DRI Arrests Woman with Drugs Hidden in Juice and Oat Packs

“Acting on specific intelligence regarding a Nigerian female suspected to be carrying narcotic substances from Delhi to Mumbai by bus, officers of DRI Mumbai mounted surveillance late at night and trailed her for approximately 50 km. The suspect was then intercepted along with her baggage,” the DRI said in a statement.

After stopping the suspect, officials discovered a sophisticated method of concealment. She had packed 2.56 kilograms of crystalline methamphetamine and 584 grams of ecstasy (MDMA) tablets inside everyday food items like oat packets and juice tetra packs.

Follow-Up Arrest Deepens Case Investigation

To confirm the nature of the substances, the DRI used a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Field Test Kit, which indicated the presence of amphetamine-type stimulants.

“The contraband, valued at approximately Rs 5 crore in the international illicit market, has been seized. The Nigerian national has been arrested under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is in progress,” the agency confirmed.
DRI officers also carried out a follow-up operation and arrested the intended recipient of the drugs.
This has helped officials uncover more details about the smuggling network.

Authorities said the successful interception highlights the vigilance of DRI officers and their efforts in breaking international drug supply chains. “The operation highlights the vigilance and proactive enforcement by DRI officers in disrupting transnational narcotics trafficking networks,” the statement added.

Authorities are investigating broader drug trafficking connections and suspect involvement of international networks. The authorities are now also catching up to other creative ways of smuggling drugs across state borders.
