Sonam Raghuvanshi, a newlywed from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is at the center of a shocking murder investigation after her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found dead during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. The couple had married on May 11 and left for their honeymoon on May 20.

By May 22, they had reached Mawlakhiat village on a rented scooter, but just two days later, the scooter was discovered abandoned between Shillong and Sohra, prompting a wide-scale search.

Sonam Had Been Missing Since Her Husband’s Murder

According to Meghalaya Police, Sonam Raghuvanshi is accused of conspiring with hired killers to murder her husband. Three men have been arrested in the case. “The woman who surrendered was identified as Sonam,” Meghalaya DGP confirmed. Raja’s body was recovered soon after.

Sonam had been missing since the incident. Authorities later discovered her near a dhaba in Nandganj, Uttar Pradesh, approximately 40 km from Varanasi. A senior Uttar Pradesh Police officer stated that she was located on the Varanasi-Ghazipur road. “When she came to the dhaba, she was looking upset,” said the owner, who added that she had borrowed his phone to call her family. Police were then alerted and arrived at the scene.

Where Is Sonam Raghuvanshi?

Sonam is now in the care of the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Ghazipur. She was reportedly in a disoriented and distressed state. Her family, especially her father Devi Singh, has publicly voiced suspicion over the handling of the case by Meghalaya Police.

“Meghalaya CM is lying regarding this case. A CBI inquiry should be done on him as well,” Singh told reporters. He further alleged, “I am 100% sure that Meghalaya Police is involved in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.”

He also said that his daughter reached the dhaba alone and had not been in communication with the police. “Meghalaya Police is trying to trap Sonam,” he insisted, adding that he has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to hand over the case to the CBI.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by a Superintendent of Police and supported by four DSPs, has been formed to probe the case further.
