In a tragic incident, around nine workers have gone missing after a cloudburst struck an under-construction hotel site in Uttarkashi district, located in the northern Himalayan state of Uttarakhand.

According to reports, the cloudburst occurred around 2 a.m. near the Paligad-Silai Band area in Barkot Tehsil. The sudden burst of rain caused severe damage to the construction site, trapping workers under the debris.

Rescue Operation Underway

Soon after the incident, a rescue operation began to search for the missing workers. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were sent to the scene. Local police officers also joined the rescue effort.

Officials are working around the clock to find the missing workers. However, bad weather and difficult terrain are making the operation challenging.

Heavy Rainfall Wreaks Havoc in Uttarakhand

The cloudburst is part of a larger weather pattern affecting the region. Uttarakhand has been receiving heavy rainfall over the past week. This has led to road closures, landslides, and accidents, especially in hilly and landslide-prone areas.

On Saturday (June 28), authorities had to restrict movement on the Sonprayag-Munkatiya road in the Rudraprayag district due to constant rain. This route is especially important as it is used by pilgrims traveling to Kedarnath, one of India’s most visited sacred sites.
