RSS Opens Rs 150-Crore Headquarters in Delhi – What is Inside?

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has inaugurated its gargantuan new headquarters in Jhandewalan locality, Delhi. Covering 4 acres and consisting of three imposing skyscrapers, each of 12 stories, the complex is a symbol of the untrammeled power of the Sangh in the capital.

With 300 rooms, safe by central security forces, this new office is not merely a building—it’s a fortress where the RSS will plan and implement its ideological and political objectives for the future.

Symbol of RSS’s Power and Reach

Conceived with a substantial investment of Rs 150 crore, the building was planned by a Gujarat-based architect and financed by about 75,000 RSS volunteers and functionaries. The RSS’s run-down Udasin Ashram office, which had a shoddy structure and crowded areas, has been replaced with this new edifice.

The Jhandewalan headquarters is a key location designed to house the organization’s central office, publications, and RSS affiliates. This change reflects Sangh’s increasing influence on national dialogue.

Multifunctional Complex Meant for Power

This large complex is meant to provide space for the diverse functions of the RSS. It has two giant auditoriums—seating 473 and 123 individuals, respectively—leaving enough space for ideological debates and activities. A larger hall has space for up to 600 individuals for bigger events.

At the center of the building lies a grand, carefully curated library with books from different ideologies, such as Hindu, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, and Sikh philosophy. The library demonstrates RSS’s resolve to widen its interaction with diverse intellectual thought.

Besides the library and halls, the complex also has residential quarters for functionaries, a large lawn for morning shakhas (RSS meetings), and a well-facilitated bhojanalaya with the capacity to feed more than 100 individuals. Several halls facilitate the daily activities of the RSS and serve as areas for deliberations.

RSS’s Deep Connection to Its History

The site where this office is located has a rich historical background. In fact, it was back in 1939 that the RSS first opened its local office at this location. Later, by 1962, a second floor was constructed, marking a significant expansion. The foundation stone of this new building was laid nearly half a century later, and after working on it for nine years, the majestic complex came into being.

The edifice is a testament to the organization’s profound historical roots in India, coupled with its aggressive plans for the future.

Self-Sufficiency and Sustainability

This high-tech headquarters also illustrates the RSS’s self-reliance, with a small health center and clinics on-site to assist with the well-being of its staff and functionaries. These features further the organization’s capacity to operate independently and to sustain an operation.

The new headquarters of RSS in Jhandewalan is not just a structure; it is also proof of the organization’s rise in India’s intellectual and political spheres. With its varied resources and contemporary style, this building is meant to be a significant center for the Sangh’s activities and future planning.
