The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday that Indian students living in Tehran have been moved to safer areas. The decision comes amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, which has entered its fifth day.

In a press statement, the MEA explained that the Indian Embassy in Iran arranged the relocation to protect the students from rising security threats. The ministry added that other Indian nationals living in Tehran, who can leave on their own, have been strongly advised to do so. “Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy. Other residents who are self-sufficient in terms of transport have also been advised to move out of the city in view of the developing situation,” the statement read.

Embassy Supports Evacuation via Borders

The Indian government also helped some citizens leave Iran by crossing land borders. The Embassy assured that it remains in constant contact with the Indian community in Iran and will continue to offer assistance. “The Embassy remains continuously in touch with the community with a view to extending all feasible assistance. Further advisories may be issued given the fluid situation,” the MEA said.

Death Toll Rises Amid Intense Bombing

Conflict Background: Operation Rising Lion

The current escalation began when Israel launched a major airstrike on Iran’s nuclear and military sites. This military campaign has been named “Operation Rising Lion.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained in a video message that the operation aimed to counter Iran’s growing threat to Israel’s safety. “Israel launched Operation Rising Lion, a targeted military operation to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel’s very survival,” Netanyahu said, adding the operation would continue “for as many days as it takes to remove this threat.”

In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched its own large-scale drone and missile strikes. These attacks reportedly targeted Israeli fighter jet fuel supplies and key energy infrastructure.
