Alia Bhatt recently spoke about her mental health issues, which revealed that she was diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety. Alia, in an interview with Jay Shetty on his podcast, mentioned that she had been feeling physical responses during social events, such as her body becoming hot, and was having issues with concentration and memory. “I was also struggling to concentrate on some things. My concentration was going in and out,” she explained. This prompted her to see a professional, and following a three-day test, she was diagnosed with the two conditions.
Alia said that she had been considering herself as an ‘amazing multi-tasker’ previously, but the incessant switching of things had become overwhelming.”I was having a very tough time. My body was heating up at parties and I was responding physically to it,” she said. She conceded that her multitasking skill had led to forgetting simple things, which made her get tested. The diagnosis relieved her, as she now had a definitive reason for her challenges: “It gave me information so whenever there’s a lack of information is when I get most thrown off.”
Since becoming a mother to her daughter, Raha, Alia needed clarity even more. “The necessity of getting things in order after being a mum because I was like I don’t want to forget anything about my daughter,” she explained. Alia did not take medication despite her diagnosis and has been actively doing things to control her condition. “I am not taking any medication or anything although I can but I didn’t and I am just actively working on it to try and get through it. And I think I cope fairly well,” she added.
Alia stressed that having the diagnosis was a relief in itself for her, as it explained the cause of her difficulty. “The moment you do come up with a solution to it, you know that it was not merely something I was doing just for myself. It is reassuring that you did get a feeling that something was preventing you from doing your day in a certain manner. Now there is a solution for it,” she added.
