An IndiGo plane en route to Leh from Delhi was compelled to turn back to the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday after a technical glitch rendered it unsafe to land at the high-altitude destination.

The Airbus A320, flight 6E 2006, had been airborne for more than two hours when it turned back, according to data from flight tracking website Flightradar24.com. The company confirmed that the plane is currently undergoing required maintenance work before it can go back to normal operations.

In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson stated, “IndiGo flight 6E 2006 from Delhi to Leh on 19 June 2025, returned to its point of departure because of a technical problem which resulted in operational limitations to land at Leh. According to procedure, the pilot flew back to Delhi.”

In order to cause minimum inconvenience, IndiGo has pressed an alternate aircraft to transport the passengers to Leh without any delay.

This is the latest in a series of recent technical problems experienced by airlines. In another case on Thursday, a SpiceJet flight from Tirupati to Hyderabad returned to its point of departure soon after takeoff.

Flight SG 2696, which took off at 6:19 am and was expected to arrive in Tirupati by 7:40 am, turned back to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for a technical snag.

Only the day before, another IndiGo flight, one from Delhi to Raipur was in the news after passengers were left waiting on board for about 40 minutes after a landing. The door of the aircraft didn’t open on schedule because of what the airline called a small technical glitch.

That flight is said to have had former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Raipur Mayor Meenal Choubey on board.
