Ukraine will bring a high-level delegation to Washington next week to start talks on a possible deal that would open the door to United States access to Ukraine’s rich mineral deposits, Economy Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko said in a visit to northern Ukraine on Saturday.
US retains intent for joint investment
Svyrydenko pointed out that the negotiations have gone on for some months and the draft agreement proposed displays ongoing US interest in establishing a long-term partnership. “The new US draft agreement indicates that there is still an intention to establish a fund or to co-invest,” she stated.
Delegation comprises leading Ukrainian ministries
The mission will be headed by officials drawn from the Ministries of Finance, Economy, Foreign Affairs, and Justice. These officials will lead negotiations to establish a mineral resource pact, a move that would increase economic cooperation between Ukraine and the US.
Negotiations probe US-Ukraine ties
The envisaged mineral resource agreement has been an important test for Ukraine-US relations, straining the viability of cooperation between the two nations under larger geopolitical strain. The intended agreement will presumably entail strategic investment and joint access to essential resources crucial for sectors like defense, energy, and technology.
