A minimum of 204 were killed when an Air India plane with 242 passengers crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon. Roshni Rajendra Songhare, a cabin crew member and Instagram travel influencer, was among the dead.
Influencer, Air India Crew Roshni Songhare Among Crash Victims
All the 12 members of the cabin crew, including Songhare, died in the disastrous crash. Ravindra Chavan, an MLA from Maharashtra, confirmed Songhare’s death.
“We are profoundly saddened by the tragic demise of Ms. Roshni Songhare from Dombivli in the devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad. As a dedicated flight crew member, her untimely loss is a heart-wrenching tragedy. May her soul attain eternal peace,” stated the Maharashtra MLA on X.
Songhare, with more than 54k followers on Instagram, is a travel blogger. She is also a flight attendant for Air India.
Crash Occurred Moments After Takeoff
The plane, which was headed to London and had 242 people on board, including 12 cabin crew, crashed near Ahmedabad airport. Although the reason behind the crash is not yet established, video from the accident indicates the plane lifting off and then moving quite quickly back down before crashing.
Roshni Songhare, Flight Crew and Other Victims Identified
The plane was piloted by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal with First Officer Clive Kunder. Shradha Dhavan and Aparna Mahadik were the two senior flight attendants on the aircraft.
The rest of the flight attendants have been named as Saineeta Chakravarti, Nganthoi Kongbrailatpam Sharma, Deepak Pathak, Maithili Patil, Irfan Shaikh, Lamnunthem Singson, Roshni Songhare Rajendra, and Manisha Thapa.
Plane Crashed Into Student Hostel
Ahmedabad police commissioner GS Malik informed Reuters that 204 bodies have been recovered in total. The Air India plane crashed just minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Gujarat.
The plane departed from airport runway 23 and crashed into a hostel of medical students in Meghani Nagar. According to reports, at least five medical students lost their lives in the crash.
Although the confirmed number of deaths is still to be announced, one of the passengers on seat 11A of the plane has survived the crash. The 40-year-old British citizen was spotted leaving the crash site.
