In a bizarre and controversial incident from Uttar Pradesh(UP)’s Rampur, a man named Shakeel allegedly fell in love with his minor son’s bride-to-be and ended up marrying her himself. According to his wife, Shabana, who has six children with him, Shakeel arranged his 15-year-old son’s marriage, but later began secretly talking to the woman over the phone.

Family Alleges Abuse

“He used to video call her the whole day. At first, no one believed me. Then my son and I collected evidence against them,” Shabana told the media. She also claimed to have caught Shakeel with the girl on two separate occasions, which confirmed her long-standing suspicion of an affair.

When confronted, Shakeel allegedly turned violent, beating up Shabana and his son for objecting to the relationship. The teenage son, after discovering the affair, refused to go ahead with the wedding.

The son also claimed that his grandparents knew about the affair and supported Shakeel in marrying the woman. Eventually, Shakeel left the house with Rs 2 lakh in cash and 17 grams of gold and married the girl himself, according to the family.

In a similar case earlier this year, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh reportedly eloped with her daughter’s groom. Shivani said her mother Anita ran away with Rahul ten days before their wedding.

“I was supposed to marry Rahul on April 16, and my mother eloped with him on April 6. Rahul and my mother used to talk on the phone a lot over the past three to four months,” Shivani told reporters.

Her father, Jitendra Kumar, who works in Bengaluru, said he had heard rumors about Anita’s long phone calls with Rahul but chose not to interfere, hoping the wedding would take place without issues. Anita allegedly took over Rs 3.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh before running away.

These back-to-back incidents in Uttar Pradesh have shocked local communities and raised serious concerns about trust and family betrayal.
