to pay 10 times the regular rate for each kilometre that included tunnels, bridges, flyovers, or elevated corridors. This made travel expensive, especially on stretches full of such structures.

Now, under the revised rule, the toll will be based on the lower of two values:

Ten times the length of the structure(s) plus the remaining stretch of the highway (excluding those structures),
OR

Five times the total length of the full highway section, including the structures.

As the notification clearly states, “Structure” means an independent bridge, tunnel, flyover or elevated highway.”

How Does It Benefit Drivers?

To show the difference, the ministry gave an example. Suppose a 40-kilometre stretch consists entirely of elevated or structured sections. Under the old rule, toll would be charged for 400 kilometres (10 × 40 km). But now, under the new rule, it will be charged for 200 kilometres (5 × 40 km). As a result, drivers will pay half the toll.

Why the Government Took This Step

The government recognized that current toll rates on structured roads were too high. Elevated roads, tunnels, and bridges require more money to build and maintain. Therefore, the tolls were higher.

However, the burden on road users also increased.

To fix this, the ministry revised the fee formula. A senior official from NHAI explained, “This move is designed to rationalize toll collection and provide relief to road users while maintaining a balance between infrastructure cost recovery and affordability.”

What This Means for Travelers

This new rule is expected to bring big savings for commuters. It will also encourage people to use national highways more often.

Moreover, people driving through areas with long bridges, flyovers, or tunnels will see lower toll bills. The reform is part of the government's broader plan to make travel more affordable, while still recovering costs of large infrastructure.

In short, the government wants to support both road users and infrastructure development — and this new toll formula is a step in that direction.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed colour-coded number plates for hydrogen-powered vehicles to promote sustainable mobility and aid quick identification.

In a significant move towards encouraging green mobility, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has unveiled a new color-coded registration number plate system for hydrogen-fueled vehicles. The initiative is intended to assist not only the authorities but also the general public in easily recognizing such vehicles as well as promoting the use of green transport technologies.

As per a draft notification released on Friday, hydrogen-fuel-based vehicles will soon feature dual-coloured number plates, with green and blue backgrounds merged, and figure colour changing depending on the type and intended use of the vehicle.

Different Colours Depending on the Type of Vehicle

According to the proposal:

Hydrogen commercial vehicles will have number plates with green tops and blue bottoms, and yellow figures.

Private hydrogen cars will have the same green-blue background but with white numbers.

The cars will be utilized as rental taxis and will have plates with a black top section and blue lower section, along with yellow numbers.

This visual distinction is aimed at enhancing visibility and helping quickly identify hydrogen-fuelled cars, as is the case with current green number plates for electric cars (EVs).

Push for Hydrogen Mobility

A ministry senior official explained the program fits into India's overall shift towards clean energy and minimizing dependence on fossil fuels. Hydrogen is viewed by the government as a central part of its green mobility strategy, particularly for the commercial and heavy transport segments.

By rationalizing identification by sight, the ministry aims to create enhanced compliance, enforcement, and public awareness for zero-emission vehicles.

The draft is now open to public comments and inputs from stakeholders. Finalised, the regulation will be introduced across the country by amending the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.

Toyota’s sixth-generation 2026 RAV4 brings electrified powertrains, three unique styles, and cutting-edge technology, promising versatility and performance for every driver.

Toyota Motor North America has officially confirmed the arrival of the sixth-generation 2026 RAV4, America's top-selling compact SUV. With a big leap ahead, the new RAV4 will be offered only with electrified powertrains—either Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) or Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)—as a testament to Toyota's vision for eco-friendly driving.

The SUV is available in three different styles, Core, Rugged, and Sport, featuring the new Woodland grade look and the US market's first-ever RAV4 GR SPORT model. The new lineup offers versatility, more powerful performance, and innovative technology for drivers eager to take on any adventure.

Toyota RAY4: New Era of Electrification & Design

Electrification is at the forefront of the 2026 RAV4's redesign as it reflects Toyota's commitment to a more environmentally friendly future. The PHEV trims feature an all-new Plug-in Hybrid System with 320 net horsepower, an 18-horsepower boost in a more efficient package. Additionally, the electric-only driving range now reaches as long as 50 miles, a 20% gain. All PHEV models will include standard all-wheel drive (AWD) for expanding sales appeal to customers who need both power and efficiency.

The HEV models also see major improvements, with the system output rising to 236 combined system net horsepower in AWD models and adding front-wheel drive (FWD) options to the RAV4 Hybrid for the first time. This new FWD availability, coupled with a 23-horsepower boost over the previous generation's gas FWD model, provides consumers with more options for performance suited to their driving needs.

Different Styles for Every Driver in New Toyota

Toyota has three primary design themes for the 2026 RAV4: Core, Rugged, and Sport. Core design combines a fresh, clean appearance with Toyota's traditional hammerhead front treatment, accented with spacious overfenders and angular body panels. Core grades feature the-equipped LE, XLE, and Limited trims, with wheel sizes ranging from 17 to 20 inches.

The Rugged aesthetic is built around the new Woodland grade, a standalone model designed specifically for outdoor use. It features a higher ride height, all-terrain tires, a split black grille with combined Rigid Industries LED lighting, and a 1¼-inch rear activity mount, reflecting its travel-capable versatility. Standard AWD and availability with both HEV and PHEV powertrains make the Woodland perfect for those who love adventure.

