A newly emerged video records the dramatic moment when Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the catastrophic Air India crash in Ahmedabad, emerges from the debris amid chaos and confusion. The 40-year-old Indian-British citizen broke the odds as the sole passenger to survive a crash that claimed the lives of 241 others.

The footage, captured soon after the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel building of a medical college, depicts thick black fumes billowing in the background as people run away from the spot. Amid the commotion, Ramesh emerges, making his way from the site of the crash in Meghani Nagar. He keeps looking over his shoulder several times while walking, conscious and bloodied.

Seconds After Takeoff of Air India, Disaster Struck

The Air India plane, which was flying to London Gatwick, was only 33 seconds into the flight when it crashed on Thursday afternoon. Ramesh was in India to see relatives and had been flying with his elder brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45, who was in a separate row.

“Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a terrific sound, and then the plane crashed. Everything happened so rapidly,” Ramesh explained to Hindustan Times.

Miraculous Escape Amid the Wreckage

He continued, “When I stood up, there were bodies everywhere around me. I was frightened. I got up and ran. There were parts of the plane everywhere around me. Someone took me in their arms and put me in an ambulance, and took me to the hospital.

Ramesh, a resident of London, along with his wife and child, incurred chest, eye, and foot injuries. He is being treated at Asarwa Civil Hospital. The authorities have still to confirm the whereabouts of his brother, Ajay.

Earlier video footage had captured a man in a shirt drenched with blood leaving the site of the crash, now identified as Ramesh. His survival has left many shocked and has raised hope amid tragedy. Officials continue to scavenge evidence and bodies from the crash site as investigations unfold.
