Iran’s Foreign Ministry declared that further nuclear talks with the United States hold no meaning following Israel’s recent airstrikes on Iranian territory on June 14. Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported the statement amid rising tensions in the region.
Iran Blames US for Israeli Attack
Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said the US cannot claim to be interested in diplomacy while enabling Israeli aggression.
“The other side (the US) acted in a way that makes dialogue meaningless. You cannot claim to negotiate and at the same time divide work by allowing the Zionist regime (Israel) to target Iran’s territory,” Baghaei said, as quoted by MNA.
He further alleged that the US supported the Israeli airstrikes, stating the attack would not have occurred without Washington’s approval. According to Baghaei, the Israeli regime “succeeded in influencing” the diplomatic process.
Iran’s Accusation: US Complicit in Aggression
Previously, Iran had already accused the United States of being complicit in Israeli military operations. Now, after the latest assault, Tehran sees no point in engaging in nuclear negotiations.
Future Talks Uncertain
The sixth round of US-Iran nuclear discussions was scheduled for Sunday in Muscat. However, following the Israeli attacks, it remains uncertain whether the meeting will take place.
Trump Responds with Warning
Quoting Reuters, MNA mentioned that former US President Donald Trump said his team had prior knowledge of the Israeli strikes. Still, he expressed hope for a possible agreement.
Soon after the first Israeli strike, Trump issued a warning to Iran through Truth Social. He said: “I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to ‘just do it,’ but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn’t get it done.”
He added that the US produces “the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR,” and emphasized Israel’s powerful arsenal. Trump continued: “They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse! There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter… come to an end. Iran must make a deal before there is nothing left… JUST DO IT, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”
Israel Justifies Strike as Pre-emptive
On Friday, Israel launched airstrikes against what it described as Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) posted on X, “Iran is closer than ever to obtaining a nuclear weapon… The State of Israel has no choice but to fulfil the obligation to act in defence of its citizens.” CNN later reported that the strikes killed several senior Iranian officials, including top military leaders and nuclear scientists.
Iran Retaliates with Missile Strikes
In retaliation, Iran reportedly launched loitering munitions and missiles at Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, Israel continued its counteroffensive, deepening the crisis.