At the most sporty end of the range is the very first RAV4 GR SPORT, created in partnership with Toyota GAZOO Racing. It focuses on driving fun with a GR-tuned suspension, increased body rigidity, summer tires, and special 20-inch wheels. The GR SPORT comes exclusively with the PHEV system with AWD and aggressive styling, which comprises a GR Functional MATRIX grille and wing-type spoilers, attracting drivers who love performance and design.

Advanced Technology and Comfort

The 2026 RAV4 debuts Toyota's new AREN software development platform, a platform that provides a basis for a new generation of Toyota Audio Multimedia systems and an enhanced Toyota Safety Sense active safety suite. The platform facilitates intuitive touchscreen interfaces, more advanced voice commands, and seamless smartphone integration, enhancing driver engagement with technology.

Within, the SUV reconciles usability with comfort. The center stack puts controls like the touchscreen and drive mode selector in convenient reach, while the center console houses a shift-by-wire setup on certain trims. This streamlined toggle switch eliminates conventional shifters, making the cockpit look high-tech. The interior design is intended to make room for daily life without sacrificing a premium driving experience.

Looking Ahead

Toyota will roll out the 2026 RAV4 to dealership floors across the United States later this year, with pricing to follow closer to the launch. Since its introduction in 1996, the RAV4 has set the standard for compact SUVs through a harmonious balance of utility, efficiency, and style. The sixth-generation model carries the torch even further, breaking new ground with electrified powertrains, varied design choices, and cutting-edge technology.

Toyota's dedication to innovation provides the RAV4 with the preparedness to cope with the needs of contemporary drivers and the changing face of the auto industry.

Mercedes-Benz India has achieved a historic milestone by rolling out 2 lakh units from its Chakan plant, underscoring the brand’s commitment to India. The milestone was marked by the production of an all-electric EQS SUV.

Mercedes-Benz India has announced with pride a milestone in history, producing 2 lakh units of domestically manufactured cars at its Chakan factory in Pune. This milestone was celebrated with the introduction of an all-electric EQS SUV, the 200,000th vehicle to be manufactured at the plant.

Mercedes-Benz Group AG's Member of the Board of Management, Dr. Jorg Burzer, officially revealed the milestone car personally, in the presence of MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, Santosh Iyer, and Executive Director & Head of Operations, Vyankatesh Kulkarni.

This milestone achievement reflects Mercedes-Benz's dedication to the Indian market, having started its journey there in 1995. The Chakan plant has been instrumental in the success of the automaker in India. It was the first production facility outside Germany to produce the Mercedes-Maybach S500 in 2015. Ever since, the plant has added a range of other models to its production lines.

Growth and Demand Surge in Indian Market of Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz India has witnessed the growth in its business in recent years at a very fast rate. It took 19 years to produce the first 50,000 units, but the next 100,000 units were made in 9 years. Surprisingly, the final 50,000 cars were produced within more than two years, demonstrating the increasing demand for luxury cars in India and the increased efficiency of the production process of the company.

In 2022, Mercedes-Benz India launched local production of the EQS 580 Sedan, and in 2024 brought in the EQS SUV, thus becoming the first Indian luxury carmaker to locally produce two electric vehicles. Today, the brand locally manufactures 11 luxury models, providing the widest lineup of locally produced luxury cars in India. Some of the models include the C-Class, E-Class LWB, GLA, GLC, GLE, GLS, EQS, and more.

This remarkable achievement not only confirms Mercedes-Benz India's leadership position in the Indian luxury car market but also demonstrates the growing and increasing demand for quality, locally manufactured cars in India.

Rolls-Royce doesn’t just sell cars — it sells prestige. Find out how the iconic brand uses psychology, not just design, to position itself above all competition.

Founded in 1906, Rolls-Royce has long stood as a symbol of ultimate luxury, elegance, and engineering perfection. Known for crafting some of the world’s most iconic and expensive cars, the brand doesn't just sell automobiles — it offers an experience reserved for the elite. Each Rolls-Royce is custom-built, handcrafted, and treated as a piece of art on wheels.

But beyond its impeccable craftsmanship and legacy, Rolls-Royce follows a unique marketing philosophy that sets it apart from every other luxury carmaker. One of its most fascinating strategies? It never parks its cars next to other cars at exhibitions.

Why? Because Rolls-Royce doesn’t compete — it dominates. And the reason behind this unusual choice lies deep in human psychology.

When it comes to iconic car brands, each name evokes a particular image:

Ferrari – Speed

BMW – Driving Experience

Mercedes-Benz – Luxury

Volvo – Safety

And then there’s Rolls-Royce — a brand that transcends the idea of just a car. It’s not just a vehicle; it’s a statement of legacy, prestige, and unmatched craftsmanship.

But did you know that Rolls-Royce rarely, if ever, displays its cars alongside other automobiles at exhibitions?

Instead, Rolls-Royce prefers to showcase its vehicles next to private jets or luxury yachts. This isn’t just about aesthetics — it's a powerful marketing strategy rooted in psychological science.

Let’s explore the logic behind this — and how something called the Anchoring Effect plays a role.

Why Rolls-Royce Avoids Being Seen Next to Other Cars

Unlike most automobile brands that compete for attention in car expos, Rolls-Royce takes a very different approach. It chooses to display its vehicles in spaces where ultra-high-net-worth individuals make purchases — like private jet lounges, yacht expos, or luxury lifestyle exhibitions.

