Singer Jonita Gandhi recently shared a deeply personal experience of online sexual harassment. She revealed that someone cyberflashed her on Instagram.

In a recent interview, she also spoke about facing racism and body image struggles while growing up as an Indian girl in Canada. She continues to struggle with objectification and trolling online, but stays resilient through it all.

“It’s Disgusting, It’s Harassment”: Jonita Gandhi on Cyberflashing

“Some things are kind of traumatic,” she said. “On Instagram, you can check your mentions, and I’d see that I’d been added to someone’s Close Friends stories. Then I’m seeing it’s a d**k pic. It has a watermark with their thing and my photo in the background. It’s disgusting. It’s harassment. But I keep ignoring such things.”

Cyberflashing, the act of sending unsolicited explicit images digitally, has become alarmingly common, especially for women in the public eye.

Jonita’s experience highlights how tech has opened doors to new, more targeted forms of harassment. What made it worse was the deliberate nature, her photo in the background.

Sadly, she has faced disturbing incidents like this before. She said, “Being a minority, you feel the pressure to fit in. I had insecurities about my looks and body. There were moments where I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin.”

Disturbing Online Experience And Racism, Body Image Issues

The singer, who has gained recognition for her playback singing in Bollywood, continues to receive unwanted attention on social media. But she emphasized that staying focused on her career helps her rise above it. “I try not to let this kind of negativity get to me. My work and passion are more important,” she added.

Online abuse, especially toward women, is far from uncommon.

Jonita Gandhi suffers through the constant flood of abuse, body-shaming, and explicit content, which makes online harassment even harder to escape. Her story is a powerful reminder of why we urgently need safer, more respectful digital spaces for women.
