Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin chaired a meeting with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MPs on Sunday to discuss key issues such as delimitation and the National Education Policy (NEP). The party resolved to unite with other affected states to oppose measures that penalize states for successful population control.

DMK’s Stand on Delimitation and Opposition Unity

During the meeting, DMK MPs reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary representation and collaborating with the opposition’s INDIA bloc and other democratic forces to uphold Tamil Nadu’s rights in the delimitation process. Sharing the resolution on X, Stalin wrote,

“At today’s DMK MPs meeting, we resolved to: Stand united in safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary representation. Bring together parties from affected states to resist attempts that penalise population control. Work with INDIA bloc & democratic forces to uphold our rights in delimitation.”

Additionally, the DMK MPs expressed strong opposition to the imposition of Hindi and the National Education Policy (NEP). They also emphasized the need for Tamil Nadu to receive its fair share of central funds, Stalin added.

Concerns Over Delimitation and Its Impact on Tamil Nadu

The delimitation exercise, initially set for 2026, will determine the number of parliamentary seats each state gets based on population size. Stalin has voiced concerns that the process could reduce the political influence of Tamil Nadu and other states that have effectively controlled their population.

Earlier this week, Stalin had written to the chief ministers of seven states, arguing that delimitation is an attack on federalism and unfairly punishes states that have prioritized population control and good governance.

Amit Shah’s Assurances on Delimitation

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had previously addressed concerns from southern states, assuring that they would receive a fair share of seats during the delimitation process. He also stated that if the number of Lok Sabha seats increases, southern states would get an equal share.

DMK to Raise Delimitation Issue in Parliament

The DMK MPs passed a resolution to bring up the delimitation issue in Parliament during the Budget Session, which is set to resume on March 10, according to ANI. Another resolution praised CM Stalin for actively addressing the delimitation concerns.

A statement from the party emphasized, “DMK MPs will raise their voice in Parliament supporting the efforts of Chief Minister MK Stalin to safeguard Tamil Nadu’s Lok Sabha constituencies.”