The idea is simple but genius:

“We don’t want to be compared with other cars. We want to be seen as part of a different universe altogether.”

This reinforces the brand’s positioning beyond automotive — associating Rolls-Royce with the luxury lifestyle itself rather than with the car industry alone.

Rolls-Royce sold over 6,000 cars in 2023 — its highest ever — despite being one of the most expensive brands in the world.

Enter the Anchoring Effect: The Power of Perception

This strategy ties directly into a psychological concept known as the Anchoring Effect.

The Anchoring Effect refers to the tendency of people to rely heavily on the first piece of information (the “anchor”) they see when making decisions. Once an anchor is set, it influences how we perceive everything that follows.

Example:

If you see a luxury jet priced at $30 million and right next to it is a Rolls-Royce priced at $500,000 — your brain goes,
“Compared to the jet, this car seems almost affordable.”

That’s the anchoring effect in action. It changes your frame of reference, making a half-a-million-dollar car feel like a reasonable add-on — especially when you're already in the mindset of high-end spending.

Where Else Do We See the Anchoring Effect?

The anchoring effect isn’t limited to Rolls-Royce. It’s everywhere around us — especially in marketing and pricing strategies. Here are a few common examples:

Retail Discounts: “Was ₹10,000, now only ₹6,999” — the original price becomes the anchor.

Real Estate: The first quoted price sets expectations for negotiations.

E-commerce: “Compare with ₹1,999” tags on sale items.

Salary Negotiations: The first offer made often anchors the conversation.

Luxury Branding: Associating products with a more expensive lifestyle item (like a yacht or private jet).

Rolls-Royce: A Case Study in Premium Perception

By showcasing its cars next to private jets, Rolls-Royce sends a subtle but powerful message:

More than a century after it was founded, Rolls-Royce continues to prove that luxury isn't just built — it's brilliantly positioned.

It’s not just clever — it’s psychologically strategic. When a brand anchors itself to ultra-luxury, it reframes the customer’s perception entirely.

Final Thoughts

Rolls-Royce’s marketing isn’t about flashy ads or aggressive sales tactics. It’s about creating a mindset, an environment where spending on luxury feels not only justified but expected.

And that’s what makes it more than just a car — it becomes a symbol of status, power, and timeless elegance.

Ford Motor Company is now offering its exclusive employee pricing to all U.S. customers through June 2, amid growing tariff tensions.

In a move of defiance against recent tariff increases by former President Donald Trump, Ford Motor Company has rolled out its exclusive employee pricing—historically reserved for employees and their families—to all American customers. The action is intended to deliver value instead of increasing prices, distinguishing the automaker from some of its peers.

As reported by The Detroit Free Press and Reuters, the promotion is part of Ford's new campaign, From America, For America, which highlights the domestic heritage of the company. Ford, which "employs more hourly workers and assembles more vehicles in America than any other automaker," will be offering the promotion through June 2.

Under this campaign, the majority of 2024 and 2025 Ford and Lincoln models will be eligible for A-Plan pricing—a rate usually below the dealer invoice- with tremendous savings.

Exclusions and Price Adjustments by Ford

Though the offer is extensive, a few highly sought-after models continue to be excluded from employee pricing:

2025 Ford Expedition

2025 Lincoln Navigator

F-Series Super Duty Trucks

Raptor Models (Bronco Raptor, Ranger Raptor, F-150 Raptor)

Special Edition Mustangs (Dark Horse, Mach 1, GTD, Shelby)

Bronco Stroppe Edition

Some of these models have just experienced price increases, with the 2025 Expedition increasing from $55,630 to close to $62,000. Models produced in Mexico or China, such as the Bronco Sport, Maverick, and Lincoln Nautilus, could get hit with extra pricing pressure from the new tariffs.

EV Discounts and Inventory Advantage

Ford is also pushing into the electric vehicle space. Through June 30, customers purchasing all-electric Ford vehicles will get a free home charger and free installation, adding more value in the EV segment.

Levels of inventory also have a lot to do with the timing of the promotion. Based on Cox Automotive, Ford had 126 days of inventory of cars on dealer lots as of February's end, with Lincoln having more than two times the industry average. A lot of it is already in the U.S., which protects it from new tariff effects.

By doing this, Ford is counting on price-sensitive American buyers opting for value—and loyalty—over higher sticker prices.

The Aurus Senat, first unveiled in 2018, serves as the brand’s flagship sedan and has gained notoriety for its robust performance and security features. It is available in three variants: the standard Senat, the Senat Long, and the Senat Limousine, which serves as Putin's official state car and now, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s vehicle of choice.

Aurus Senat: A Blend of Luxury and Power

The Senat's imposing design has earned it the moniker “Russian Rolls-Royce,” owing to its bold chrome grille and tiered LED headlights. The vehicle’s side profile exudes authority with its bulletproof tinted windows, chrome accents, and sturdy alloy wheels. The rear maintains a streamlined look, resembling high-end European sedans such as Bentley.

Inside the Aurus Senat: Where Luxury Meets Security

The Senat’s cabin boasts a luxurious interior with premium leather upholstery, wood inlays, and a seamless digital display integrating both the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The rear seats offer a lounge-like experience, equipped with power-adjustability, entertainment screens, climate controls, and fold-out tables.

