India Pushes UN to Label TRF as Terror Group Over LeT Links

India has taken a firm step to expose the terror group The Resistance Front (TRF) by holding consultations with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Sanctions Committee. The Indian delegation presented strong evidence connecting TRF to the banned Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

India Shares Strong Proof with UNSC

During the meeting, Indian officials handed over digital evidence, financial records, and physical proof showing how TRF is linked to LeT. According to sources, this evidence highlights how closely the two groups work together.

The discussion focused on understanding how these terror outfits function and how their operations are connected. Indian representatives explained that TRF is not an independent group but simply a front for LeT’s activities.

TRF Claimed Deadly Attack

Importantly, TRF initially claimed responsibility for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The brutal attack killed 26 people, most of whom were Hindus. However, a few days later, TRF denied involvement, saying their earlier statement resulted from a cyberattack by Indian intelligence.

Indian agencies rejected this excuse. They stated that TRF’s attempt to backtrack was a cover-up and part of its ongoing strategy to confuse international observers.

India Wants TRF Designated as Terror Group

India is now asking the UNSC to officially label TRF as a terrorist organisation under the 1267 sanctions regime. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed this in a public statement.

He said, “TRF is one organisation which is a front of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and you would understand that we have been pursuing listing of TRF in the United Nations by the United Nations Security Council by the UNCC 1267 sanctions committee.”

India Engaged with UN Since 2023

Jaiswal also shared that India has been engaging with the UN over this issue since 2023. He added, “Over the last two years or so, since 2023-24 we have been sharing information with the United Nations Security Council, the monitoring team of the sanctions committee as to why the terrorist TRF which is the front for Lashkar-e-Taiba should be listed as a terrorist entity.”

India’s Earlier Reports Also Mentioned TRF

India has submitted detailed reports on TRF in May and November 2024 as part of its regular inputs to the 1267 Committee. These reports revealed that TRF acts as a cover for global terror groups like LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The documents also described the TRF’s involvement in killings, illegal arms supply, and terrorist recruitment in the region.
