A powerful blast outside the residence of BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Punjab’s Jalandhar city jolted the area early Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 1 AM, prompting immediate police and forensic intervention. Fortunately, Kalia escaped unhurt.

“There was a blast at around 1 am…I was sleeping, and I thought that it was the sound of thunder…Later I was informed that a blast had taken place…after this, I sent my gunman to the police station…CCTV is being investigated; forensic experts are also present here,” Kalia said while addressing the media.

Police officers, including Jalandhar Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. “Around 1 am, we got information of blast here. After which we reached the spot and started the investigation. The forensic team is investigating whether it is a grenade attack or something else,” she noted.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Singh confirmed that a forensic report is being prepared to determine the nature of the explosion and identify those responsible.

This incident adds to a worrying trend of similar attacks in Punjab. Over the past few months, Punjab has witnessed at least ten explosions, many targeting police stations or public figures. In one such case, four people were arrested last month for allegedly hurling a grenade at the house of a YouTuber in Jalandhar. In another, explosives were thrown at a temple in Amritsar, damaging property but causing no injuries.

With tensions escalating, authorities have increased surveillance and are thoroughly scanning CCTV footage and forensic evidence to trace the culprits behind the latest attack on Manoranjan Kalia’s residence.