In the armored limousine variant, additional rearward-facing seats accommodate security personnel, while a privacy screen isolates rear passengers from the driver. Advanced ambient lighting enhances the cabin’s opulence.

Performance and Protection: A Car Fit for Leaders

The Aurus Senat is not just about luxury; it is built to perform. Powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol-hybrid engine producing 598 PS and 880 Nm torque, it delivers swift acceleration despite its reinforced structure. The nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system enable a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 6 seconds.

Security is paramount in the Senat’s design. The limousine version features reinforced armor plating, bulletproof glass, and an advanced air filtration system designed to protect occupants from chemical or biological attacks. Fire suppression mechanisms and run-flat tires further enhance its defensive capabilities.

Why Did Putin's Aurus Senat Catch Fire?

Reports of Putin’s Aurus Senat catching fire have raised questions about its safety. While the cause remains unclear, speculation points to mechanical failure or overheating due to its high-performance engine and advanced security systems. The incident underscores the challenges of designing a vehicle that balances power, security, and luxury.

As the Aurus Senat gains global attention, its combination of Russian engineering, luxury, and top-tier security makes it a formidable rival to Western state vehicles. Whether for diplomacy or defense, this car remains a symbol of Russian innovation and authority.

Elon Musk’s return to Tesla led to a 12% stock surge, reassuring investors. However, Tesla faces competition from BYD and ongoing protests. The FBI is investigating vandalism at Tesla showrooms amid growing tensions.

Elon Musk is coming back to Tesla as the electric car giant sees a steep stock drop of more than 30%.

His return to the company has calmed investors, causing a big market bounce. Tesla shares jumped 12% on Monday to $278.39, their highest performance since the presidential election in November. The rally carried over to Tuesday with the stock gaining another 2.8% to $286.

Wedbush analyst and Tesla stalwart Dan Ives had this to say about the stock action, "The stock was way oversold and is bouncing as Musk is back in charge and trying to balance DOGE and Tesla."

Musk Addresses the Employees

Musk addressed Tesla employees last week in response to market concerns. "What I'm here to tell you is that the future is incredibly bright and exciting," he said. "And we're going to do things that no one I think has even dreamed of."

Ives noted the effect of Musk's intervention, adding, "Musk picked up last week with the all-hands meeting, and that gave a much-needed positive message to employees and investors."

In spite of the stock bounce, Tesla is still facing strong competition. Byd, a Chinese automaker, recently surpassed Tesla in yearly sales, showing $107 billion in revenue versus Tesla's $97.7 billion.

At the same time, Musk's position in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a cost-cutting program aimed at Trump administration spending, has been controversial. His actions have provoked mass protests, leading to vandalism of Tesla showrooms and damage to company cars.

The backlash has not escaped political notice, with previous President Donald Trump denouncing the vandals as 'terrorists'. To respond, the FBI declared Monday that it was creating a task force to analyze the events.

Ives recognized the persistence of issues, saying, "There is still a brand crisis tornado in the works, but we are viewing numerous flood Tesla dealerships rally behind Musk using these protests piling up."

He highlighted that several other companies are also expanding their operations within the country, boosting investments and strengthening the economy.

Record-Breaking Economic Growth

.@POTUS: "Hyundai is a great company...
Trump stated that the US economy has now crossed the $3-$4 trillion mark, a milestone that he claimed has never been achieved before. He emphasized that this growth is a result of increasing confidence from international corporations like Hyundai and others who are choosing to invest and expand in the US.

More Companies Investing in America

According to Trump, several companies are not only staying in the US but are also significantly expanding their operations. This trend of retaining and expanding businesses is contributing to a stronger and more resilient American economy.

Impact on US Economic Policies

Trump’s remarks reflect his administration's focus on encouraging foreign investments and fostering a business-friendly environment. He stressed that these ongoing investments will continue to drive growth and create new opportunities for American workers.

Tesla's Europe sales plunge 45% as Musk's political stance sparks backlash, while rivals like VW and BYD surge ahead in the EV market.

Tesla's European sales suffered a dramatic blow last month, dropping 44% in 25 markets in the EU, UK, Norway, and Switzerland. The electric car behemoth sold less than 16,000 vehicles in February, its lowest regional market share in five years. The fall follows the same pattern in January when sales fell 45%, from 18,161 in 2024 to only 9,945 units.

Political Affiliations and Consumer Backlash

Elon Musk's increasing politicization, such as his status as a prominent member of Donald Trump's cabinet, has made investors and analysts nervous. His recent support for Germany's far-right AfD party, provocative public comments, and attendance at conservative gatherings have drawn ire. Even some Tesla dealerships have been the subject of protests, indicating that his political affiliation might be affecting consumer attitudes.

Tesla's Model Y Overhaul Also Impacts Sales

In addition to Musk's political ties, analysts believe that Tesla's shift to a new model of its top-selling Model Y has also been an impact factor. Felipe Muñoz, a Jato Dynamics global analyst, commented, "Tesla is going through a time of vast transformation. Alongside Elon Musk's more prominent involvement in politics and the additional competition it is coming up against in the EV market, the company is bringing in the current model of the Model Y – its top-selling car – before introducing the new update."

Competitor EV Manufacturers Lead the Pack

As Tesla falters, its rivals are gaining ground. Volkswagen's battery electric vehicle sales jumped by 180% last February, with almost 20,000 units sold. BMW and Mini registered a combined 19,000 EV sales, while China's BYD registered a 94% jump, with sales totaling more than 4,000 cars in Europe.

