An Indian student at the University of Calgary, Tanya Tyagi, has died under unclear circumstances. The Consulate General of India in Vancouver announced the news on Thursday. Tanya had traveled to Canada to pursue higher education.
Consulate Offers Support to Family
The Consulate expressed deep sorrow and promised full assistance to Tanya’s family. In a post on X, they said, “We are saddened by the sudden demise of Ms. Tanya Tyagi, an Indian student at University of Calgary.” They added, “The Consulate is in touch with the authorities and will provide all required assistance to the bereaved family. Our heartfelt condolences & prayers are with her family & friends of the deceased.”
Cause of Death Remains Unknown
Canadian authorities have not yet released an official statement. Therefore, the exact cause of Tanya’s death remains unknown. However, an unverified post on X claimed she died of a heart attack. The post tagged India’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and stated: “Tanya Tyagi… died on June 17, 2025, due to a heart attack. The student’s family has appealed to PM Modi for help in bringing her body back.”
