As the investigation into the horrific Meghalaya honeymoon murder case gains momentum, new developments continue to emerge. The sleuths have now uncovered a new name that might shift the direction of the probe — Jitendra Raghuvanshi. His suspected monetary connection to the crime has added more focus on the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.
The Meghalaya Police have taken five people into custody in connection with Raja’s murder. Those arrested include his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, and three associates—Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi. The police took all of them to Meghalaya and placed them under eight-day custody on Wednesday.
Who Is Jitendra Raghuvanshi?
Sonam is said to have utilized a UPI account owned by Jitendra Raghuvanshi to make payments to the hitmen on May 23, reports said. The news shocked everyone and raised suspicion of a possible hawala money trail connected with the killing.
Sonam’s brother, Govind, told the media that Jitendra is his maternal uncle and a junior staff member in the family business. “Sonam’s UPI account was in the name of Jitendra,” he said. But he did not explain why it was not in Sonam’s name.
Govind rejected charges of hawala transactions, saying, “We have nothing to do with hawala. Baseless stories are being fabricated. The person Jitendra Raghuvanshi, whose name is surfacing, is my maternal cousin as well as a junior staff member in our family business, who takes care of loading and unloading in the godown.”
He further stated that the money kept in Jitendra’s name is their business money, which they spend on a day-to-day basis. Even with these explanations, the entry of Jitendra’s name has altered the course of the investigation.
Govind Backs Victim’s Family, Severs Relations with Sonam
In a gesture of rare solidarity, Govind visited the mourning family of Raja Raghuvanshi in Indore. He offered his condolences to them. He also apologized for his sister’s supposed role and assured the victim’s family of his support.
“I spoke to Sonam for two minutes in Ghazipur and grilled her. Her responses were sufficient to convince me she had committed the offense,” Govind claimed. He confirmed that their family has cut all relations with Sonam and promised to assist Raja’s family in attaining justice.