BYD has become Tesla's largest international rival, beating the US automaker in revenue for the first time since 2018. The Chinese business posted a 29% year-over-year revenue gain to $100 billion, while Tesla had revenue of $97.7 billion.

Tesla's Market Position Under Pressure

Even with the sudden dip in sales and share prices falling by over a third during 2025, Tesla continues to be the EV leader with a market valuation of $780 billion. Nonetheless, increased competition from established players and surging Chinese players can potentially dethrone it over the next few years.

In the meantime, total car sales in the 25 European markets declined by 3% in February, although battery electric vehicle registrations rose by 25%, marking strong consumer demand for EVs—just not perhaps so much for Tesla's vehicles.

Several Tata Group companies have quietly become key suppliers for Tesla, which dominates nearly half of the global electric vehicle market. Tata AutoComp, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Technologies, and Tata Electronics are already supplying crucial components to Tesla. If Tesla establishes a manufacturing facility in India, these companies will likely see even greater business opportunities.

Moreover, reports confirm that these Tata firms have secured global contracts with Tesla, contributing significantly to India’s $2 billion worth of supplies to the automaker in FY24. To enhance its supply ecosystem, Tesla has also encouraged its existing suppliers to explore setting up manufacturing units near its production centers.

Tesla Prepares Indian Suppliers for Future Expansion

Tesla is taking proactive steps to develop a strong supplier base in India. A top industry source told ET, "Tesla is, in a way, readying the supplier base in India. We are very sure that once Tesla starts manufacturing here, Indian suppliers will benefit from sourcing opportunities."

As part of this effort, Tesla’s senior procurement executives have met with multiple suppliers to discuss the production of various components, including:

Castings and forgings

Electronics and fabrication materials

Wiring harnesses

Ball and ceramic bearings

These discussions indicate that Tesla is actively planning to expand its sourcing beyond China and Taiwan.

Tata Group’s Growing Role in Tesla’s Supply Chain

Each Tata company plays a distinct role in Tesla’s supply network:

Tata AutoComp supplies advanced EV components.

Tata Technologies provides end-to-end product lifecycle management services.

TCS delivers circuit-board technologies.

Tata Electronics will manufacture semiconductor chips once its production facility becomes operational.

Given these existing contributions, these Tata companies stand to benefit significantly if Tesla moves forward with manufacturing operations in India.

Tesla Evaluates Tax Benefits Before Entering India

In addition to strengthening its supply chain, Tesla is carefully analyzing India’s tax incentives and duty exemptions before making a final decision on local production. Since Tesla enforces strict confidentiality agreements with suppliers, the specifics of component sourcing remain undisclosed.

Nevertheless, reports suggest that Tata Electronics will supply critical vehicle control systems, including printed circuit board assemblies for Tesla’s battery management systems, motor controllers, and door control mechanisms.

Meanwhile, Tesla has expanded its partnerships with several other Indian suppliers, including Samvardhana Motherson, Suprajit Engineering, Sona BLW Precision Forgings, Varroc Engineering, Bharat Forge, and Sandhar Technologies.

Notably, Tesla’s procurement from Indian suppliers reached $1.7-1.9 billion in FY24, and experts predict this figure will continue to rise in FY25.

Tesla Shifts Focus Away from China

Following the supply chain disruptions during the COVID-19 crisis, Tesla has implemented a strategy to reduce its reliance on China. Consequently, the company has instructed suppliers catering to markets outside China to establish production units in other regions, with implementation expected to begin next year.

Although Tesla produces certain key components in-house—such as electric motors, battery packs, and chargers—it continues to rely on international suppliers for subassemblies and specialized components. Moreover, Tesla maintains strict secrecy regarding its supplier relationships.

Tesla in Talks with Multiple Indian States for Manufacturing Facility

In a significant move, Tesla has begun discussions with Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Telangana to explore potential sites for a manufacturing plant. If Tesla sets up a factory in India, it will not only expand its market presence but also create more business opportunities for Indian suppliers.

As Tesla continues to strengthen its supplier base in India, industry analysts believe that Indian firms will play an increasingly important role in Tesla’s global production strategy.

Maruti Suzuki India will increase the prices of its vehicles from April 2025, attributing it to higher input costs and operational costs. The company said the price increase would be up to 4% based on the model. This is after it had already increased prices in December 2024 by 4%, which was effected in January 2025.

In February, some models experienced price hikes between Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 32,500. The increasing global commodity prices, high import duties on raw materials, and supply chain disruptions are all the reasons behind these hikes. Maruti Suzuki admitted in its filing that although cost optimization efforts are ongoing, some of the added costs will be transferred to the customers.

Maruti Suzuki currently has a variety of models, ranging from the base Alto K10 to the luxury Invicto. On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Maruti Suzuki shares were at Rs. 11,549.55 as of 10:45 am IST, showing a 0.36% rise of Rs. 40.90.

"Even though the Company is constantly working to bring down costs and reduce the burden on its customers, some amount of the increased cost would have to be passed on to the market," Maruti Suzuki said in its exchange filing.

He attributed the decision to "the great policies of President Trump and his administration," stressing the firm's resolve to expanding manufacturing capabilities even after the recent challenges such as fluctuation in stock price and across-country protests against Tesla.

