Punjab Police withdrawn from Arvind Kejriwal’s security in Delhi on election commission’s Orders
The Punjab Police personnel deployed for the security of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi have been withdrawn following instructions from the Election Commission. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav confirmed the development, stating that the decision was taken in compliance with the poll panel’s guidelines. He further added that Punjab regularly receives reports about potential threats to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal. “We share such inputs with security agencies periodically. Moving forward, this information will now be shared with the Delhi Police,” said Yadav.
The decision comes amid recent concerns raised by BJP leader Parvesh Verma over the presence of Punjab-registered vehicles in Delhi. Verma questioned the identity and activities of individuals using these vehicles and alleged that their presence could pose a threat to security, especially with Republic Day celebrations approaching. Verma’s remarks sparked a strong response from the Aam Aadmi Party, which labeled the allegations as an insult to Punjabis.
Earlier, the Delhi Police had written to the Punjab Police, seeking details of VIPs from Punjab currently present in the capital and their security arrangements. The Delhi Police stated that such information was crucial to ensuring proper security during the ongoing election period.
