Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday announced that his long-promised threat to eliminate Iran’s nuclear programme had been accomplished. His announcement came after what he termed as “perfectly coordinated” Israeli and American strikes against Iran’s most important nuclear facilities. They targeted Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—the epicenter of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capability.
PM Netanyahu hailed US President Donald Trump for authorizing the strikes and referred to the moment as “historic.” He further stated that this move could lead the way to peace in the Middle East. Trump confirmed just hours earlier that the US had joined Israel’s campaign to eradicate Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“Promise Fulfilled,” Says Netanyahu
In a social media video message, PM Netanyahu declared, “From the start of the operation, I vowed to you that Iran’s nuclear sites would be destroyed one way or another. This has been accomplished.” Netanyahu attributed credit to Trump for being boldly and decisively action-oriented.
A little while back, in seamless coordination among me and President Trump, and in seamless operational coordination between the Israeli forces and the US military, the United States struck Iran’s three nuclear sites,” he said.
Trump Praised for Bold Decision
PM Netanyahu applauded Trump for what he called a bold action. “The great decision to strike Iran’s nuclear sites with the mighty and just power of the United States will alter history,” he added.
He referred to the airstrikes as a “pivot of history” and said the demonstration of force would assist in delivering peace and prosperity to the region. “President Trump and I frequently say, peace through strength. Strength first, then peace,” he said.
Coordinated Attacks on Iranian Nuclear Facilities
The US launched airstrikes at Iran’s Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. These were the same targets struck previously by Israel, which has been waging a war against Iran since June 13. Trump announced the US strikes on his social media site, reporting that American warplanes had entered the fray after days of debate.
Under PM Netanyahu, the action was said to indicate close military cooperation between the two partners.
Israel-Iran Conflict Escalates
The relationship between Iran and Israel has become more precarious. Since June 13, the two nations have engaged in several rounds of bombing each other. Israel asserts that Iran is close to becoming a nuclear weapons state. Tehran maintains that it has no plans to acquire nuclear weapons.
With both the US and Israel now working in tandem to target Iran’s nuclear program, diplomatic efforts are in danger of collapse. Netanyahu’s statement indicates that Israel may now consider the mission accomplished. But whether Iran believes so too—or that the story has just begun—is uncertain.