According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, the new tariff applies to imports of vehicles with engines larger than 2.5 liters, raising the total duty to 25%.

China's additional 10% tariff on U.S. vehicles with larger engines came into effect on Monday, following the two nations' failure to reach an agreement on the Trump administration's broad tariffs on Chinese goods.

According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, the new tariff applies to imports of vehicles with engines larger than 2.5 liters, raising the total duty to 25%.

While exports of such vehicles are relatively small compared to the number of cars that companies like General Motors Co. produce domestically with joint venture partners, U.S. manufacturers still shipped approximately $3.1 billion worth of larger-engine vehicles to China last year, based on customs data.

The increased tariff impacts automakers such as GM and Ford Motor Co., both of which are already facing challenges in China as consumers shift to electric vehicles produced by domestic brands, particularly BYD Co. GM previously reported over $5 billion in charges and writedowns linked to its struggling China operations.

Bloomberg Intelligence on tariff war

Mercedes—and to a lesser extent, BMW—face moderate exposure to China’s additional 10% tariff on U.S.-imported SUVs and pickups. Both German automakers use the U.S. as a global production hub for SUVs, but since 2022, BMW has been manufacturing its high-margin X5 model locally, reducing its vulnerability. For Mercedes, the tariff could lower earnings before interest and taxes (Ebit) by 1.5% in 2025, unless offset by measures like price increases—though that may prove difficult, given that SUVs in China already sell at an average 15% discount to their list price, according to BI automotive analyst Michael Dean.

To attract affluent Chinese consumers, GM introduced Durant Guild in 2022, a premium import service offering models such as the GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe, both equipped with engines of 3 liters or more.

However, the situation remains fluid, similar to when former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened tariffs on Canada and Mexico before postponing them following negotiations. Trump has stated he will soon speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping, while China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also called for dialogue and consultation to prevent an escalation into a full-blown trade war.

While bookings for both models will begin on February 14, 2025, deliveries of both models will start in mid-March with all the variants arriving by August 2025.

The company had already revealed the price range for the two cars, where the BE 6 will be between Rs. 18.9 lakh and Rs. 26.9 lakh and the XEV 9e will range from Rs. 21.9 lakh to Rs. 30.9 lakh. The BE 6 has five variants, the base variant 'Pack 1' is priced at Rs. 18.9 lakh, which is going to be the last in August 2025, and the top of the line 'Pack Three' has a 79 kWh battery and has a claimed range of 656 km.

The XEV 9e has four variants and starts at Rs. 21.9 lakh. The most expensive variant, which is available first, will be priced at Rs. 30.5 lakh and will feature a 79 kWh battery with best-in-class power of 210 kW. It will also come with L2+ ADAS with five radars and one vision camera. The 'Pack Three Select' variant will come out to the market for Rs. 27.9 lakh. The other variants to follow in July and August will be Pack Two and Pack One.

Mahindra has also elaborated on the features offered by its variants. 'Pack One Above' in BE 6, meanwhile, boasts of a fixed glass infinity roof, auto defogger, and dual zone automatic temperature control. Pack Two is accompanied by features such as adaptive cruise control and L2 ADAS with one radar.

Recently, Mahindra opened its latest flagship EV Manufacturing & Battery Assembly Facility in Chakan, Pune. The new plant will be assembling electric SUVs. Mahindra has kept aside Rs. 4,500 crore for developing powertrain development, new models, and manufacturing capacity building in its overall investment cycle of Rs. 16,000 crore allocated for FY22–FY27.

Brokerage firm Nuvama said the company can build 90,000 EVs. Sales, which will contribute 8 per cent of total volumes, would reach 48,000 units in FY26. Sales, according to him, would shoot up to 96,000 units by FY27 and this will contribute to 15 percent of the overall volumes.

UBS estimates the market size of BE 6 at around 44,000 vehicles per month with nearly half priced at Rs. 22 lakh, giving it a competitive edge. On the other hand, the market size of XEV 9e is approximately 42,000 vehicles per month, with 45% of sales exceeding Rs. 30 lakh.

According to media reports, the much-awaited merger talks between Japanese automakers Nissan and Honda seem to be off the table.

Nissan Chief Executive Makoto Uchida met with Honda Chief Executive Toshihiro Mibe on Thursday, 6 February as confirmed by the source, in which he reported that the company is walking away from talks. According to him, Uchida agreed to walk away after Honda demanded the company make him a subsidiary-which Nissan refused to abide, the source reported.

The merged firm would have emerged as the third-largest automobile company in the world, measured by vehicle sales. In the line of Japanese auto manufacturers, Honda is the country's second automobile producer, ranked after Toyota as the largest while Nissan is behind Honda.

Two auto firms had in December 2024 signed a Memorandum of Understanding to study the possibility of integration under a holding company. The talks were geared towards the consolidation of their competitive advantage on the team with an industry experiencing drastic changes but, early differences on the model existed between the two parties with Honda wanting Nissan as a subsidiary.

"A consensus was reached on Nissan's part that the negotiations cannot continue on that proposal," Reuters quoted one source as saying.

Nissan Set to Firmify Exit from Talks

As cited by the same source, Nissan will probably confirm its exit at a board meeting.Although neither Nissan nor Honda said that in the media, both have stated that by mid-February, it will decide on a course of action.

here's what's next for Nissan?

