Sunjay Kapur, a famous polo player and ex-husband of Bollywood starlet Karisma Kapoor, died in the UK at the age of 53. His death came as a shock to everyone because it was caused by a bee flying into his mouth while he was playing polo and stinging him, which led to a heart attack that ended his life. Sunjay could not be rescued despite immediate medical treatment.
Who Was Sunjay Kapur?
Sunjay was the son of the late Surinder Kapur, founder of Sona Group, a prominent automobile parts firm in India, and Rani Kapur. Entering the family business in 2003, Sunjay had a crucial role to play in taking it global. He was also the chairman of Sona Comstar, a firm that deals in the manufacturing of electric vehicle components.
Sunjay graduated from The Doon School, Dehradun, and John Connon School, Mumbai. He then received a BBA in Corporate Strategy and HR from London.
Love of Polo and Personal Life
Polo was Sunjay‘s first love, driven by his passion for horses. He played the game actively and owned the Aureus polo team as its patron. His final match was against Sujan, which is run by hotelier Jaisal Singh.
Sunjay’s private life gained public attention because of his three marriages. He initially married fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, but they divorced in 2000. In 2003, he married Karisma Kapoor, and they had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, before divorcing in 2016. Although they were no longer together, they still co-parented their kids.
Sunjay later married Priya Sachdev, a model-turned-entrepreneur, in the later years. They welcomed a son, Azarius, in 2018. Priya already had a daughter named Safira Chatwal from her earlier marriage.