Such talks' breakdown would question Nissan's ability to successfully drive its continuing process of restructuring alone. Nissan is going through a turnaround plan that will be achieved by eradicating 9,000 jobs and slashing its global capacity by 20%.

Shares of Nissan jumped 7.6% on Thursday afternoon following the report, but Honda shares plunged 3.5%, contrary to the movement on Wednesday.

The Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) has now been extended to seven more airports. On January 16, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the service at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Cochin airports. This launch took place from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Convenient Immigration Process for Registered Travelers

Following the launch, Shah shared on X that the programme would allow registered citizens and OCI cardholders to bypass airport queues. Instead, they can quickly clear immigration by scanning their passports and boarding passes at e-gates. This makes the process far more convenient and efficient for travelers.

https://twitter.com/AmitShah/status/1879932603324829936

Previous Launch and Future Plans

Previously, the initiative was introduced at Terminal 3 of New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport in June 2024. Looking ahead, the government plans to expand FTI-TTP to 13 additional major airports across the country.

What is FTI-TTP?

FTI-TTP aims to streamline the immigration process for international travelers. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the programme is designed to provide “world-class immigration facilities,” ensuring that international travel becomes both smoother and more secure.

Free Service for Indian Citizens and OCI Cardholders

Importantly, the service is currently free for Indian citizens and OCI passengers arriving from abroad. This initiative removes any financial barrier for eligible travelers, further promoting ease of travel.

A Step Towards ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’ Vision

Moreover, the Ministry of Home Affairs highlights that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the programme is a significant step towards realizing the ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’ vision.

Seamless Travel Experience for Passengers

In addition, a senior official from the Ministry of Home Affairs previously stated, “India is becoming an international hub. This programme ensures a smooth and effortless travel experience. Eligible passengers can now bypass regular immigration queues and use automated e-gates instead.” This reinforces the programme’s goal of making international travel more efficient.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, headquartered in Goodwood, South coast of England, reported a 5% drop in sales for 2024. The deliveries fell to 5,712 vehicles from the record 6,032 sold in 2023. The luxury automaker owned by BMW. They attributed the decline to transitions involving updated models and the simultaneous launch of its first electric vehicle, the £330,000 Spectre.

The luxury motorcar maker delivered 5,712 vehicles in 2024 which is the third highest in history. They gave 6,032 deliveries in 2023 as compared to 2022 when they sold 6,021 models. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars hasn’t any link with the FTSE 100 aero engine company and they allow BMW to use its marque which is based in Goodwood, Sussex and facilities employ 2,500 people.

The automotive industry faced challenges in 2024 with delayed purchases and EV transitions. Rolls-Royce attributed its sales dip to model updates and the simultaneous launch of its first EV, Spectre.

Despite the decrease, 2024 marked the third-highest sales year in Rolls-Royce’s history. The brand continues to remain a leader in luxury automotive excellence.

Spectre Dominates UK and European Markets

The Spectre EV emerged as the company’s second-most "requested model" after the Cullinan 4x4 and became its single bestseller in the UK and Europe. Rolls-Royce refrained from disclosing exact sales figures for the Spectre but highlighted its significance in the evolving EV market.

The year also saw updates to the £300,000 Cullinan and £270,000 Ghost models, further diversifying the brand’s portfolio.

BMW Commits £300 Million to Goodwood Facilities

To support its future growth, BMW has committed £300 million to Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood operations, marking the most significant financial investment since the site’s opening in 2003. The facility, employing 2,500 people, plays a crucial role in the production and innovation of Rolls-Royce vehicles.

“This substantial investment demonstrates our confidence in the Rolls-Royce marque and ensures our future here in the UK,” said Chris Brownridge, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars’ new CEO.

Many visitors choose to explore these picturesque sceneries using their personal vehicles. However, driving on surfaces covered with black ice is a challenging task, as demonstrated in a viral video on social media where 'Lord Alto' won the match.

The Instagram video begins with a black Mahindra Thar attempting to go uphill on a route with water flowing down. The SUV struggles to gain traction, followed by a Maruti Suzuki Jimny facing similar difficulties. Shortly after, a Suzuki Gypsy takes the same path, also experiencing minimal traction.

Unexpected Success of Maruti Suzuki Alto

Surprisingly, a Maruti Suzuki Alto, equipped with a front-wheel-drive system, effortlessly climbs the hill. Despite being an underdog compared to specialized off-road vehicles, the Alto's success can be attributed to its lightweight and the driver's skill in avoiding slippery surfaces. Additionally, chains on its front tires enhance traction, a common technique for driving on snow-covered surfaces.

Viral Video Gains Popularity

The video has garnered over 238,000 likes on social media, likely due to the Alto's improbable triumph over renowned off-road vehicles like the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. The clip's popularity has earned the hatchback the title "Lord Alto" among enthusiasts.

The most spectacular car launch of 2024 wasn’t the usual favorites like the Dzire, Swift, or Thar Roxx. Instead, a surprising model took the spotlight, captivating the market and leaving other launches in the dust.

The Indian car industry had a busy 2024. Several key mass-market models launched, including the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Curvv, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and more. Electric cars like the Tata Punch.ev and Mahindra BE 6 also entered the market. However, the Hyundai Creta stood out in terms of sales.

Hyundai Creta's Facelift and Success

Hyundai launched the updated Creta in January. While it was just a facelift, the changes were significant. The new look and interior upgrades helped boost its popularity. In March, the launch of the performance-focused Creta N Line further added to its success.

Impressive Sales Figures

In 2023, Hyundai sold 1,57,311 units of the Creta. By November 2024, that number had already reached 1,74,311 units. The Creta first launched in 2015. The second-generation model arrived in 2020. This year’s facelifted model is a mid-life update. The Creta N Line, based on the standard Creta, also helped drive sales. The Creta range will expand further with the Creta EV in January 2025.

Value for Money

The Creta is known for its value for money. It is competitively priced and feature-rich. The price ranges from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 20.45 lakh (ex-showroom). Hyundai will increase prices by up to Rs 25,000 starting January 1, which will likely affect the Creta.

Features and Competition

The Creta competes with models like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Kia Seltos. It comes with features such as LED headlamps, diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and a panoramic sunroof. It also offers Bose premium sound, Level 2 ADAS, and over 70 safety features, including 36 standard ones. Additionally, Bluelink connectivity is available with more than 70 functions.

Engine Options

The Creta offers three engine choices:

1.5-litre MPi petrol engine (115PS, 144Nm)

1.5-litre Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine (160PS, 253Nm)

1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine (116PS, 250Nm)

The petrol engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or IVT automatic. The diesel engine offers a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. The turbo petrol engine comes with a 7-speed DCT automatic in the standard Creta, and a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT options in the Creta N Line.
The proposed Honda-Nissan integration could strengthen credit metrics for Nissan but raises execution risks for Honda due to its stronger profile.

Nissan will benefit more than Honda from the proposed integration between the two automobile companies from a credit perspective, said Moody's Ratings on Tuesday. While Honda faces more risk due to its stronger credit profile after the business integration efforts between both the parties.

On December 23, Nissan Motor Co Ltd and Honda Motor Co Ltd inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to begin talks and considerations for a business integration between the two businesses through the creation of a joint holding business.

"The proposed Honda-Nissan business integration is overall credit positive if executed successfully. We believe that a larger scale through integration will result in stronger credit quality, particularly for Nissan, which currently has significantly weaker credit metrics than Honda," the Dean Enjo, VP-Senior Analyst, Moody's Ratings stated.

He stated that the integration would allow the automakers to share research and development (R&D) costs, which will be beneficial for the introduction of new electrified powertrain models in regions such as China.

Additionally, the integration could help mitigate the potential effects of increased tariffs on imports to the US and enhance product diversification for Nissan, given Honda's higher-margin motorcycle business, he stated.

Enjo stated that given that Honda's margins are smaller in its automobile business than in its motorbike industry, execution risk is particularly severe. As a result, it has less freedom to acquire Nissan's auto division, which is presently undergoing significant reorganisation and suffering losses.

"The JPY1.1 trillion buyback announced by Honda for its own shares is credit negative for Honda as it will erode its liquidity or credit metrics depending on the amount of cash or debt it uses to fund the buyback," he further added.

Baking its analysis, the report added that compared to Honda, Nissan would benefit more from the integration. Because of its better track record of consistent profit and cash flow, management approach, and diversification into motorcycles in addition to cars, Honda has better credit. Motorcycle margins are far greater than car margins.

Furthermore, the expansion of the motorbike industry is more exposed to rapidly expanding emerging markets like those in ASEAN and India than it is to the established car markets on which Nissan depends. Electrification also poses far less of a threat to motorcycles, the report added.

Honda and Nissan have announced plans to merge, creating the world's third-largest auto manufacturer by sales.

Japanese car manufacturers Honda and Nissan have announced intentions to combine forces, paving the way for the establishment of the globe’s third-largest auto producer by sales. This bold step, propelled by the automotive sector’s transition from fossil fuels, also brings in smaller Nissan partner Mitsubishi Motors in the early discussions.

On Monday, Honda’s president, Toshihiro Mibe, revealed that the firms had entered into a memorandum of understanding, intending to create a joint holding company by August 2026. “There are issues that require examination and conversation,” Mibe warned. “Honestly, the chance of this not being put into action is not negligible.”

The merger aims to combine resources, reduce expenses, and utilize complementary advantages. Nissan’s proficiency in battery manufacturing and hybrid powertrains, combined with Honda’s strong financial stability, presents a promising collaboration. Industry specialist Sam Fiorani remarked, “Nissan could provide truck-derived SUVs to Honda… while Honda takes advantage of Nissan’s expertise in developing hybrids and electric vehicles.”

In spite of the hope, difficulties are on the horizon. Nissan has faced financial challenges, such as a quarterly loss of ¥9.3 billion and Fitch downgrading its credit outlook. CEO Makoto Uchida has pledged changes, which involve layoffs and reorganization. “We expect that if this integration succeeds, we will provide even more value to a broader customer base,” Uchida stated.

Market responses have been favorable, with Honda's stock increasing by 3.8% and Nissan's soaring by over 20% last week. Nevertheless, Toyota continues to be unrivaled, having sold 11.5 million vehicles in 2023. Should the merger take place, the joint production of Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi would reach approximately 8 million vehicles each year.

As Japan's car manufacturers encounter increasing global rivalry, the merger highlights a wider movement towards consolidation. Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi highlighted the necessity for decisive actions to remain competitive, saying, “We anticipate measures for survival.
